Guys guys guys, my PS3 just bit the dust after almost 5 years of loyal service. YLOD problem, can't get to the XMB at all. Is this likely a HD or BRD problem? Doesn't sound like the thermal paste issue because it turns itself off immediately...

Where's the cheapest place in the UK to buy a new slim? Amazon seem the cheapest by far at £160.

I picked out a Vita game Army Corps of Hell + Sega Mega Drive Collection (PS3)

Are they reliable to ship to NYC?

They're only charging me 0.99£ for shipping which is fucking crazy, if you think about it

Will I get my items? or should I stay away

You'll be playing the Zavvi lottery. You might get it on time, it might be weeks late, it might never turn up :/ My advice would be only use them as a last resort.

If you don't mind waiting, you should expect your games to arrive. Sometimes they ship your stuff very quickly, other times it can take a few weeks. (I've bough tons of games from zavvi and usually the wait time has been 5-15 days to get my orderes deliver to my house.)

Sony will repair it for half that.

Why do people keep avoiding this as a solution? =/

I'm in NYC, so should I risk it, I mean they are only charging me 0.99£ for shipping, which really threw me for a fucking loop

It's the Buy 2 games for 25£

only by a bit. i would consider buying new over having a console repaired cause of the many factors involved. if they botch the repair i'd be without for weeks, so why go through the stress when i can spend 30.00 pounds more and buy a brand new ps3 with a new 1 year warranty.

I know some people have had some problems with zavvi, so I can only tell you how my experience has been with them. I've placed (exactly) 30 orders with them and I got angry once. I bought a game and the case was broken. I mailed them about it and they told me to return it and they'd send me a new copy. I didn't bother doing it, but it was good to know that they offered to do it. When I buy from them, it usually takes 5-15 days to get here (Sweden), so I guess you would have to wait a bit longer. If you don't mind waiting for the games, then buy from them. If you want the games quickly, look for another place.

Fair enough, didn't really realise it was so much. Last time I had a PlayStation repaired it was something like £85!

HUKD says Zavvi is doing Vitas for £175 if you use the code "CONSOLE." Still waiting for the magic £17.99 on that one.
 
So now that I've found some Zavvi codes, Kid Icarus goes back to 29.95. Arse! Is it 24.95 anywhere still?

Rhythm Thief is also 29.95 everywhere again. Come on, it hasn't even entered the UK Top 40. Drop, bitch!!!
 
Zavvi/TheHut are awesome. I always order from them and I live in Seattle, WA. The only issue I had is an order that I recently placed - Demon's Souls (I'd like to keep playing online until after May 31st). TheHut freakin' said it'll ship within two days time, then threw days later they tell me they're still trying to communicate with the publisher or something like that. I hope they get it shipped out.

Anyway, Zavvi/TH always have good deals but I'd never purchase a game where it would take a month to get dispatched. Ships within 48 hours or bust.

Btw, what are some other reliable UK sites with good deals that ship to the US of A?

Well it's a white fatty that I got from Hong Kong (I live in UK), so not sure they would accept it. Even if they did, they'd be giving me a refubbed one right? Aren't the chances of it dying higher than a brand new one?

EDIT: Just read that last year somebody paid £130 for Sony to fix it, might have dropped in price now? Only +£30 for a new 160 GB (mine is 40 GB)...

They did actually have it up for sale just around the time Game went under, because I switched at that point. I checked again a few days later and it wasn't up anymore though, so not sure if they are basing it on firm numbers. My preorder is still active, so hopefully they don't pull any crazy stunts on me at the 11th hour.

That was the other thing that was weird - I never even got the damn notification (the product page still says I am signed up to get a text when it is available)...

I'm totally not actually getting the collector's edition, am I :-(
 
I would never rely on amazons notification system for collectors editions. They often don't turn up, or get delayed. Better of just checking the page every now and then.
 
So that arcade stick I received from The Hut today, you know, the one that had its box ripped and the seals removed?

It's covered in dust, is scratched and the LB doesn't work.

I fucking KNEW it was a return from the moment I took it out.

Because Sony charge you £130 and give you a refurb that is only covered for about 2 months. The number of people who have had them break down again soon after that is a LOT.
I had that option and it's not worth it.

Time and time again, people are getting burned, and yet there are still people lining up on this thread to say "I love the hut, I've never had a problem with them".

Everyone loses the Zavvi-Hut lottery eventually....

This is such a dumb thing to say. Order enough from anyone and they'll fuck up eventually. People aren't perfect, no one is, and you could make the same statement of any online store.

This grudge you've got against The Hut is getting kind of pathetic, man. Let it go.

Well I got my buddy a copy of Gears of War 3 for under €14 from them.
Sure it took over 2 weeks to arrive, but with such a deal, you won't hear me complain.

The only thing that will keep me from buying a lot more stuff from them is the rise in shipping costs as well as the terrific job amazon.co.uk is doing.
Been using the hut, zavvi, shop to, blahdvd and play for many years now and will continue to do so.

I've had more problems with Amazon than TheHut or Zavvi. Go figure...

The Hut/Zavvi have more complaints against them than any other store I've ever seen, anecdotally on various forums. I've had two horrible experiences with their customer service and I'm certainly not alone. Probably the worst CS in the business that I have experience with. Then of course there's the fact that you never know when your games will turn up. I always advise people not to shop there even if it's a bit cheaper than somewhere else.
 
I've spoken with MarkMan and am getting referred to Madcatz UK instead.

I guess if I send it to them there's less chance of The Hut sending this one out to some poor sap again.

They also account for about 80% of the deals in this thread, probably. More orders means more chances for things to go wrong and so more people to moan about them. I really doubt they're worse than most other retailers on an order to order basis, though obviously people like amazon are in another league.
 
I bought a WWE Brawlstick from Zavvi once. It didn't arrive after a month, so I messaged them and they kindly sent me another, which I received. A month after that, the original showed up! Since it would have costed them too much for me to send it back to UK from Australia, they decided to let me keep the extra. I have nothing bad to say about them :D

That's why I don't buy at Zavvi/The Hut anymore. It takes up to a month to get an order from Zavvi. If I buy the game at Amazon.co.uk two weeks later for the same price, I'll still get it earlier than an order from Zavvi.

That having said, I hope some will enjoy this 10% off code from The Hut: 2036-X698-NSQW
 
Trying to cancel my Batman Arkham City order from Zavvi. Has been "dispatched within a month since last week and now it says May 23rd.

Amazon.co.uk have also lowered their price on Batman to £19.99 now.
