Is anyone else looking forward to playing nintendo games with a controller again instead of that motion crap? Apart from better online thats the thing that makes me want one the most.

Don't push a phew of relief

Maybe some games will force you to waggle the padlet, built-in gyro & sensor bar, etc...

And agitating frenetically a white tv-remote is one thing
Doing it with a small cheeseboard is another :D

I don't think motion controls are crap, especially considering I've never even touched a WR+, but I am pretty relieved that this controller isn't really an expansion of that type of gaming. More practical and less subjective to personal tastes.

Did you say "cheeseboard?" I foresee a cheese-grating video game on WarioWare.. yum!
(bread and cheese will be the DEATH of me, I swear!)

good idea :D

i would really make an annoying & over-the-top superhero :p
Let me guess: lots of puns and self-referential jokes, right? :)

These seem to be the major games coming out (I didn’t include games that are launching months after the PS3/360 releases on Wii U):

May - Mario Tennis Open (3DS)
August - New Super Mario Bros. 2 (3DS)
Fall - Kirby 20th Anniversary Special Edition (Wii)
Fall - Animal Crossing Stick Out (3DS)
Q3/Q4 - Wii U Launch in North America, Japan and Europe (Wii U)

There are a lot of games with unknown release dates, though we can probably guess on some.

First Party:

??? - Paper Mario (3DS)
??? - Luigi's Mansion 2 (3DS)
??? - Fire Emblem: Awakening (3DS)
??? - Paper Mario (3DS)
??? - Super Smash Bros. 4 (3DS)
??? - Super Smash Bros 4 (Wii U)
??? - Pikmin 3 (Wii U)
??? - New Super Mario Bros. Mii (Wii U)

Third Party:

??? - Monster Hunter 4 (3DS)
??? - Lego City Stories (Published by Nintendo) (3DS)
??? - Lego City Stories (Published by Nintendo) (Wii U)
??? - Assassin's Creed III (Wii U)
??? – Killer Freaks (Wii U)
??? – Dragon Quest X (Wii U)
??? – Tekken (Wii U)

I looked at Nintendo’s first party studios, and a lot of them are working on mystery projects. I included the known projects, and projects that came out recently.

▪ EAD Comprehensive Group - ???
▪ EAD Group 1 – Mario Kart Wii U? The Wii U Sports/Fit shown on the E3 2011 trailer for Wii U?
▪ EAD Group 2 – Animal Crossing Stick Out
▪ EAD Group 3 – Skyward Sword, Wii U Zelda Tech Demo?
▪ EAD Group 4 – New Super Mario Bros. 2, Pikmin 3
▪ EAD Group 5 – ???
▪ EAD Tokyo – Super Mario 3D Land, ??? (they have two development studios)
▪ SPD Group 1 – ??? (Sakamoto is probably crying over the Other M bomba)
▪ SPD Group 2 – Oversees External Projects with partners and out of house teams
▪ SPD Group 3 – See above
▪ SPD Group 4 – Same as above
▪ SPD Group 5 – ???, (Maybe Brain Age 3 or some eShop title?)
▪ Nintendo NSD – ???
▪ Nintendo SDD – ???
▪ Nintendo Software Technology – They recently hired one of the co-creators of Sonic…
▪ Monolith Soft – ??? (They teased some project)
▪ Retro Studios – Hiring noteworthy staff recently
▪ Creatures Inc. – Mother 4 (lol)
▪ Brownie Brown – ???
▪ Intelligent Systems – Paper Mario 3DS
▪ Project Sora – Kid Icarus: Uprising, Super Smash Bros. 4
▪ Nd Cube –Mario Party 9
▪ HAL Laboratory – Kirby: Return to Dreamland, Super Smash Bros. 4 (?)

And this isn’t including the plethora of Nintendo’s partners (Grezzo, Good-Feel, Next Level Games, etc).

Some other notable things:
-Retro Studios hired a lot of staff that made more “mature” games (like an artist from Uncharted)
-Nintendo Software Technology hired one of the co-creators of Sonic
-Scott Moffit replaced Cammie Dunaway a year ago (I think we’ll see him at E3 this year)
-Nintendo recently purchased a company known for video services on portable devices (Gameboy Advance, iPhone), so we may finally see the movies that Iwata was hinting at E3 2010
-Nintendo Network is going to move toward an XBOX LIVE type service for Wii U (account-based system, etc.)
-eShop is supposed to launch as a website and as an app for other mobile devices as a means of purchasing games for your 3DS system

I can't wait until we see a Wii Remote smashed through a DRC smashed through a TV.

Spill the beans or just stfu I'd say.

lol, i feed on your abstract anger !

Let me guess: lots of bad puns & ideas threw here and there & teasing & ridiculous catch-phrases & french references

fixed :p

For Wario Ware, seriously, the Wii U has the potential to surpass the possibilities offered by the DS & the Wii for the originality & craziness of the mini-games. I bet it's actually one of the most fun project to work for on the system. Just imagine the 10 hours per day intensive gamedesigners brainstorming to find short & fun experiences using the different control scheme of the Wii U, the touch-screen, the motion, the buttons, etc.

Nice, informative post.
Damn, I didn't know Nintendo was making that many big moves. Once this bastion of content and online infrastructure is up, it'll force Microsoft and Sony to up their ante.

Damn, Nintendo's going 3rd party for real.

Am I alone in thinking putting the tablet on the ground (for golf or whatever) is a bad idea? "Here kids, put this piece of plastic and glass on the carpet, stand right next to it, and now swing your body around as fast as you can."

Oh noes! It was a typo I swear. I fixed it now. =)

I was talking about this hoax from several years back.
nintendo-on.jpg

God, people that make this shit are so uncreative. Why is it always a fucked up looking sphere?

Who would buy something like that and feel safe in their home?

▪ Nintendo SPD – ??? (Sakamoto is probably crying over the Other M bomba)
▪ Monolith Soft – ??? (They teased some project)

With regards to these two entries:

- There are multiple SPD studios. 1-5 just like EAD.

- Monolith appears to be working on multiple projects, the confirmed WiiU game and more than likely a 3DS game as well. Much like other parts of Nintendo they have been hiring extensively as well.

Yeah it's a weird idea for a lot of reasons, this & you have to make sure the floor isn't full of turtle ninja pineapple pizzas leftovers & dirty pikachu socks.

I don't know if it's smart for everyone, but I'm super excited to play Wii U Golf (Mario flavour?) in this way. Out of all the Wii Sports, golf had the most depth, with baseball coming close second.

Oh yeah, I remember reading that Nintendo went on a major hiring spree late last year.

Also, SPD Group 1 is the only one that "makes" games. The other 3 groups oversee out-of-house projects and SPD Group 5 typically works on smaller titles (such as DSiWare).

Monster Hunter is 3rd party.
Oops, sorry. I accidentally posted Pikmin 3 in third party and that in first party. I don't know why I switched it up. -_-

Something I found odd:

Nintendo 3DS update is due April 25th in NA
Nintendo's annual FY reporting is on April 26th in JPN

The update will most likely came late evening/night on the 25th, and that's when the reporting will occur in Japan.

Wouldn't be shocked if we got this update earlier than the 25th. Last firmware came out like 2 or 3 days before they said it would. But who knows anything is possible!

So where were you all during the Wii's massive press conference at E3 2006?

I was an 11 year old, so I think I posted on the Nintendo NSider Forums and read the news/updates on nintendo.com (never watched the press conference back then). I never even knew it was E3 or anything back then, so I probably read the site's features pretty late.

My first real E3 was E3 2007, and I read the forum posts live. I remember people on the Power ON board on NSider went crazy when Reggie said "My name is Reggie. And I am happy." I watched E3 2008 live, and watched E3 2009 after school (I read the curtain leak photo thread on GAF during that morning). I came home for lunch for E3 2010, and I skipped school for E3 2011.

Does anyone know the exact time of the investor's meeting.

Also, reminding everyone to try to avoid turning the thread about the loss into the graveyard the trolls want it to be.

So, Wii Remote through your foot through your DRC through your TV? Or does the window play a part as well?

SPD No. 3 is most likely working with Monster Games and supporting Retro on Wii U projects right now. Maybe w/ Next Level on Luigi's Mansion 2, but that is Miyamoto's baby and I got the impression a team from EAD might be assigned to that one. Maybe EAD Group 5?

Alright, big question to those who consider themselves to be such good in the technical/programming business.

Can you tell in the Zelda demo if anything is being pulled off that isn't possible on the PS3 and 360?

Some kind of lighting or shadowing, effects, perhaps it just runs so well for what it's doing, etc.

To me it looks like pretty much as close to CG as you can get up-to now, of course it's just one closed area, but still amazing none-the-less.

The bird demo probably doesn't feature much, but I will say (which I did at E3), that the shadows are unbelievably crisp and smooth, and that at least on 360, they really are ugly and pixelated. So happy that's a non-issue here, arguably one of the biggest eyesores for me on 360, I'm not certain if PS3 games are perfectly capable of these clean shadows.

The Tokyo studio is working on a Wii U game, and the Kyoto studio is working on a 3DS game, I believe.

Lol, I know. Someone recently posted a video about a mutli-touch resistive screen which completely made everything I've said about the technology null and void.

Yeah I've posted one of the videos as well. It would seem to be a good compromise, it's not like it's too new to have those concerns about cost, and seems to be software/firmware based if I remember correctly making it easier for special updates (if the controller can get them/designed to get them).

I was on there too. Great culture during that year, can't remember what Power-on was like.

Ha, I was surprised to see CrumpetTrumpet on GAF, I remember him from Nsiders.

Sophomore in college. I was freakin the frack out. That was such an amazing conference. Rode that hype all the way to launch day when I bought Zelda, Excite Truck, and DBZ:BT2.

I wish the DBZ games would have gotten better over time on the wii. BT2 was actually a pretty fun game, all in all. Much better than how that kinect garbage game looks anyhow. Damn namco bandai, those assholes have never done the franchise any justice.

So, Wii Remote through your foot through your DRC through your TV? Or does the window play a part as well?

Take those videos of kids throwing Wii remotes at their parent's flatscreens, and multiply them with sliced feet and screaming bloody murder. That goes from funny to sad pretty quick.

The video I saw made it seem that the screen manufacturers had to do something special to make it possible. Like it wasn't just a firmware thing.

BTW, Creatures is likely doing Pokedex 3D Pro and the Pokemon AR Searcher thingy. They're more than likely working on PokePark 3 for Wii U I'd imagine, or perhaps Ranger 4 for 3DS (hey, Wii U is a possible one now as well!).

I want a HAL Pokemon again :(, Ranger 1 was the last one.

I love WarioWare; it's one of the standard-issue games that my nieces & nephews get as part if their Nindoctrination. :)

And if that superhero game is set in Paris, I'd love it!

I had three tabs open - on at the Nsider forums, one here, and one at a certain, um.., curiously-banned Nintendo website. I remember all three tabs loading very, very slowly, and people going absolutely apeshit. We were in disbelief, and incredibly divided about the prospects of Nintendo's gambit being successful.
(apologies for the dp.. yikes..)

Wow, I just noticed the Investor meeting is 4-5 days away. Little hype.

...

Can someone remind me how we found out about that date in the first place?

I found out about it on here. Personally, I'm much more hyped for the investors' meeting than Direct.. Nintendo is going to be out to impress and reassure, given their incoming report..
