Some thoughts that don't need to be spoiled:
-My particular theater was doused in fucking kerosene. It was a midnight, IMAX showing so I'm sure it was a hardcore audience, but holy shit. Incredibly hyped humans with minimal assholes. Since the trailers included The Dark Knight Rises and Amazing Spider-Man, the place was ready to burst from minute one. Best midnight showing I've ever been to.
Tons of huge reaction moments. If I had to gauge the movie's performance at the box office based on this showing in Sunrise, FL, I would say it is going to be absolutely massive.
-The writing is seriously great. Lots of pitch-perfect, tension-relieving comedic moments. I must say between this and the Cabin in the Woods, Joss Whedon is on fire right now.
-Most stunning of all from my perspective was that no character or actor really seemed to be a weak link in the chain. They were all simply great, acting like true stars. Despite so much clashing talent being on screen simultaneously, everyone gets a set of great individual beats, and all are allowed to shine (Ruffalo's Hulk in particular truly injecting killer amounts of high-octane awesomesauce into the mix). By the end of the movie, every main character including, against all odds, Jeremy Renner and Scarlett Johannssen as Hawkeye and Black Widow, are so comfortable in their skin, so completely inhabiting their characters, that the funniest line in the movie winds up being silence.
-The special effects and cinematography were just stellar. A technical Marvel, making the most convincing case of any film so far that anything a writer can dream up can now be compellingly rendered by a talented set of hands.
I'm gonna watch it tomorrow. Is the 3D and Imax worth the extra price?
IMAX definitely is, just to be able to see the outstanding visual design and quality on display. The best thing I can say about the 3D is that it stayed out of my way.
