FUCKING HULK!!!!!! SMASHING ALL OVER MY FACE11111111!

fucking Thanos!

I loved everything about the movie. Is it fair to assume this was the same director or writer that did Thor? Because it had the same balance of action, story and well-timed comedy.

Not the same director at all.

I though Thor was good, but fell flat on the comedy, and had an incredibly slow 2nd act.

As far as I know, Joss had nothing to do with that movie. So no.

There IS a second scene at the very end of the credits. Wasn't on preview screenings or international prints, but it is there. So don't leave after the first! It's awesome.

He did some uncredited script doctoring on both Thor and Captain America.

Just got back. This movie was a ton of fun. I sat there, and was smiling half the time. I really have no complaints, and I was hoping for more. I'm going to end up watching it again really soon, probably. Also, DAT HUMOUR.

"Loki is Asgardian and my brother."

"He killed 85 people."

"He's adopted."

"Hulk? Smash."

"Are you an alien?"

"No."

"You have a condition..."

Some great lines in this movie, that's for sure.

Again, stay through the credits!

The final scene isn't as pants-shitting awesome as the one in the middle of the credits, but it's funny especially after a line Iron Man says towards the end of the movie.

oh, was that
the restaurant he was asking about?

and again,
THANOS!!!! Talk about upping the ante. It really gets no bigger than Thanos in all the villians of Marvel that haven't already been used. They're gonna need to introduce some new characters. These Avengers will need help. Unless they just let Hulk do everything...which he could.

BO Update;
Nikkie Finke said:
Rival studios tell me they expect Marvel’s The Avengers from Disney to open to $67M (within a range of $60M and $70M) today and around $160M (within a range of $157M-$165M) its first weekend in North America. No records going down yet. More later.

I actually preferred Thor to Avengers. Just felt it had more emotion and story. Avengers, whilst awesome, was far too heavy handed in action for me, at least in the last third anyway.

Loki is such a shit villain. Surprised it took that many super heroes to defeat his sorry ass.
The very first issue of Avengers comics says hi.

Could this potentially mean the infinity gauntlet?
No. It would require too many heroes. That miniseries basically required the hand of God (Sentinel) and other beings significantly more powerful than any of the Avengers (with respect to Hulk who is probably top 5 in all of the Marvel Universe).

Potentially? Try "definitely".
They already have the prop.
I'll believe it when I see it. It took the entire fucking Marvel Universe to handle that situation. They can't introduce enough characters to make that sensible.

I really enjoyed Thor. Only complaint I have about it is his exile didn't feel like one. The events in the movie looks like it took a total of a whole weekend. Thor going from asshole to Good Guy Thor felt a little too quick. I guess Asgard time passes faster than Earth time.

I agree. They could have made the illusion of time pass better and longer. Maybe by starting a family with Jane or something. idk.

Everything else was badass.

I agree. Both Cap and Thor suffered from weak endings but what they managed to do well, and better than Avengers, was to actually deliver a more coherent plot and evoke emotion. Thor holding onto Loki at the end of the movie (not the Avengers) and scrawny Rogers throwing himself onto the grenade to protect the others; those two scenes and more iconic and poignant to these individuals than anything we see in the Avengers. In fact, the best thing about the new movie is the comedy!

Just got out from seeing it. Was a fun time and the crowd made it a great time. Good comedic timing too. One question, when
Hulk destroyed Loki
the crowd went nuts. It looked like he said something but I couldn't hear it. Did he?

Agreed. It was the comedy that glued Avengers together. Otherwise it would have been a much more vapid and brain dead affair. Thor had the father son thing, rise to maturity, brother relationship, mini romance, Loki's identity crisis and all these other little mini elements that gave it a more human and warming touch. Just felt like it had a bit more emotional clout.

I think Avengers tried that too, with the whole Hawkeye Black Widow relationship, the red ledger, Hulks inner battles etc. But they'd either been done already or just weren't fleshed out enough to matter much. I guess that's the problem you face when you have to fit so many characters in to one film. I suppose on that basis they did a stellar job.

Oh, yeah, I got confused. Er, why the hell did they make the prop then? Just to make Comic-Con nerds jizz themselves? Weird
There's a lot of shit in Odin's Vault that has no purpose other than being there, yet have whole stories behind them in the comics. So yes, it's possible that it was just there for the sake of it, at the time.

I still think it'll definitely come up in the sequel. If not in Thor 2.

Where was it? In the Asgardian Vault?

Nothing wrong with making the prop. I just...If he gets his hands on that...shit would be ridiculous. It would make him arguably the most powerful force in the universe. He'd truly be for most intents and purposes unstoppable unless the entire universe stop to deal with him, as they did in the comic series.

I still have that series in a box somewhere, and I don't remember how it went...but I know everyone that had working arms and legs was involved...and the shit would be too epic for the next movie. Maybe a couple of sequels down the line. :-)

Nah. If you've read that comic series, you know that's not going to happen anytime soon if ever.

Whedon hit a home run. Pretty much in a different league altogether from Marvel's other films. If Joss doesn't stay on for the sequel, I'll be massively disappointed.

I hope they take a ballsy approach and try to actually hold back on the scale a bit, while upping the stakes in a more emotionally driven way. Kind of an Empire Strikes Back approach. If they try to top The Avengers' final act in terms of scope, they're going to fail.

That's irrelevant. This is a movie series, we're not going to get to it by Avengers #6 just to pay tribute to the comic continuity. It can happen in the sequel. Perhaps not as the focal point, but included.

Hulk's not more powerful than Thor though. In fact if they want to have some scary believable villains, they'd have to be more powerful than Thor, who obviously is the strongest Avenger.

Loved the movie, but missed the second hidden scene. Too bad the link's been removed by disney.

Would have been cool if...

Loki was conspiring with Red Skull, and later in the movie, he could have taunted Cap with a line like "By the way, the Red Skull sends his regards"

boss

Chris Evans looked small as shit in this. Seems he lost a lot of muscle since Capt America

I'll attribute that to the costume. His original one was more loose and bulky than his Avengers one. I'm hoping they make a costume that falls in between for the Cap sequel.

He looked the same size to me. The difference is, in this film he's constantly standing next to an Asgardian god and the Hulk. Anyone would like small in comparison.

Another awesome moment:
Iron Man doing Shakespeare at the park... fucking LOL.

I missed the very last credits scene, balls.

I thought Loki really stole the show. I felt that Hiddleston's performance was comparable to Ledger's Joker. Just a fascinating character to watch.

...But every character was so cool. Thor, Captain America, Iron Man, and Hulk were probably all better in this movie than their own movies.

Credit then, I guess, goes to Whedon who really understood these characters and their attitudes and didn't let anyone get lost in the fold. He is a comic book writer and fan, so I can't imagine anyone being more qualified to pull that movie off.

...And the scene where the camera circles the Avengers was so much more effective than I imagined it would be having seen it in the commercials. It was preceded by an awesome scene with Hulk and followed by an awesome scene of Rogers giving out orders. Wow.

And the part where he
headbutts Thor, and then Thor headbutts him back throwing him several feet with a dent on his head piece

He had a 'Wut' look lol

I didn't like Cap's costume the whole head piece thing didn't seem right. One shot in the head he would have died. At least give the man a helmet.

What? I think you may be out of your element now.

It won't happen and it won't happen for several reasons already discussed. If you'd like to hope it happens, don't let me stop you. Won't change the fact that it won't happen. There are plenty of story lines that feature him that have nothing to do with that item.

The individual movies should have more emotional resonance considering they only consist of one main character with the whole screentime devoted to developing that character. What I expected from an ensemble superhero movie like the Avengers is good action and good comedy, and it sure delivered that twice over.

Couldn't find much enjoyment out of this. What was with the
aliens from space as enemies.
They were lame!

Seems like I'm the only person who didn't like it.

Joss. Motherhumping. Whedon. You magnificent son of a bitch. You just made the best superhero movie I've ever seen. Yes, better than SM2 and Batman Begins. You can disagree with me, but like it or not, this movie is in the conversation.

Sweet Jesus on a bicycle, this movie is awesome! I can't believe as hyped as I was, it still delivered!

The pacing was exceptional, the dialogue pitch perfect, and the action was phenomenal.

Cap, Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, Black Widow, and Hawkeye just lit up the goddamn screen for 2+ hours! I am bouncing off the walls!

Agree with all of that. This movie was spectacular. When
hulk went IN on Liki
I damn near wanted to stand up and remain standing until the film ended. lol

For those who haven't seen it yet, I can't recommend IMAX enough. See it with the sound the way it was meant to be experienced.
