If we're going to get new characters in the sequel, I'd rather they be instantly recognisable Marvel characters. I actually wouldn't care for Spidey. I'd much rather have the volatile Wolverine from Singer's films. Maybe Hulk can even throw him into the action like we saw Colossus do.

Went to see this for a second time today as i got comp tickets for a seat fuckup last night that almost ruined a good night.

Even better second time around and my multiplex was again absolutely packed with people lining up to see the movie. I was talking to the guy who gave us the tickets and he said next 4 showings that day were all totally sold out.

Where is this?

Did something change? I don't think there's much chance for that when the licenses are in the hands of Sony and Fox

What bugged me the whole movie was that the tesseract wasn't a tesseract but a cube. Silly thing, but still. Loved the interaction between the heroes, and Tony Stark was awesome.

Stealth edit: I've never read the comics, only seen the movies.

I imagine you can't see a tesseract for what it is in three dimensional space. A fourth dimensional cube (hypercube) in three dimensions may just look like a cube.

Sorry guys, was that really a spoiler? It's just a little tidbit, doesn't reveal anything, as that's simply a coincidence
(not like Stark constructed it)
left from the destruction. But nevertheless; spoiler'd. :lol

I can see how my post made it seem like a 'reveal' or something, but I assure you there'll be people who won't even catch that bit as it's not necessarily obvious..

I thought Avengers was really fun. I haven't seen Iron Man 2, Captain America or Thor but that didn't seem to hurt the movie. People were laughing along the best lines like it was a great comedy, and the crowd was a lot more animated than it usually is in action movies.

Uhm, so is this movie not being shown in 2D at all? All the showings for Toronto on the 3rd are in 3D. What is up with that?

A three-dimensional projection of a tesseract doesn't look like a cube, just like a two-dimensional projection of a cube doesn't look like a square. Carl Sagan talks about this and shows a three-dimensional projection of a tesseract.

That's pretty much as close as we're going to get though - a cube within a cube.

Did they change it much from Captain America? (click on image to enbiggin.)

Yeah, it was just something stupid that I noticed, didn't actually give it much though. Would've been neat if it had been a "real" tesseract, though.

I haven't seen Captain America yet, but it definitely was more blue and "swirly" inside in The Avengers than in the pic.

It was blue and swirly in Cap too. The one in that pic is a fake.

Speaking of Captain America. Did they ever refer to him as Captain America in the film? I recall hearing a lot of ''Captain'', but no America.

Yea. I don't remember anyone in the Avengers calling him Captain America. Maybe a genius move to expand the character's reach with international audiences.

He was really great in the Avengers, and pretty much the Superman we should have gotten with Superman Returns, but never did.
I'm pretty sure they do in The Avengers, and
I believe he introduces himself as Captain America
in one scene as well.

Is that the
scene where he goes after loki for the first time?
I had to go to the toilet during that scene. So I guess I must have missed it.

It's pretty much the same. Except for in the avengers, it's glowing and it's prettier.

You know what else I noticed watch the movie?

All the clips and scenes we've seen were 100x better with proper context. Everything from the Black Widow clips we saw (which some bitched about) to the Cap & Thor slow-mo fighting clip.

They were just so much better in the right context and mood. This is true for practically every little clip or bits of scenes we've seen pre-release.

While it's true that the real heavy action takes place in the last 40-30mins alone, I think all the interactions on the helicarrier were valuable and set up that amazing non-stop sequence of war/action.

Good point, i'm not sure if I heard the full 'Captain America' title either. I don't think I ever heard the words "Black Widow" (just Natasha), and even I even think 'Hawkeye' was said a grand total of ONCE.

For the better imo.

It was really great how they referred to Widow and Hawkeye using their real names. It distinguished them from the rest of the group for the audience on a subconcious level me thinks. We already know they don't have super powers, and emphasising that they are just agents and not necessarily larger than life superheroes with fantastical superpowers, just puts the audience in the mindset that these ''ordinary'' characters are in danger all the time and you find yourself rooting for them to do well and survive.

Who here
Didn't feel like Natasha was in real danger when she was trapped underneath that rubble with the Hulk bursting out of Bruce right next to her?
It also helped facilitate the emphasis of their
relationship
.

There was a scene featuring those two which the cynical side of me was dreading as it went on.
When Hawkeye recovers from Loki's spell and Widow is there in the room with him. As their conversation went on I was expecting the twist that Hawkeye was still under Loki's command and he would suddenly attack Widow and make his escape.
But that did not happen and I was relieved as a result. They did a great job with their personalities.

Okay sort of off-topic question here, but this sparked a long mildly heated debate between me and my roomate last night:
So you know how all of theaters are doing a Marvel Movie Marathon for the midnight release yeah? Would you consider it to be okay for someone to sit and play their DS (with no sound) during the movies that have already been released?
In my opinion and as someone who has worked at a movie theater for a awhile, I think that's kinda douchy, but what are your thoughts GAF?

If you want to play your DS why not do it outside the theater? You could play it on the bench where the movie is playing.

It's douchy and a distraction to the other movie patrons. Other people of paid for the marathon, let them enjoy it.

If you don't want to watch a movie you've seen before in a marathon, leave the cinema and go do something else and come back later. Using a device with a lighted screen in a cinema is fucking annoying regardless of whether there is sound or not. That's what I think.

That seems like a fantastic way to get beaten up in the car park afterwards

^If the screen is dimmed down enough and they are sitting in the very back, sure. Otherwise it's a distraction.

What about the guy sitting right next to him?

No matter what it is always a bad idea to use a lighted device in the theatre. Yesterday some guy got a call in a movie I was seeing, stood up and left with the phone still ringing, came back in the theatre 30 seconds later disturbing everyone again. Fucking bastard.

This is one of many reasons I generally don't like movie theaters. I'd much rather watch a movie in the comfort of my own home. Especially with 1080p, blu ray and 5.1 surround, I don't really miss much by not seeing it in theaters.

His DS should be snapped in half.

When will someone make a comprehensive Marvel Cinematic Universe thread? I'd like there to be a place to discuss news and rumors of all future movies within the MCU arch..

Grown ass person playing a DS at the movies? Douche would be the nicest thing I could call them.
