Steam frame and steam controller likely being announced next week

The placement of those analog sticks looks…uncomfortable 😣

Nah, that's proper placement of analogs, aka resting position of thumbs. Xbox weirdos always have trouble explaining why one thumb needs to be positioned in uncomfortable place saying it's better this way but somehow it makes no difference for other thumb lololol.

That's one fugly controller. Hoping it's nice and responsive and just works beautifully.

It is created in such way to control non controler friendly games like stragy games and so on. Here is Steam controler v1 which was WWAAAAAYYY worse:

Who's this device going to be aimed at I wonder?

I mean, objectively if Steam's a draw for you, you likely already have a decent PC. VR's got a long way to go to be more than a niche of a niche. And even if you're in the market for a mini-PC there are endless options to suit almost any price point.,

Based Gaben was like sure Microsoft sure, integrate steam into the Xbox App, make people more willing to buy games on Steam because then they can play them in your new vision of Xbox/Windows Hybrid OS, and all along he was planning to release a Steam PC, that's the final nail in Xbox's coffin.

That's a good question.

I'd think its for any PC gamer who wants a convenient way to play their Steam games on the TV from the couch. Plus its very likely this Gabecube will be modable, allowing people to install and play games not on Steam, probably even emulation.

I could see it being very successful in such a space if the price is decent for whatever its specs are.

I think price is the most important thing here. People snobby about power will turn their nose at any Steambox so no point in trying to court them.

The biggest appeal will be that it hopefully just works, even if with some limitations. Not like the abomination of trying to make Windows 11 a console/gaming OS.

I agree. That's fits my use cases. Also for those that have bought a Steam Deck or Legion Go S SteamOS and want something a bit more powerful for the TV.

Yeah price will be a huge factor.

No one has matched Steam Deck in terms of value in that space. Hopefully they do the same here (I think they might),

Me. I'll be in the market to get a nice, small space-occupying (and somewhat mobile) replacement for my Windows 10 stuff next year as my extended updates end then. And I also wouldn't mind just shifting off from Windows altogether. Simultaneously, something that'll have access to future PS 1P ports (so should SIE continue as they have, which can definitely change i.e revert to pre-2020 strategy, which I wouldn't mind) and still get the MS games alongside a much better OS that I can also use for productivity & work-related purposes is ideal.

I don't think a Steam Cube would be my only device; probably would pair it with a beefier desktop, but I'm not considering a new desktop unless Steam OS is available for it. If not, then I guess I can install Bazzite or something like that. But yeah, as long as the productivity programs I use on Windows have native versions on Linux (and virtually all of them do, i.e Notepad++) or at most need to run on a compatibility layer, I'd have no issue investing in a Steam Cube, and maybe even the VR headset. Could also be a nice way of getting some of my other family members (mainly nieces & nephews) into PC gaming as a complement to their console gaming (they play on PS5s and Switch systems).
