chris evans was good casting, cant think of anyone i'd prefer really..

i dont know if it was weaving himself or marvel that talked about it, but i remeber that someone said that he is not coming back as red skull.

this is what he said:

Though Weaving says that such big-budget fare as "Captain America" can be a lot of fun -- not to mention lucrative -- these movies don't present the kind of acting challenges on which he thrives.

"I think I've about had enough," he says.

"I'm not sure how many more of them I'll make. It doesn't feel to me as though they've been the majority of my work, though that's probably the way it seems to most other people."

"I'm not sure how many more of them I'll make.."

we'll see

Let's do this.

Thor - Very fun, dumb ride, but a great, very Branaugh vibe throughout. The earth bits are dull, and the final fight is lame. The Asgard sequences - namely Hiddlestone and the silly band of men save it.

X-Men First Class - McAvoy and Fassbender are phenomenal. It captured Professor X and Magneto as well as Sirs McKellan and Stewart. The Argentina scene is the best scene in the series not in X2. With the exception of the quick ending, which I'll chalk up to the less than 12 month production schedule, it's the second best X-Men film behind X2.

Iron Man - Most polished Marvel film by far. No huge pitfalls in it, other than the disappointing villain.

Iron Man 2 - Not as good as the first. Action was still very good. Howard Stark Sr. was the most memorable part out of it - other than ScarJo.

Captain America - The action was just bad. Storming factories - explosions in the background. That pretty much sums it up. I actually really liked the secondary characters - Band of Brothers guy and such - and Evans was fine as Captain America. This, more than any other Marvel film, felt like a SyFy channel production - particularly the final sequence starting with the hangar chase scene and so on.

Captain America shows what it means to be a hero.

The other Marvel movies, not so much. They just do what they feel like.

True! Going by Iron Man 2 and probably 3's mashing up of plots, I reckon Cap 2 will have both the Winter Soldier plot and some stuff with Red Skull and H.Y.D.R.A.. They've got to reintroduce the latter at some point, it's a key part of Marvel. And Red Skull is basically floating around the Nine Realms so they can easily enough pull some plot mumbo jumbo out of their arse to bring him back into the modern-day fold.

It's a hilarious way of basically calling the people who love this film dirty fanboys.

Iron Man 3 will be Extremis while nanite-infested Tony goes to China to fight the international terrorist organization called The Mandarin (that's how they really are doing Mandarin in the movie...really).

Cap 2 will be Winter Soldier as the villain. He'll turn good at the end and the Cap 3 will be a buddy comedy.

2015 will bring Planet Hulk. They'll base it on the comics sort of with Banner at the craps table in Vegas, losing and hulking out. They'll launch him into space and he'll crash land on a planet ruled by Red Skull.

The terrorist group is actually called the "Ten Rings." They're the ones who kidnap Tony Stark in the first film.

Yeah, I don't really like him in the films. I like his character (i.e. hitting people with shields and whatnot), but Evans is bland, and the character is bland. I think it should have been someone older, 35-40. I know its written as he commands respect but I don't really believe in it. At least not in The Avengers.
I agree with the age part. Chris Evans looks too young to be believable. It made sense in the Captain America movie, but now not so much in the Avengers.

For me the movie was very disappointing. The funny bits weren't funny and the action was only OK. Maybe I was expecting too much from a comic book movie...

They're calling them The Mandarin in IM3. Ben Kingsley is playing the leader and Andy Lau is Tony Stark's token Asian buddy who helps him take them down.

Because Bruce Wayne hobbling around in a wheelchair for an hour+ is going to be SO much more exciting.

The article refers to Mandarin the MAN, not the group. The article even mentions the Ten Rings by name.

Read the whole article:

Andy Lau’s character will NOT be The Mandarin – oops, there goes our headline.

Ben Kingsley perhaps playing the head villain and leader of a group called The Mandarin or posing as a Chinese threat to start a war of Iron Men.

They wouldn't let them film in China with a villain named "The Mandarin" in the movie.

Marvel would have to be completely out of their minds to replace Whedon for the inevitable sequel.

They won't. He has an option for the sequel, they'll pick it up.

Hopefully they involve him even further in the future, like the rewrites he did for Cap.

Most of the article is conjecture. They even point out that they're mostly guessing based on what we already know about the movie.

Seems like the only "news" there is that they think Andy Lau might be signing on the movie, and the rest is all guesswork though!
That would be so sweet. Andy's a great actor in both the big ticket items now and the Triad/Wong Jing movies he made breaking into the HK market. Just a good person too.

Andy Lau fights security beating up fan!

Love how his dancers just keep along with the routine!

And yes, I do feel that Evans kinda... lost some of the bulk here. I excuse it because he probably lost shape while sleeping for decades. *cough* No excuses for CA2 though, he needs to look the part, especially knowing about the sort of threats the world now could face.

Yeah, it was weird, he was about the size he was in F4. Kinda...took away a bit from Cap imo

Name him the Cantoman! Why not just film in Taiwan or even Korea, both are good standins for the Mainland (Korea was used in a ton of Golden Harvest flicks, you can even see Korean extras). Though China would just not the let the movie play, but ah fix it in dubbing and location changes.

Apparently on GAF every comic book movie argument is about either Avengers or The Dark Knight Rises. One side or the other! At least that's what I heard!

Hey I bring in the Punisher to balance things out!

That's strange because they began filming Avengers two days after the New York scene in Captain America was filmed.

They filmed the scene with Cap and Nick Fury on April 23rd, 2011 and began filming Avengers in New Mexico on April 25th.

I think people are getting way too caught up on the idea that China = Mandarin. I don't think he is the villain. My personal gut feeling is that they're doing Extremis (already rumored) and
Stark Resilient
(hinted at in Avengers).
The entire clean energy story push is very likely going to be tied to Stark trying to do some good in the world after reflecting on the events of Avengers, and picking China as a location to try and introduce the technology. Extremis would be the threat, and could be a form of sabotage or corporate warfare to stop Stark from destroying the energy industry.

I could be wrong, but this makes more sense to me than the movie being a big collaboration with China and the Chinese government only to go with a predictable, cliched, and arguably racist villain in the form of The Mandarin. I would love to see Fin Fang Foom, but I really don't think it's going to happen.

Major After-credits spoiler:
Thanos? What do you think about that? Interesting to be sure, plenty of lore there with ties to these characters... but commercially an interesting move. Loki was really smart; not only because of Thor's success, but because he's a character with very "human" faults. He's easy to relate to; his perceived inferiority, his feelings of abandonment, sibling rivalry, etc. He works. In fact, I think he's one of the best portrayed villans Marvel has done. However, Thanos is so alien to the masses... so difficult to connect to. That whole end scene - while I thought was written well - felt so "Green Lantern" movie to me, that I think it's bold on Whedon's part. Maybe that just shows his confidence, but on paper it's like box office poison

I have put together a group of like 15 people to see this thing. Twas not my intention, but that's what ended up happening.

That said, midnight Thursday can't get here fast enough.

Can I start Team "Amazing Spider-Man"? I want to throw a monkey wrench into this thang.

He was already smaller at the end of Cap compared to how he was roided coming out of the Vat.

No.

No no no.

There is no throne. There is no version of this where Amazing Spider-Man comes out on top. Maybe it tops the box office, maybe it's too much for GAF but it's all on you.

This was probably discussed and answered but when Cap was doing some investigating on his own he found some kind of black suit and helmet/mask or am I mistaken?
