Am I the only one who thought it was odd that Spider-Man wasn't in the mix? Marvel really fucked up selling the Spider-Man rights to Sony. I mean the climax of the movie took place in New York City for fucks sake. I guess we can just pretend that the movie takes place before Peter Parker got bit by the spider or something.

Movie of the forever.

WAT

Bob bet with me (one month avatar) that Avengers wont cross 890M WW. Dude is in for some abuse.

I doubt it will do this much. Dark Shadow is coming out this week starring Johnny fucking Depp, and MIB3 comes 2 weeks later starring Will Fucking Smith. Both are huge internationally and could take a chunk out of the Avengers WW BO.

I think it would have been nice to have Tobey Maguire (for the burn) or Andrew Garfield (to hype new movie) be in one shot real quick snapping photos. Just imply that it is Peter Parker, but not say it was him. They just happen to get an actor that played Spider Man to play a photographer. Kind of a workaround and tease at the same time.

For what it's worth, people who track movies for a living are saying that 1B is in the bag now.

I know! And then we get to see more Ruffalo and RDJ stuff together. Those two worked so well together in the movie.

Loved how no one was responding to Stark's talking until Banner chimed in and then Stark was happy to find another brain in the group.

This! Their chemistry and banter was great. I could easily watch a movie that had just the two of them.

175 seems a pipe dream if the midnight take is any indication. 155 is what I say.
What? No. If anything, these midnight numbers indicate we're looking at a weekend above $175m. Midnights for Marvel films have routinely accounted for less than 10% of the total opening weekend, and while I don't know if that'll be entirely the case here, I'd bet on it being close.

Disney is slowly reclaiming all of the Marvel intellectual properties.

It will take some time, especially for X-Men because fox has a death grip on it.

What are the terms of the deal?

Dont hold me to this but I think Fox will retain rights as long as they are working on a film. It essentially means that as long as they are churning out an X-Men flick they hold it.

First class was good but I'm in the camp that feels like Disney is one of the best things that has ever happened to Marvel. As such I would like to see them having full control.

It actually helped Marvel get out of bankruptcy by selling the Spider-Man movie rights to Sony and the X-Men/FF rights to Fox. Although, I wonder how a Marvel-helmed Spider-Man movie would come out.

Other than the fact we'll never get a team-up movie with them, I'm not too sad about where the Spider-man and X-Men movie rights ended up because I actually like most of those movies. Fantastic Four on the other hand :-(

Saw the midnight showing and, as expected, I absolutely loved it.

A friend of mine put it best, this isn't a comic book adaptation, it's basically the comic book on screen. There are no compromises made with Avengers that you see with most other Super Hero films. Nothing was done to make it "non-comic book fan" friendly. Whedon never pulled back and let comic book story telling and action rule. The great part is, it's working with audiences. Comic book fans and non-comic book fans alike. It's good to see someone not hold back on a comic book flick.

Not sure why people are disappointed by Cap. I thought he was great in this. Played his role in the team perfectly.

Saw it last night. I really enjoyed it, especially Hulk. Easily the best Hulk ever on the big screen.

The theater erupted when
Loki went on about being a god, and then Hulk just destroyed him
.

That said, rocky fucking start. I was not feeling this movie at all until
Thor showed up and the Avengers actually got together
.

What was the last big Will Smith movie? Is that guy still a star?

I think Dark Shadows will do well but I don't see it making a huge dent in The Avengers.

My wife and I watched it the day before seeing The Avengers, and we both liked it quite a bit. I'd rank it before Thor and Hulk.

I'd put it on the same level as Hulk and only slightly worse than Thor.

IM1>Avengers>>>IM2>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Thor>CA=Hulk

The beginning is really slow. All the potential in the world for the next movie to be balls to the wall from beginning to end.

It's going to easily surpass $500 million this weekend and have a real shot at $600 million. It's going to hit $890 million unless it does one of the worst tank jobs in recent times.

The alien army was really pointless. Absolutely no resistance on their part, they didn't even put up a fight. I wish we had the characters combining their abilities more as we saw
Cap and Iron Man do with the repulsors and shield deflecting them
. That scene, although a few seconds long, was the best fight scene in the entire film

Next year will be Iron Man 3 followed by Thor 2, and then Captain America 2 in 2014. Those are the confirmed ones. They will be confirming the second 2014 film in the coming months I believe.

Huh, they haven't even started filming IM3 or T2, they better hurry it up. :P

IM2 was horrible. It was basically like Transformers 3, no hint of any emotion.

What?

I guess you just completely didn't buy into Stark dealing with his own mortality and coming to terms with issues he had with his father. The alienation of all his friends?

The problem with IM2 is that the villain was a throwaway.

The point of the army was to give The Avengers something to wreck and show off how awesome they are as a team. Beyond that, they were pretty weak ass. The real villain was Loki.

Yeah it was literally just a "let's see how many toys we can sell" action set piece. Could have been more, but I'm not complaining.

It'll be interesting to see if
they have Thanos just completely wreck them in the early going. I hope so, he's pretty much the baddest of the bad in the Marvel Universe.

And then
the film ends 20 minutes in, then another film begins which is a reboot of the Avengers universe, starring Shia as Cap and Tyler Perry as Nick Fury

I'd say:

The Avengers
Iron Man
Iron Man 2
Captain America
Thor
Incredible Hulk

With Hulk being the only one I didn't really enjoy that much.

"Where the real money from the movie is made!"

My theatre did the same. One IMAX 3D screening at midnight. Completely sold out. They even had to bring in a couple chairs from the dining area because they oversold the tickets. I don't know if they would have sold out two midnight showings, but surely their was more demand than what they were supplying.

What a dumb theatre.....

My theatre had 4 - 12:01 showings with one in digital 3d and one in imax 3d and then 3 12:15 showings and 3 12:30 showings. Yea...my theatre was packed
