I don't think GAF will be happy with Cap when he says
"There is only one god and I’m pretty sure he doesn’t dress like that"
in response to Widow's reference of Loki

Heh, I actually liked that line even though I'm on the complete opposite side :)

Mark Ruffalo signed on for 6 more marvel films....i heard him say it on jimmy fallon. here is one link http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2012/may/01/mark-ruffalo-hulk-six-movie-deal?newsfeed=true

YES! I loved Ruffalo as Banner but I like consistency in actors even more.

Please, I'd love to hear your reasoning.

It's completely in-character.

I'm sure Meus is just conducting an experiment with that post. Let him be. :)

*cough*

Why?
Cap is the embodiment of 1940's America, and by extension ticks all of the boxes on what Americans prefer when it comes to choosing their leaders. It would make less sense for him to not be a conservative,
religious and patriotic person.

And to be honest. He's a good reminder that
religion
isn't always a bad thing. Not that I am
religious
or anything.

Lol I mean he wouldn't get away with it if he were posting on Gaf

edit: ^ Oh, I see what you mean now.
I think you could apply the same logic to many famous and revered comedians as well.

Yea. I loved it too.

Cap, at times reminded me of Christopher Reeve's Superman. Was great to see him on screen.

The moment I saw Ruffalo's Banner was when I realised this was gonna be a great frickin film.

That's what I've been trying to say all week. I'm so happy someone else noticed. The Cap is by all intents and purposes the only hero in the conventional sense, even the way Whedon shot some of the latter scenes with him embodied him this way.

Scarlett Johansson's so fucking hot, that scene was the best one in the movie because I could ignore the dialogue and play 80s porn movie music in my head

I hate to say it but I loved all the 3D scenes she was in and thoroughly ignored everything else going on around her. Such a beautiful woman.

I would watch Avengers 2 if her arse was the main villain and sucked in planets, Galactus style. And then it ends with it blowing up in 3D and I get hot Scarlett bumchunks all over my face

How surprising.
Sorry I don't like shit shoved down my mouth. No matter how much I enjoyed Hulk going ape shit on the baddies.
I didn't get the impression you were going to like it much to begin with. Did you like the other Marvel flicks?

Yeah I liked both Iron Man movies. The Incredible Hulk. Thought Thor was good but had a lot of shit holding it back.

The Hulk and Stark stole this movie. Also, Evans was so wooden and uncharismatic in this it I can't believe you guys are saying he is anywhere close to Reeves.

...I regret my post.

LOOK AT THIS AGAIN AND DISAGREE WITH ME

But this one is in the movie :

I wonder when they chose to use the "whip" sound... When reviewing the scene for the first time and thinking it was a funny thing, or later in production when they couldn't correct the scene ?

I'm not sure what I'm supposed to focus on here.

Oh, one thing I'm surprised hasn't been mentioned yet.

I was slightly disappointed by the lack of an "Avengers, assemble!" line. I mean it's the title of the UK version!

Probably would've been too cheesy. I also notice quite a few lines that were in the trailers that weren't in the movie, like the 'time out' line for example, among others.

Just saying your quick initial "review" post wasn't surprising considering how most of your posts in any Avengers thread has been negative/condescending. I expect a similar reaction from Bob. ;P

I never go into a movie wanting to hate or love it. There are somethings I really like about the movie but tons of shit I hated.

Time to get this thread back on track ... with some Box office news! Another mind boggling day of 42.3M overseas without Russia, China, Japan. Total upto 260.5M now.
‘Avengers’ Now $260.5M Overseas: Could Reach $585M Worldwide Through Sunday With U.S., Canada, Russia, China Openings

EXCLUSIVE: My sources estimate the global juggernaut that is Marvel’s The Avengers from Disney could close in on $160M when it opens in North America this weekend and $425M when it debuts in Russia and China for a possible total near $585M through Sunday. Even very conservative estimates put the worldwide total at $450M through Sunday when Joss Whedon’s actioner will be open in every movie territory except Japan. Yesterday alone The Avengers made $42.3M overseas from 41 territories, bringing the total through Tuesday to $260.5M. Meanwhile, Fandango reports a surge in advance ticket sales for The Avengers which is scooping up 94% of today’s pre-sales. Marvel’s superhero ensemble is currently outpacing last summer’s blockbuster Transformers 3: Dark Of The Moon at the same point in that film’s sales cycle. In an April survey on Fandango, the majority of moviegoers picked The Avengers as the most anticipated film of the summer. Some 66% of fans said they plan to see the pic on the big screen more than once. About 31% chose Iron Man as the film’s biggest draw, followed by The Hulk (23%); Thor (15%), and Captain America (12%). And 52% said Black Widow is the next Avengers character they’d like to see in a solo vehicle, followed by 35% for Hawkeye, and 13% for Nick Fury.

Overseas, Thailand & Singapore opened yesterday on their National Labor Day holiday and set not only the highest opening day in industry history, but also the highest grossing single day of all-time. New cumes to date include UK $29.8M, Mexico $27.0M, Australia $22.6M, France $19.7M, Brazil $18.8M.
For reference, TF3 got 162M in it's 5 day weekend. Every prediction I'm seeing now is that 1B WW is a lock now.

FYI, that latino market - Mexico is HUGE for Avengers. At 27M right now in 5 days, for comparison 30M was Transformers 3 total gross and the highest gross in Mexico is held by Toy Story 3 at 59M.

Harry's review up on AICN, who predictably fanboys out.

Watching the HULK in this movie – tells me beyond any doubt that MARVEL needs to begin to build towards the intelligent heroic HULK – and then place him in his own AVATAR-esque $250 million dollar Science Fiction/Gladiator flick – because we would lose our collective minds for that shit. Scared of the cost? Split it with FOX and have them toss in The Silver Surfer. C’mon… we all want it. It’d melt our brains. And all we could do is purchase tickets to the movie repeatedly and live in the lines waiting to see it again.

This really is the Whedonocalypse.

If you're going to see this movie in IMAX 3D, see it in Digital IMAX 3D. 70mm IMAX is ill-suited for something like this.

Sculli recommended the same for Prometheus. I just hate going to Digital IMAX instead of 70mm because of the smaller screen, even if it wasn't filmed with IMAX in mind. Something about seeing that huge 70mm screen just gets me every time.

Do you only say it's ill-suited because of the 3D? With the aspect ratio being 16:9, the picture should be even better than the normal upsized IMAX movies I watch.

Wouldn't that just be john carter 2? Maybe they could team up.

Does John Carter beat up the Silver Surfer in gladiator-style combat? A Planet Hulk movie would be awesome.

As far as a Black Widow movie goes, it would make far more sense to just do a damn S.H.I.E.L.D. flick and give Widow, Hawkeye and Fury plenty of development and spotlight. It could use small cameos with The Avengers and deal with what S.H.I.E.L.D. has to do to keep superhuman crime fighters in check.

Excuse me while I take a little time to laugh at the non-believers.

1 day.

Watched Captain America yesterday. It was boring and the action was super weak. Not enough humor either.

I'm halfway through Thor today and I'm liking it a lot more. Specifically because it doesn't have any of the issues I noted above.

I will not be watching The Hulk. I hated the Eric Bana one and the Edward Norton version doesn't look much better. I'll be fine with just seeing Ruffalo play the role in Avengers.
