so is agent coulson dead? it seemed like a staged death, with the 'lacking conviction' line and what-not. i figured they would've explained that during the film, but i didn't stay for the after-credits

Even grown women, lol

The Chris Evans-Chris Hemsworth effect. Chicks were audibly gasping whenever those two showed up.

I don't believe Fury for a second, specially after the trading cards thing.

Some people are saying he doesn't, since Whedon specifically said he wouldn't die.

The only people I have seen it with who didn't love the movie are my most bubbleheaded female friends, but still liked Captain America and Thor because goddamn muscles. Everyone else was giddy as fuck.

Ending ending scene question:
Who was that dude with the red face? I don't know anything about these guys. :/

I can't find anything wrong with this movie. It's glorious. I don't know how many times I'll go rewatch it, I just wish every time was a first time.

Thats what I expected the last scene to be. and heard somewhere that he is supposed to be in Iron Man 3. I was like damn at the card part. hope he comes back somehow

i'll probably go see this in a couple months. i assume it'll be in theaters for a long while. i'd go see it tomorrow if joss whedon changed his name to Benedict Cumberbatch.

Samuel Jackson as Nick Fury keeps being the worst casting decision. It's weird, yes he looked and was inspired by him in the Ultimate version of Nick Fury but...maybe it's just me but he didn't act he does in the movies.

He's not a badass. Doesn't talk like a badass. Nothing.

fffuuuuu
THANOS!!!!!!!
Avengers was amazing, sooo excited to see it a second time. Also sooo excited for Spider-man, hope he makes it into Avengers 2!!!

Really. Ricking his life and everyone else's on the helicarrier just to stop a nuke carrying jet from taking off and destroying Manhattan wasn't badass?

Loved everything in the movie.
Thanos
I swear to god I never thought I would be alive to say I can't wait to see him in a live action marvel movie. I'm so happy right now.

No,
he's dead. They literally showed him dying, and a good filmmaker never lies to the audience...

But moreover, it was Loki who killed him, an uncontrolled element. There would be no way to control a wound such that it would be near-fatal, but not quite.

Some general musings:

Didn't the chitauri shape-shift int the comics? I wonder if they'll use that in sequels. Also whatever Loki planned would have been meaningles. He was a mere pawn the minute he made a deal with Thanos.

Yeah and I have to say Marvel did a really good job misdirecting the fans about the real bad guy. There are few people who can fuck with Loki like that and
Thanos
is one.

They are
basically Skrulls, so they do shapeshift. I doubt it'll be significant or that they'll reappear, except maybe their Leader since he seems to work as Thanos' second in command.

And Loki was desperate and pretty much insane. He seems to be aware that deal is a very bad idea, but he still went with it. And Thanos doesn't even need to be manipulative, it's pretty obvious what both would get. Thanos gets the almost infinite power of the Cosmic Cube, Loki gets a wrecked Earth

i thought he was stabbed by a knife or something. i remember phil saying that loki didn't have conviction, which i would assume meant that he didn't attack him to kill. he then passed out and fury, with his secrets-within-secrets, confirms over radio that he is dead. i don't see much that makes it seem like he's really dead.

i liked this movie a lot. it was pretty damn amazing. so much good action, and it was very balanced in its approach and gave an equal amount of story and action scenes to each character.

i didnt watch thor before seeing this, so i kinda missed out on a couple things there.

why wasnt war machine anywhere to be found?
also, i'm guessing iron man 3 is going to take into account the events of this movie?
and is Thanos more powerful than Oblivion or Galactus?
also, where did Thor and Loki go when they disappeared at the end? i dont get it

My guess is that they thought having "Iron Man 2.0" would steal some of Tony's thunder. I'm confident he'll be there for Avengers 2.
Iron Man 3 will probably include one or two jokes referencing the movie and the new armor but I don't think they'll do more.
And Thanos is more manipulative and more evil, but not stronger. Unless he gets the Infinity Gauntlet, of course. Then he steamrolls anything

i agree with the whole 'no threat' thing, but there wasn't a single part of the movie where i cared about that. i just loved watching them kickass together, which is what a superhero movie should be.

film was totally amazing, far beyond my expectations.

i loved seeing all the characters on the screen for sure!

the scene in the end credits says to me the sequel will be more of the same... i.e. random save the world storyline... a bit like how the transformers has turned out.

Is it wrong that I found the film to be just okay? And that about 90% of the reactions I have read are just people overreacting?

I thought it had some fun moments and I did enjoy the last 30 minutes of it, but afterwards, I just felt meh, like "yeah, saw that, what's out next week?"

Will I go see it again? No. Will I recommend it to friends? Yes, but only if you enjoyed Iron Man or Captain America, I still can't fathom how people enjoyed Iron Man 2.

is captain america supposed to act like a dumb jock? i don't read the comics but i would assume being a leader he would be a bit more awesome....

it's the avengers, the entire point is to save the world. Not brood in a corner like Batman.

were you a big comic book fan as a kid?

The first iron man was still better than the avengers in terms of story.

awesome to see all the characters though :) and i thought they divided the screen time up perfectly. it was like they were all leads.

no, i think you can definitely see this film as "Just okay." I wouldn't say it is the best movie ever, but it is really a perfect example of a good super hero movie that revolves mostly around action. i guess its sort of like transformers but with marvel super heroes.

the individual super hero movies are the ones where you actually get character building experiences. movies like this are just fun entertainment with cool action. and its pretty awesome seeing so many famous actors on the screen at the same time.

LOL yes - but ironman and spiderman had a better story... i thought when the avengers paused to tell the story, it was just loki and whatever avenger member happened to be in the room trading lines...

I object to the bolded. The comic storylines of Spider-man has always been about bad things happening to him. Peter Parker really does have a very depressing life. It's to be expected, no "but even" about it.

I have no reason not to agree with you seeing as i've never read spiderman or the avengers but i don't really know THAT many people that have read the avengers anyway... the masses are lapping this up at the box office. having said that i just think it could have been more epic if the story wasn't always treated like an ugly step child

I didn't grow up with the comics or particularly like superheroes.....but I still thought the movie was fantastic. Just a really fun movie with some incredible action!

However, the last few pages of this thread are definitely full of people overreacting a little. It's pretty understandable, but let's not get carried away AmericaGAF.

I don't understand what your saying. The story was pretty simple and it was always being pushed forward. i don't really see how they treated it as an ugly stepchild.

It's alright that you found it to be ok. It's not alright to think that other people's opinions are overreactions. Maybe they really do think this is one of the best comic book films ever, I certainly do.

Since your other questions was answered I'll just answer the last one.

They went back to Asgard.

It's great that people are liking the movie, I got to see again soon.
