New Super Mario Bros 2 announced for 3DS - August 2012

Still not sure what to do. I love Mario but I don't wanna support Nintendo reusing the same 8 worlds and the same enemies every game, with just new level design.
To be fair, the same thing can be said about almost all sequels, the theme may change a bit but for the most part it's the same thing again with slight variations, enough to keep the fans hooked but not scare them away. Halo, Killzone, Uncharted, Call of Duty, etc, it's not like your mind gets blown by how fresh everything feels once a new game is out. But the fans love it.

As for myself. Day 1!! :D

"Uh well we'll just stick a tanooki powerup in there and they won't notice a thing"

Yeah, like most people would anyways.

So it's reprehensible until Nintendo starts doing it, basically?

So...If NSMB was based on SMB, and NSMB2 looks very much like it's based on SMB3...does this mean that NSMB3, when it eventually arrives, will be based on SMW?

...exits, exits everywhere

I'm bored of the world themes, too. I think with something like Mario, which isn't tied down with ANY plot besides "Princess kidnapped by bad people", you can do whatever the hell you want and it'll still be a Mario game. Galaxy has Gusty Garden and Toy Time and Flipsvile and shit. You can do anything! /moneleux

But instead, we get some of the same themes from the last few 2d Marios. Desert, snow, fire, whatever. The level design may be great, but I wish they got more creative with the themes themselves. Even a Giant Land or something, don't see that very often in the 2d games.

We already knew about it (I mean: also before the launch of the console itself :p ) but I'm always happy about 2d mario platformers.
Now I hope two things:

1) level design inspired by the Wii episode
2) some sort of multiplayer modes/features/gameplay

Please have Super Mario 3 remixes! I was just running around in SMG2 earlier today lol.

It might be something similar to the way SMB land 2 worked as well. Macro land, Pumpkin Land, and so forth. We've seen a few standard areas but there is still a chance for strange stuff. Personally I want a Dino world (Reznor and that T-rex with wings need to make a comeback).

Really not sure how someone could see NSMB DS being better than Wii. Even the soundtrack for the Wii game is better (and that has nothing to do with the hardware, just all around better compositions/versions of existing themes).

Heres hoping for a boss theme to top the Koopa Kids battles on Wii.

I fear that this is the mario game that's going to make me feel like Nintendo is overusing the franchise and rushing the game to the market to help sell the 3ds. Of course this is just based on some low quality screenshots.

Isnt the 3DS selling pretty well right now?

Hope it's more like Wii than DS, but I'm on board either way. Glad to see the P meter, SMB3 is my definite favorite in the series so any element from that is welcomed.

But sequels are still supposed to introduce new content like new worlds (how about a metal world, goomba world, I dunno) and enemies. NSMB/W were such a long time coming that I loved everything unconditionally, but y'know. It's not supposed to be that way.

I would buy it so hard if it had some more new stuff. So hard.

NSMBWii will be three years old when this comes out. Rushed lol.

There's a nsmb for wii-u to be fully shown at E3 too

Its doing very well and has recovered nicely. For 2012 Iwata promised software that would grow the install base and attract the same kind of buyers that the ds did. NSMB2 is exactly that kind of title and I'm worried it will be too similar to NSMBDS. Floaty physics, boring visual style, boring music, boring level design, etc.

I hope Nintendo really plays up the "New" in New Super Mario Bros 2 and not the "2".

Reusing an engine to make a new game with entirely new levels, which is surely the entire point of a platformer anyway, is considered "reprehensible" by people?

Have you heard of a game called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3?

This.

Eh, I might end up buying it, but I'm not excited at all for it. The previous games were ok I guess, but nothing special. But come on Nintendo, Paper Mario was announced at E3 2010 and what have we heard about it since? 3D land has been announced and released, followed by NSMB2 now being announced and very likely being released before Paper Mario. Give us something!

The backgrounds are more dense, maybe cause of 3d.
I hope it retains the different particle effects from nsmbw and strangely it's more colorful probably cause of the mentioned density and what is that golden everything, like metal mario maybe?
Wonder if it's multiplayer too, looks like pwing can make this hard but there's the zoom out to help.

Old Nintendo would have released a new 2D Mario next year, moreso with all 3DS titles they already have announced/in the pipe.

Nintendo is more aggressive than ever. I wonder how Sony will react this summer, NSMB2 as early as august is not exactly what Vita needed.

The tech demo we saw at last e3 with nsmb and miis will be the Wii U game of Mario, it doesn't have a name yet, but I doubt that would be SMB4

But didn't Miyamoto say that they're working on Super Mario Bros 4. (indicating that it's sequel for the NES classic and therefore a 2D sidescroller)? I mean on how many 2D Mario games are Nintendo working on at the same time? And I agree that calling the New. Super Mario Bros Mii of whatever the Super Mario 4.

Only interested if there's local co-op (online would be a bonus). Unless of course there's some amazing new features that differentiate it from the last two games.

This will probably be the first 3D Mario with DLC content being delievered long after its release - cant wait for them to release some UBER hard level after its release.

Man, GAF is so picky. Shit's gonna be greeeeat. NSMBWii was fucking brilliant. Definitely looking forward to this. Surprised it's being released so soon, too. I didn't expect any sort of announcement before E3, at the very least.

It's like the game be what it say it am. I understand what I done seen before, so why people go complain am beyond me. Mario am Mario. What other can you want more or expect?

I looked at these two shots in my tied state and first thought the snow level had invisible enemies. Guess they are just yellow, but that would be a crazy idea for a level.

I don't recall them ever saying they were working on something officially referred to as Super Mario 4... That was a rumor speculated because of a domain registration for a domain created several years ago

Nintendo would cause mass confusion if they released games titled "New Super Mario Bros. 2" and "Super Mario Bros. 4" even remotely close to each other.

One will be a 2012 game, another will be 2013. Like NSMBWii and SMG2.

At least, possibly.

Well there was that Korean site's interview with Miyamoto where he confirmed Super Mario Bros. 4. Well at least if it's legit.
