New PS3 Exclusive Revealed Next Week On GTTV (Superbot's PS All-Stars)

Yeah, I'm hoping its a more casual, light-hearted fighter in the vein of Smash Bros. rather than a complex combo fighter like Marvel vs. Capcom. I absolutely suck at competitive fighting games like that.

edit: What is this Power Stone game everyone talks about? I've never heard of it.

yup.

i hate technical fighters -- love smash bros

If the game actually sells, more third party developers would be willing to put their characters there. They could always release them via DLC.

And that makes sense, but for the initial roster, I think its too much of a gamble for most publishers. And even Sony.

If this one is in the game... oh boy, I don't wanna hear the screams...

Same here, but in all honesty, its about damn time Sony showcases their first party. As long as this "Superbot" is credible.

Did someone say Superbot was a studio with ex-ND and ex-Santa Monica employees?

Yeah it looks like they are getting rather big as well.

My only request is that they did as deep into their history as Nintendo did with Brawl...I dont even like Nintendo properties all that much but Ill be damned if I didnt read every trophy description and flip through the enitre sticker book
EDIT: I dont even thinki I care how it plays, just that the history is there and that it is true to the IPs

I honestly hope so too. This could literally shed light on so many games. I hope if this game becomes a success they get the Japanese arm involved.

Im a Sony fan through and through...got my first console when I was 11 and it was a Playstation...have about 50 PS2 games....sadly never got a PS3, still cant afford the HD tv....really love all the IPs and the sheer breadth of Sony games...seriously they have games for everyone....im trying not to get to excited, but this may end up in my collection of PS3 games I own but dont actually own a PS3 (U2 and Katamari Damacy)

EDIT: Also third party is SO important to Sony mascots....here's to hoping they are willing to work with other companies so this doesnt end up being "Sony Computer Entertainment Smash Bros."

please be a 3d plain and not 2d. sick of it! I want a naruto ultimate ninja storm/DBZ Boudakai Tenkaichi 2 type game

That would be cool, maybe something like what DW have.

The biggest factor for this game, outside of mechanics, is presentation/production values.

For this sort of game, based entirely on nostalgia, graphics/audio are HUGELY important.

And I'm not talking about graphics in the sense that it needs to look amazing like Killzone or Uncharted. When I talk about graphics, I mean the little touches -- animations, style, all of that jazz. It has to be almost comical looking and very appealing. Lots of little details that infuse the player with a sense of whatever series the character stems from.

I can't stress how important this was in making smash bros the huge success that it is.

that would be awesome. Like Sackboy entering the stage through his save patch or whatever its called hehe

Ah I hate to do this and swear I will never do it again...but dammit I love Sony IPs
if original Crash and Spyro dont make it in....man I really might not consider buying it....damn I hate being one of those guys...but Crash and Sypro made Playstation

That a good list and Crash and Spyro are a must but I would like to know what kinda theme some areas will be like.

Like patapon theme or God of war Olympus theme arenas

I know that feeling, I need Crash too, I grew up with him, Spyro I didn't like as much.

Death spin move
Wumba/fruit bazooka
Belly flop
Slide

I never got into the Crash games. I played the first one a bit, but never beat it. Spyro was fucking awesome though. If they could get both of these characters in their PS1 form it would be great, but I'm not too hopeful because Activision pretty much sucks.

Snake should be a no brainer. He was in Brawl, so there's really no reason for him to not be in this, considering he's much more affiliated with Playstation. Then either Cloud or Sephiroth (or both) to rep FFVII and I think that should be it for 3rd parties.

Another thing I really, really hope they nail is the music. The music can add a lot to the game and it needs to be perfect. The music in Smash Bros. and the way they remix classic memorable tunes is a big part of why it's so charming.

You guys forget about Daniel fortesque from Medievil! One of the best PS1 games.

I'm still angry there was no hd remake or even a sequel on the PS3.

It's a party game. I'm not saying that in a negative manner, Melee is a fun MP game. Brawl is just a bad game.

Whats up with the line of thinking that Brawl is bad? Its fun to play, looks great, has an amazing soundtrack, and a really nice/diverse set of characters. Aside from the busted online, whats so bad about it?

The way I see it is characters will be in pairs from different IPs.

Think Jak/Daxter , Ratchet/Clank, Sly/Bently, Sweet Tooth/Calypso or Dollface, Drake/Elena, Kratos/Zeus, Nariko/?, Parappa/Lammy, Cloud/Lightning, Snake or Old Snake/Raiden, Lara Croft/?, Sackboy/Mod Nation Dude. Ico/Wander(Characters like Jack&daxter represent 1 character only. Like daxter just sits on jak,'s shoulder/doesn't do anything.)

Also Jen from Primal and Kat from GD. Dude from Starhawk I would say no since he is a nobody. No Socom characters please. Wish Tomba/GEX would be in this, they would be excellent.

Honestly, the only third party characters worth mentioning are:

1. Cloud
2. Ryu
3. Solid Snake
4. Mega Man

Those last 2 could fit as easily in to Smash Bros as they could in this Sony clone as they have a history with both Nintendo and Sony. Actually, wasn't Snake already in the last Smash Bros game?

I'm not sure if they would have included Kat from Gravity Rush since that game is just coming out this summer, but I really hope they do. They'll need more female characters, and she could have a really great and unique move set. Plus I want them to promote that game and turn it into a running series because it looks fantastic.

I don't think Brawl is bad, I still really like it, but Melee is better. Brawl is a much slower game and it just doesn't "feel" as good as Melee does. Not sure how to describe it really, as I'm not a competitive player, but I just find Melee to be the more fun game.

Well that I agree with.

I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't be disappointed with 2d instead of 3d. Power stone was more fun than any 2d fighter for sans Tekken 4-5 (semi 2d?).

If we're gonna get mgs character, I bet it will be big boss/naked snake and not solid snake. They can cross promote it with mgs5 afte all. Seems like something Kojima would probably do.

I swear to god if the OT of this game turns into a huge argument about if Sony's characters are iconic enough for a crossover fighting game or not instead of how well the game plays ect.

Most of the complaints will probably be about the third party characters that didn't make it.

He was. I also don't think Ryu works because 1) Street Fighter has been on like every console ever like ten times each* and 2) he's such a boring character.

intentional hyperbole

It's not like all the characters in the Smash Bros. games are equally iconic. It's completely possible to take a lesser known character and make them more popular by including them in the roster. Surely King Dedede or whoever the fuck wasn't as well known as Mario or Samus. But in hindsight, all the Smash Bros. characters seem more iconic even if they weren't iconic to begin with.

I think there is room for that discussion.
I don't know why people are always so quick to dismiss it.
I realize that you don't play sales, but I assume people would want this to do well enough that it sticks around. And debating the possible sales potential ties into that.

I didn't know a lot of Smash characters and that honestly didn't bother me. After seeing them I would look up info about it and still thought they were pretty epic. Characters like Marth, Roy, Ike, Pit, Lucas, Falco, Ice Climbers, Wolf.

In fact, when I got the original game I didn't know who Samus, Captain Falcon, Ness, and Fox were lol

I've never played a Smash Bros. but like you I hadn't heard of many of the characters. I had an NES growing up. I subscribed to Nintendo Power. Yet I didn't know about these guys. The number of people who passionately obsess over every Nintendo franchise could not have been large enough to make Smash Bros. as popular as it is.

If a game is any good, it shouldn't be relying 100% on fan service and character recognition in the first place. I hope Sony takes a bold approach and really reaches back into their catalog. They need to take lesser known characters and make them interesting and fun to play with. They aren't going to get by purely on the "charm" of Cole McGrath.

I hope the game includes Ken Kutaragi as well...

He can throw the Boomerang Controller for his projectile attacks.
His ultimate would be grabbing the enemy, stuff him inside the PS3 "oven" and BOOMs!

so much awesome

Yep, pretty much what I believe. If the game is good then there shouldn't be a problem with choosing characters who are not widely known. If the game is bad...then they'll probably need the more iconic characters. Hopefully it's the former.
