Charlie and the Chocolate Factory grossed $474,968,763 WW which is not bad. However other than Alice all his mega hits have have been within the Pirates franchise.
It's not bad, its good. But no where near as good as to knock Avengers train off the track, which was the context to begin with.

Regardless, the genre and look of Dark Shadows seems closer to Sweeney Todd (I know its not a musical but still)/Sleepy Hollow than Charlie. A number between Sleep Hollow and Charlie seems like a good bet for DS but its not enough to stop the Avengers juggernaut.

They still make their money back here and OS they always make good money. Except Sweeny but we can all understand why...
Not talking if Depp/Burton flicks are flops or hits or earners, we're talking about Dark Shadows in context of effecting Avenger's grosses and hence its legs to reach the 1B mark.

To be honest, before this release, none of those but TDKR had much of a chance of making 1B. No way The Hobbit will even get close, in my opinion

Fellowship of the Ring, the lowest grossing movie in the LOTR trilogy, made $869 million worldwide. Adjust for inflation and it would be well over a billion. If The Hobbit sells as many tickets as that (and it will sell more), it will break $1 billion easy. Fellowship was the unproven movie, and The Hobbit is the first Middle Earth film in 9 years. Add in higher ticket prices, as well as 3D surcharge, and you have a recipe for a HUGE film.

Hobbit will make over $1b worldwide this year, and will easily top TDKR worldwide as well. Unless it is a giant clusterfuck. I will put an avatar bet on that one.

Probably the only thing more predictable than The Avengers being a huge hit was the legion of trolls the movie would bring out. JUst look at the Top 10 posters in this thread. :lol
Nice, I'm the second top poster.

CaptYamato really didn't like this movie, not sure what to make of that because I almost never agree with him on anything.

Stick Ghost Rider and The Punisher in the same film.

I have a better question: who gives a shit? Ghost Rider is pretty cool occasionally but the fact that he has two movies baffles me. He never had a cartoon (although he did destroy Galactus that one time
). I reckon Marvel will end up with the rights again eventually, just because no-one knows what to do with him.
Ghost Rider and Punisher were both featured in one of the sequels to The Ultimates. And it was Glorious:

Ultimate Comics Avengers: Volume 2. I am a very happy owner of the hardcover.

Should just combine the characters into Ghostpunisher.

So disagree. the Hobbit is nowhere near as popular as Lord of the Rings and given the much higher ticket prices it will do much less ticket wise.

That is unless closer to release it is extremely marketed as a LOTR.

Just my opinion.

To most people The Hobbit is going to be more Lord of the Rings.

Ultimate Avengers sucked but boy did I love that issue.

Dark Shadows looks fucking stupid. Why are they even bothering using that name when it's nothing like the original series? How many fans did it even had that would come out to see it?

oh it had shit tons in its day, and it stayed on for a lot of episodes. It was the soap opera back in the day, most original fans i spoke to are not interested in Burtons update.

I swear you typed "Toronto" instead of "Toro." Maybe I'm just seeing things.
LOL

My phone auto-corrected it to Toronto but I edited it swiftly.

Well one of us has good taste in film and women.

I'm talking about myself just in case you didn't get the point.

Actually, yeah. I've had my fill of Peter Jackson's view of Middle Earth.
Seriously.

Enough is enough.

Nah man, they're two very different characters. Ghost Rider hunts down scum because he has to. The Punisher does it because he wants to. :P

I know, but you have to admit that's one sweet name.

Some context to that shot, since it's true glory isn't adequately described in a single panel;[IMG]http://i.imgur.com/8zSFY.jpg

This guy won't ever be on the Avengers. All I can think back to is this scene from the Civil War;

People must be smoking some good whedon to think that this film is hitting 1b.

You're still going to be saying this when it's at $999 million a few weeks in.
You have a knack for being wrong about everything.
I goes mods noticed, too.

Everyone in the trailer threads kept posting how Whedon was making it look like a cheap TV series but that was the most detailed CGI I've ever seen.

And for the most part the cinematography itself was fine. Not stellar, but perfectly adequate. That whole "lol tv camera angle", "lol, tv lighting" was BS. And I'm glad, because I can say that I also fell for it.

Some of the clips that were first shown seemed like tv productions. Majority of the trailer material always looked polished.

I thought the trailers were indicative of the end product, visually the movie is fairly bland. But no, it doesn't look made for TV. :P

My wife surprised me today by getting tomorrow off so we could go to the Avengers Marathon together.

SO HYPE!

I hate you. Seriously.
Not really

I tried to get the day off, but could not find anyone else wanting to go for the marathon. If I didn't go to that, I planned on doing a weird double feature. My theater is showing Godfather II at 7pm. I planned on doing that, then Avengers. But again, no one else wanted to do it.

For now it is meeting friends/coworkers for food at 8, then off to see HULK SMASH!

Got my tickets for the 7:15pm showing tomorrow! Here in Puerto Rico it started today and when I went to get tickets at 2pm the theater was packed considering most people were working and at school. So hyped!!!!

Is it weird that I like Hulk and all the random nods like Ferrigno and the pants?

Edit: I'm kinda meh on Tyler though :-/

Not at all. I like all the little nods throughout and I think it is a great movie. I would have loved to have had Jennifer Connelly again in place of Liv Tyler though. Also having Sam Elliot back as Ross would also have been superb.

Yeah, I actually like that one too, I think I've seen it around four times and it's still pretty good.

I like the lighting in some of the scenes, as weird as that sounds, lol. Sometimes there's a green glow that has a nice effect.

Lol, "Dude, just hit me"

Having Hemsworth in Thor shape hit you would NOT be fun. Well, maybe. But damn, that is dedication. I always like hearing stories like that. Costars telling each other to actually hit each other. I always liked the story from Air Force One of Harrison Ford telling Gary Oldman that he wasn't selling the punch and to actually hit him. So Oldman decked Ford. For the next few weeks Ford had a black eye and thanked Oldman every day for it, because it sold the scene.

Ford's take on that stuff: that is still part of acting. Jumping through a window, falling out of a car, shooting a fight scene=all part of acting. But jumping out of a plane or really super crazy, Jackie Chan level stuff=stuntwork.

Damn, the employee screening didn't have the final added bit post-credits. Gonna have to catch it opening night anyway!

Black Widow has to get back to the Avengers Mansion so her sticky buns dont burn in the oven. But she has time to kick some butt in the mean time.
