This was the best super hero movie I have ever seen! I'm not going to nit pick every little thing like the CGI and all. I had a blast during the entire movie. I literally had to hold myself back from screaming "This is fucking awesome!" during the middle of the movie.

He felt almost exactly like Ultimate Hawkeye to me, except for the family stuff.

Heh, that reminded me. Was I the only one who thought
"They left him his fingernails!"
when
he had been recaptured and was in restraints on the Helicarrier
?

So I did one of those trialpay things from Fandango (the stamps.com one not the crazy book clubs), so now I have a ticket for showing today for free. 3D version a block from my job. I'm only going to be able to stay for 90 minutes max, but what the hell. It's better than nothing (and no wasted gas) and it's free!

Yep. And the cool bow stuff made me want a Green Arrow movie, but this Hawkeye didn't feel like comics Hawkeye at all (the others were all pretty dead on).

Honestly, i dislike all of these bow using super heroes. They have as many different types of arrows as Batman has different things in his utility belt.

Do NOT recommend going and watching the first 90 minutes then leaving. You may well end up killing yourself as a result of the anticipation that follows.

Wait, clarify?

Why can you only stay for 90 minutes?? You won't even get to see the main battle.

That would be a serious mistake.

I know, but it's better than nothing!

Work.

Heh. Calling it now dude, you're gonna be late for work.

Painful, but this is just making me think about how excellent and deeply fun a Whedon-directed X-Men movie in the same universe would be. :( He wrote the comic storyline that X3's cure subplot was based on, he loves the characters.

Well, fair enough, I'm just saying he did echo a comics Hawkeye. :P

Screw that noise! Give Marvel the Xmen IP back and let them do an Onslaught movie.

The awesomeness could not be contained!

Screw what noise? That sounds perfect. It's just not going to happen. Especially that arc with any degree of accuracy :P
Fantastic Four, X-Men, and Avengers are all in separate film universes :'(

Movie was enjoyable, though I have to think that as someone who's not a big comic fan, there was a lot I missed. I went to one of the big 6 film marathons, which was a LOT more packed than I thought it would be.

Keep in mind these are the views of a non-comic person.

+ Dialogue. Thank you Joss. The lines were fun, sometimes clever. Good funny bits.
+ Interactions. Lots of great interaction between the characters
+ Well divided. I was worried this would be Iron Man 3. And while it did show that Iron Man won the "My Box Office was higher so I get more scenes" award, he didn't monopolize the film.
+ Phil :)

+/- Loki. I like this character, but think he has been built up all wrong. "Thor" never really decided if they were making him cartoon super villain, or misguided child. This movie just continued the trend. Tom Hiddleston is fantastic though.
+/- The Hulk. I missed Norton, especially going to one of the big marathons and getting to see Norton again in the role. New guys did fine, but I still missed Norton.

-Nick Fury. He's been built up all this time as a bad ass, and he does nothing but look silly about to try and shoot and F22 with a pistol. I expected him to have some type of decent action sequence.
-Hawkeye. Again, not a comic fan, so this character is totally foreign to me. Guy who's usefulness is limited by his quiver capacity... right. Didn't help that he was "absent" half the film.
-Alien/cyborg whatever force. Totally forgettable as villains. They never really felt menacing, just something for the heroes to beat up.
-3D Maybe it was my theater, but i've never been bugged by ghosting so badly before. I wish the marathon I went to had a 2D option.
-Phil
seriously, fuck you movie :(

Great movie, BUT I felt like the first hour and a half was all really slow and just set up for the rest of the film where shit got crazy. Some decent action bits at the start and one liners too, but the last 40 minutes or so was where the movie hit its stride and becomes awesome.

I thought Iron Man was going to steal the show, but in the end Hulk was the best part. Poor Ed Norton really dropped the ball to not want to keep the role.

My favorite part was when
Banner said, "My secret is...I'm always angry." Turns into the Hulk and just busts that giant flying Skrull carrier.
I got goose bumps. :D

Edit: Question!

Was the guy Loki talked to at the start of the movie
Super Skrull? Or was he a minion and the guy he was referring to Super Skrull?

I thought Norton was terrible as Banner. Mark Ruffalo is easily the best yet for me.

As a couple people have asked:

- The forest fight sequence was Weta's.
- A large majority of New York City was completely CG/digital, and is one of the largest digital sets we've ever done.
- All of Hawkeye's arrows (including the ones in the quiver) and the bow string itself are all CG.

Some Questions a week after watching the movie

1. How did Thor come back to earth after the bridge was broken
2. How did Hulk go from attacking everyone including Black Widow & Thor to taking orders from Captain America
3. Why did Thor look under-powered compared to his own movie especially in the final battle

1. Something about dark matter. I think it was Diplot Necessitum

Seeing it later today. Just hoping that I'm able to enjoy this a lot more than past Marvel movies. I'm very open minded and will enjoy something on its own basis. I've just felt that most of the movies have been pretty empty and without even much in the way of good action scenes. I didn't think Iron Man 2 had a lick of good action and Thor's action was very short lived.

gonna catch it this afternoon. Glad to hear all the positive reactions.

I could have lived with positive reactions like those we had for Cap and Thor. But the critics seem to be loving it. Didn't think for a moment it would be this highly rated.

3. Why did Thor look under-powered compared to his own movie especially in the final battle

1. Loki mentions it when Thor abducts him. Basically, Odin expended a lot of energy to transpot Thor to Earth, and they can't return to Asgard without the power of the tesseract.
2. The second transformation was one which Banner induced himself, whereas the first was involuntary. Apparently, this was covered in The Incredible Hulk, though I remember very little of that movie.
3. Guh? He fried half the Chitauri army, and smashed up anything that wasn't Hulk with ease.

Am I the only one who thought
Phil's death scene was awkward as hell? I really liked his character, but I'm going to be honest, it made me want to laugh because it seemed awkward as hell

Saw this at midnight and it is definitely my favorite Marvel movie right now.

Fights were so fun to watch, loved many of the character interactions and the bits of Whedon touches that remind me why I love his stuff.

Oh and post-credit scene was and is my favorite of all time now. Gonna watch again with my cousin on Saturday hopefully.

Um, holy shit? That's incredible.

3. Why did Thor look under-powered compared to his own movie especially in the final battle
1. At great personal expenditure, Odin used magic to send Thor to earth one-way (no return strategy) when they realized the Tessaract was acting up
2. When Banner is attempting to resist the transformation and fails, he loses all control and essential goes berserk. When he transforms willingly, he has a measure of control and can converse, strategize, and sometimes follow orders
3. Just don't really agree with your premise. He doesn't fight anything nearly as challenging in Thor besides the Destroyer.

edit: d'oh completely beaten.

I've liked all the Marvel movies so far...

The gap in quality between any individual one of them and this film is quite, quite large.

It's kind of been the purpose of the guy from day 1 to be awkward in everything.

Do think it's hilarious that Coulson got better action moments in this film than Jackson did.

I love Norton and I agree.

He didn't fit.
I wouldn't have agreed at all until seeing this movie, but spot on. Norton is one of my favorite actors. But Ruffalo is not only better as Banner, he's perfect. He just nails him down. Most impressively, you can buy that he's both one of the smartest people in the Marvel universe and the actual human who turns into the Hulk (a lack of the latter being one of my numerous big issues with the first Hulk film by Ang Lee).

Some of my favorite scenes are the
"Stark and Banner clearly outclass us all intelligence-wise"
exchanges. You can tell Ruffalo and RDJ are just having a goddamn blast with it.

I just read the story about Jackson blasted some critic who dared to point out that he was pretty much useless in this film...

Maybe I should back down...

It was the opposite for me. I had a hard time buying the guy as an intellectual. The look was just all off for me.

Ruffalo was great. Norton was OK (which is below his usual standard).
Indeed, I found his performance competent but not outstanding (the role actually didn't seem to demand much of him). Ruffalo straight up shines as does his CGI counterpart.

edit: They need to hook my man Fury up with some gadgets. He should have some tricks up his sleeve when the shit hits the fan.

So just wait and see it later. Who watches part of a movie in the theater?
Someone who doesn't have to pay anything to see it. I also wanted to see how the 3D quality is, and I know my wife doesn't want to see it in 3D.

No, actually it's not better than nothing. It sounds like a really dumb idea.
I dunno I often watch movies for the first times in part (as a function of time free) and it's never been a huge issue.

To add to the why does
Hulk go loco crazy one transformation, and instead be controlled the second, it's because the first one was done since the Hulk inside felt Banner was in danger and had to lash out immediately to stop anything around him that was a threat. To add to that the transformation happened right after Banner himself was pissed at all of them for the lies and the bull shit. Hence why he couldn't control it and went ape shit.

Can someone please tell me all I missed int he credits after credits?

It'll probably be worth it if you haven't seen the Prometheus trailer in 3D yet. You might be better off just watching the trailers and then leaving for lunch, though, if you're not going to sit through the entire movie.

The 3D in this film is crap. Worst ghosting problems I have ever seen.

Indeed, well said and this fully meshes with standards set in the comics. His facial expressions alone during the two different sequences were so distinct. Incredible job by the effects studios on him- a true character, not just a green human-shaped graphic.

First:
they're in space and OMFG ITS THANOS IM SORRY I CANT EVEN STAY CALM
Second:
one of the best awkward silences in cinematic history as the Avengers eat some shaowarma.

Not accurate- perhaps it's highly dependent on the angle of your seat?

The 3D added nothing to the experience for me, but I essentially forgot about it by the time the movie started rolling (last few trailers were in 3D too).

Prometheus 3D was amazing. Originally, I was a bit apprehensive about wanting to watch that in 3D, but after seeing the new trailer I was blown away.
