If Banner initiates the transformation intentionally, he has a measure of control. But if it's induced by external factors, he'll be in berserker mode.

Man I loved this, every single character had their moments.
fake Imax nuked my eyes though.

is
Agent Coulson
an original character created for these movies?

Yes, he actually has made it into the comic universe and other media like the Ultimate Spidey animated show.

Oh yeah, you could definitely tell the theater added another Avengers screen at the last second. The sign for the theater room still said "The Pirates! Band of Misfits" on it :lol

To be fair, outside of the effects-heavy scenes, there are many points where the film absolutely looks like a TV show. Of course it didn't matter in the end, because it's just a lot of fun, but it still has Whedon's flair all over it.

Agreed, but to somewhat of an advantage i believe. Some of it feels like a really good show that you've gotten to the final few episodes of a season into. It already has established characters, you already have a good grasp on what the characters are like so they don't waste any time explaining like other movies do. It makes the little tie-ins of the other movies worthwhile if you've seen them.

It's similar to what Whedon's Astonishing X-Men brought to the table.. a feeling like you already know these characters so let's not waste time explaining them and how outrageous they are.

Also, I am happy to say my early fears about Cap coming off as useless were put to rest.
He did exactly what I wanted him to do: take initiative and be the leader the team needed. The moment the Chitarui invaded and shit got real, Cap stepped up and told everyone exactly what needed to happen. The scene with him ending the fight between IM and Thor was a perfect way to establish "Yeah. This guy is the leader" Evans was just as likable as ever playing him, his fights were really fun (they nailed his acrobatics. And that shield put in work), and the back and forth between Tony and Steve was perfect. I loved him in the street battle, and saving that bank full of people. Also, the suit looked fine in the movie.

R.I.P Son of Coul

that scene was the hottest ive seen Gywneth Paltrow ever. Ever.

actually i really think whedon had far too many closeups of paltrow... she's really getting on i have to say... i can see why hollywood execs prefer younger actresses... even scarlett johannsson is getting on.

pretty disappointed with the movie.... its not awful... its just so light and bland, there's no threat ever, it was obvious with Whedon directing, and the source material doesn't help either. I'm not expecting Batman type levels of epicness, but even Spiderman 1 and 2 had a weighty consequential storyline. This is not even popcorn, matinee light... i suppose if you're 10 years old this would be kind of badass, but this is about as light as harry potter or barney and friends.

mark ruffalo was amazing though.

Looking forward to Prometheus, Dark Knight Rises, Expendables 2 and Bourne Legacy... excellent movie season ahead!

Best movie. My hands are fucking raw from clapping and I can't wait to watch it over and over and catch all the lines. Filled to the fucking brim with awesome quotes/scenes.

Speaking of Gwen, I like her as Pepper but uh...why was she wearing such shorts in that scene? Seemed pretty strange to me...
Ah well she was still hot regardless~

visual cue facilitating the view of their relationship status

and obviously hotness reasons

His leadership skills were on point throughout though.

I still think he was depicted as a poor strategist. Good leader, yes,
he efficiently intervened between Thor and Iron Man, and when he gave instructions at the beginning of the final fight nobody argued
, but there were big holes in his strategy from what I remember :
several times someone said "we have to close this portal" and he was all "nah, let's fight the grunts on the ground first", and finally it was Black Widow who went "fuck it, I can close the portal, I'm doing it. Give me a lift." Actually Black Widow turns out as the smartest character of the lot (not including scientific skills of course)

I object to the bolded. The comic storylines of Spider-man has always been about bad things happening to him. Peter Parker really does have a very depressing life. It's to be expected, no "but even" about it.

They find out how to close the portal just before Ironman catches the nuke, at which point he tells Widow to hang on a sec. Up until that point, closing it was impossible.

Didn't they find out how to close it when Widow went up there and met Selvig, who informed her there was a "backdoor" ?

There were a lot of 'holy shit' and amazing parts, but one in particular that stood out to me as impressive was
during the battle in New York, the long continuous shot featuring all the Avengers doing their thing and being awesome while fighting the Chitauri.
Just so awesome.

That shot had me in awe, so fantastic.

Movie was awesome, I'm so glad to see all of thse heroes together in one film finally and the execution of the film was great. I was worried that due to RDJ being such a huge star it would turn into "Iron Man 2 1/2 feat. The Other Avengers". Thankfully early reviews said it wasn;t and they were certainly right.

Another one of my favorite shots was
Iron Man on his back after falling through the wormhole and the other heroes standing around him. The way they were placed and the viewing angle we had it felt like a panel directly out of a comic. If they ever had a "Death of Tony Stark" issue in The Avengers

A good part of the final battle was

Hulk and Thor riding one of the beasts, hulk rips off a metal fin and drives it into the beast, Thor hammers it in like a nail with no hesitation

The more I think about it. The more I start to realise just how surreal the last 1 hour of this film was.
All of those superheroes doing what superheroes do best. Being themselves in the process. Absolutely nothing changed for the sake of an adaptation. Just had these superhero comicbook characters, on screen, in the flesh, in the real world. It all felt so fucking surreal. I doubt any other superhero film made me feel so deeply satisfied. My inner child just resurfacing in those last minutes. It was just...unbelievable.

someone at WB is going to watch this then green light and rush Justice League.
It was just too good.

I had exactly same thought. But I am afraid DC Comics movies so far are fragmented, I think. Does WB own the rights to all of their heroes?. In a perfect world we'd also see - oh boy the shivers - Justice League versus Avengers.

i agree with the whole 'no threat' thing, but there wasn't a single part of the movie where i cared about that. i just loved watching them kickass together, which is what a superhero movie should be.

film was totally amazing, far beyond my expectations.

This film is amazing. It wildly surpassed all of my expectations, I couldn't believe it.

There is no forced romantic subplot. They show the villain throughout the movie causing actual destruction, building him up as a legitimate force to be reckoned with. They incorporated Hawkeye and Black Widow just as well as the main heroes, making two characters that I thought would drag the film down into some true badasses. The story was more interesting because of how it is set on a cosmic scale. With six overpowered heroes I was skeptical they could provide a challenge to them without pulling something cheap and generic. Instead they went with something that feels incredibly true to the spirit of comics, and keeps the narrative engaging throughout.

But best of all every hero is at their pinnacle, all of them showcasing both dialogue and superpower displays that go far above and beyond anything featured in each hero's respective film. Ruffalo is an amazing Bruce Banner, and I will be incredibly disappointed if he doesn't get his own movie. Thor is much less of a prideful jackass and thus is way more likable, Cap shows his qualities as a leader, and we get a genuine glimpse into a deep part of Tony Stark's character.

Everybody go see this movie. I cannot recommend it enough.

Favorite movie of the year by far, edging out Whedons other film Cabin in the Woods. Man deserves a damn medal for all the passion and creative energy he put into the film!

Also, loved the post-credits scene. That awkward moment...

the DC rights are complicated but if they wanted them they'd have them for it.
Superman I think is the biggest issue.

As big a Batman fan as I am I just can't imagine TDKR being more 'awesome' than this to the GA
or Superman either unless Darkseid shows up.

Id guarantee depending on the box-office this weekend that an extra scene is added to Superman and Justice League will be the next DC movie.

Regarding
the Chitauri:

Loki pretty much says he only intends them to beat Earth's military. Given that the Leviathans were very numerous and JARVIS says Iron Man will run out of power before surpassing their shields, it's very possible they would have been capable of steamrolling anything outside of nuclear weapons, and we don't know if they had something to counter that.

However, he counts on Hulk to destroy the Avengers, because he's smart enough to know Thor, Iron Man and the like could actually stop him. The reason the Chitauri end up being overwhelmed is because Hulk joins them and the team fucks his shit up before a good number of Chitauri get on Earth

Man, the movie was so amazing. It'll be hard for any superhero movie to top this one just because of how much they did right. It was a long movie but it never felt like it dragged.

I hope Thanos has the Infinity Gauntlet in the sequel, but I'm sure that would screw up so many things.

Amazing.

Quick question, as we were all laughing way too hard: what did the Hulk say after he
beat the shit out of Loki
?

We know
Odin has the Infinity Gauntlet on his vault. Would be really surprised if Thanos doesn't get it at the end of Avengers 2, to be The big bad of Avengers 3

Amazing.
