Chris Evans looked small as shit in this. Seems he lost a lot of muscle since Capt America
Keeping that much muscle for extended periods of time is hard as shit. The scene in Cap when he first comes out after the serum is the biggest he ever was, and ever since he's slimmed down a bit. The costume he wore in the rest of the movie made it hard to notice, though.

I don't really mind a lean Captain America. Dude looks fine.

I've never seen that much applause in a movie before. They applauded the opening, the applauded each huge moment, and they applauded the end. This was a diverse bunch of people going apeshit over a superhero movie. The WOM on this is going to be ridiculous.

Well Hulk did use Thor's hammer in space and left Thor stranded on the fucking moon if I recall correctly.

Hulk does whatever Hulk wants to do. World War Hulk beat most of what Marvel through at him. Multiple X-Men teams, New Avengers, Mighty Avengers, Fantastic Four, Ghost Rider, etc.

Fuck, he even fought SENTRY to a draw...and we know Sentry is like #3 on the list of most powerful heroes in the Marvel Universe. Thor is up there on the hierarchy, but he's not fucking with a really angry Hulk. Just about nobody is.

Saw it in IMAX 3D. Wholly agree.

3D not necessary, mind you.
yea, I saw it in 3D and wish I could have just seen it in IMAX.

Either way, I'll be going to see it again, just for those Hulk scenes. The Hulk scenes in this movie basically redeemed the last 2 Hulk movies single-handedly. So good. :D

Absolutely loved it, so many amazing moments and the dialogue was just perfect. Marvel is going to have a hell of a hard time trying to top this.

I have a question regarding one scene, as someone who's not familiar with some of the marvel superhero lore
Why was Captain America's shield able to repel Thor's hammer? I thought the shield was manmade?

Crowd went absolutely nuts over the
puny god
scene. I thought it started a little slow but that last act especially was incredible. And the
helicarrier
was very cool. Hulk definitely stole the show.

Cap's shield is made from Vibranium, a super rare fictional metal that can repel any force. Even Mjolnir.

What? I think you may be out of your element now.

It won't happen and it won't happen for several reasons already discussed. If you'd like to hope it happens, don't let me stop you. Won't change the fact that it won't happen. There are plenty of story lines that feature him that have nothing to do with that item.

Actually, I can see it happening. They don't need to remain 100% faithful to the comics you know. Plus, I could see them going Empire Strikes back in direction and have him actually win (momentarily) at the end of film in order to set up when the heroes are finally victorious in Avengers 3. This would also allow them more leeway to do films not with IM/Thor/Cap in between A2 and A3.

The shield is man-made but out of an incredibly rare (alien?) metal that is super strong.

Does anyone else feel that it's tragic that none of these Marvel cross-over movies will ever feature an X-Man or X-Men team? or Spiderman?

I could have seen Cyclops, Wolverine, Storm and Rogue going HAM in cameo appearances at the end of this movie. :(

I can't disagree at all. BUT...again, there are a ton of storylines with him in it. They don't need to make their next move be one about the second or 3rd most powerful weapon in the Marvel universe so soon. Unless it's about him trying to get it and the Avengers stopping him from doing so. That'd be cool with me. But again, there are so many plot lines that they could use...

Yeah it sucks a lot. This is Spider-Man's city would have been awesome seeing him pop up for a second. At least have the Daily Bugle in it.

I've made my peace with it. We really shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth. It's amazing that Marvel was able to pull this off as is.

Oh I completely agree. The character isn't limited just to that storyline. I am just saying it -is- feasibly possible and you shouldn't discount the idea that it could happen. Plus while I am sure Disney would love to keep Avengers movies pumping out for ages the reality is these actors are all only under contract for a certain amount of time and I have no idea when they are up and eventually they would get too old for their roles anyways. Not anytime soon mind you but right now The Avengers is clearly intended to be a trilogy of films (Built upon other single films, duopolies, and trilogies). Avengers 4+ may some day happen but I am not going to assume anything past 3 for now. With that in mind I could see them not really wanting to hold back anything.

Thor is stronger just going by the movies, I don't read the comics anyway and have no interest in discussing what happens there.

Fair enough.

He's not more powerful in the comics. Thor is up there really fucking high...but there are few beings touching a really angry Hulk. Hulk just gets angier and stronger...and stronger and angrier. It's an endless reservoir that he can tap into.

In the comics, he has a lot of really good fights though. He never instantly hits level 9,000. It's a slow build up. Except in the World War Hulk storyline.

I can't disagree at all. It will be interesting to see what they do.

The only thing that I feel can be said for certain is that The Avengers 2 will be made. They're about to make stupid money off this movie. As has been said, it's the best Marvel superhero movie yet, by a country mile. It's in some rare air.

Whedon hit a home run. Pretty much in a different league altogether from Marvel's other films. If Joss doesn't stay on for the sequel, I'll be massively disappointed.

I hope they take a ballsy approach and try to actually hold back on the scale a bit, while upping the stakes in a more emotionally driven way. Kind of an Empire Strikes Back approach. If they try to top The Avengers' final act in terms of scope, they're going to fail.

If they follow through on that mid credits scene, it better top the end of this movie's scope. It will be fucking epic. The problem with that is
if they use Thanos in the second movie, they have nowhere to go but down with the threat level.
Sure, they could do some smaller, more intimate villains and go for the emotional angle, but for sheer scale
Thanos is about as big as it gets. Unless they go for Galactus. If Marvel ever gets him back.
But damn I would love for Marvel to get Doctor Doom back and give us the Doom we deserve.

But for Avengers villains, I NEED Ultron as a villain in an Avengers movie. That is a villain that could have huge stakes, but also a very personal motivation to take him down.

Side bonus: if we get Ultron, we get Vision. Everyone wins.

What? I think you may be out of your element now.

Thor may be able to hold his own with Hulk for a while, but the longer the fight goes on, the less it is in Thor's favor. Because if the fight goes on long enough, Hulk will be so pissed he will send Thor back to the Asgard realm with a single punch.
Slightly exaggerated

Fuck. I need to see this movie again. I felt like a kid again watching it. I need to see it many more times before I call it best super hero movie. But fuck...so good.

Joss Whedon, I may still hate most of your work and think you are overrated, but you delivered the comic book movie of my childhood dreams with this film.

I watched it ETX 3D. It really isn't even 3D, it seems like only the blur part was being 3D'd while the characters weren't really.

I couldn't tell...so tried taking out glass, most of wasn't really 3D.

Missed the during and post credit scenes :( my friend insisted we should leave right when credits roll

that's pretty much it. you don't defeat the Hulk; you hope to contain him. and you hope to do it fast...because later, containment won't be an option either. I've never been a fan of Hulk, but I know enough to know he's not the one to fucks with.

I still feel giddy myself. Not a feeling I've had after watching a movie in a long time.

My personal theory is Ultron will be setup in the Ant-Man movie in order for Guardians of the Galaxy to be an adaptation of Annihilation: Conquest..of course I wouldn't mind him showing up in A2 or A3 in between Ant-Man and GotG. We'll see what they do though.

As expected, Hulk was the best thing about the movie.

It was good. Nothing groundbreaking at all, but a very enjoyable ride, especially for a Marvel fan. It seemed very faithful to the source material to me.

As for the ending
Thanos?

Just got back from a 3D showing (wah wah). Overall the 3D was pretty shitty; it made the action scenes very hard to follow, and my eyes crossed more than a few times which was very disorienting. I would like to see the film again in 2D so I could tell what was actually happening. lol

Hulk was definitely the best part. Really fun character; he definitely stole the show. The crowd was fairly tame throughout, but every time the Hulk did something cool the theater would roar with cheers and laughter. It was pretty awesome.

Gripes:

I thought the beginning/middle was a pretty poorly paced, and I wish that the
enemies weren't so random/generic. The moment Tony threw the nuke at their spaceship, they all deactivated, so I'm assuming they were like robots or something? (very Phantom Menace-y haha)

As for the ending
Thanos?

why yes.

top-tier Marvel badass. They'll need more help to deal with him.

Yessir. A-la Independence Day.

Seriously. I have been on a delirious nerd high all day after that midnight screening. And I want to see it again this weekend so I can see it with a huge crowd again. The crowd screaming and cheering at things is half the fun.

I am still in awe at how perfectly this all came together. A coworker that came to the movie who has never read a comic and only saw Iron Man 1 loved it. This movie made her want to read the books now. If anything, just for
dat Thanos

Agree with all of that. This movie was spectacular. When
hulk went IN on Liki
I damn near wanted to stand up and remain standing until the film ended. lol

For those who haven't seen it yet, I can't recommend IMAX enough. See it with the sound the way it was meant to be experienced.

Agreed. IMAX was incredible.

I hate my local LieMAX because the screen is smaller than some of the other auditoriums (like the one I saw in 2D last night), and the 3D glasses hurt after a while. But the sound is fucking nuts in there. I am slightly tempted to try the LieMAX this weekend.

Eh, will most likely be picky and pick the best matinee on Sunday in 2D.

Probably answered already, but is there an after credits scene?

Yes. Mid credits scene, and after credits scene (that is US only).

Mods should change the title to reflect that there is an after credits scene. Would help a bunch for people jumping into the thread late.

why yes.

top-tier Marvel badass. They'll need more help to deal with him.

Awesome.

Surprised how much I laughed at this. The
Hulk vs Loki
and
Galaga
moments got me and the entirely crowd for that matter. Great stuff.

Watching the first Iron Man again on FX right now.

....
Coulson. :(

Imax 3D wasn't bad but wasn't extraordinary, but it did have 1 great scene. The interrogation scene with loki, hot damn!

Just got back from seeing this with my wife. It was just about the most fun I've had at the movies in a long, long time. Hulk (and Ruffalo) stole the whole damn movie. The
puny God
line was awesome, but my favorite moment was
after he and Thor had just taken down a whatever, and were momentarily basking in their achievement, and Hulk looks over and sees Thor and just instinctively punches the shit out of him.
Hulk has never been my favorite character, but I hope they give Ruffalo a shot at a Hulk feature film.

Thor is stronger just going by the movies

Which is why Thor
needed both hands just to stave off one fist from Hulk? He hit Hulk with Mjollnir to the face and it just made him angrier and stronger. Thor was getting his ass handed to him before the fighter jet bailed him out, all he could do was try to contain the Hulk long enough to get him off the helicarrier. Thor and Loki went at it for a good few minutes, Loki lasted a couple seconds before Hulk smashed.
The difference in strength is pretty clearly established. Hulk is the strongest there is. No puny God can match him.

I saw the midnight showing last night and I must say I thought it was great. Going into it my biggest concern, like a couple others had mentioned is that Iron Man / RDJ would steal the spotlight making it seem more like Iron Man 3 but I was glad to see that everyone shared the spotlight pretty well. They all have their own personalities and it was a lot of fun seeing them all come together and interact after watching all of their solo movies.

I kinda wish they would have made a separate movie before this came out that told the story of black widow and hawk eye and how they became so close etc. granted I know it wouldn't have made as much money as the others, but if it had a good story to it then it still would have been interesting to see and give more context for this movie like how the fuck hawk eye can shoot so well.

Being a hulk fanboy I was definitely satisfied with him in this movie though I thought there was 1 or 2 missed opportunities with him, like the part where
the aliens decided to team up and a group of them were shooting the hulk, I thought that was a great part to show how the angrier he gets the more powerful he gets so he could have done something to fuck their day up, but instead it just cut away to another scene and never even showed how he got out of that situation

I thought Mark Ruffalo did a great job as banner. Going in I wished they had got Norton just for consistency sake, but after seeing Ruffalo as Banner I don't miss him. To me Ruffalo is more believable as a scientist and looks/fits the part better, I would love for them to make another Hulk solo movie with him and more screen time with the Hulk himself.

probably my biggest gripe about the movie is that
the alien army seemed pretty weak, they should'a had those things pouring out of the portal and utilized thor's abilities more to take them out, or something along those lines
but it wasnt enough to ruin anything for me

im going to have to say from best to worst for me it goes:

1. avengers
2. iron man 1
3. thor+newer hulk tied
4. iron man 2 + captain america tied

I would have loved this movie 5 years ago, as is, I just had a good time. I think I might prefer Iron Man 1, oddly enough. Lots of great moments though, just didn't quite come together for me as a whole to just be outright excited and giddy. I really quite enjoyed Mark Ruffalo though, which surprised me.

Yes!
How, even though it was rather quick for him to gain control over Hulk, they indicated he still had rage issues when he smashed Thor. Would have felt just awkward watching him be completely docile after being unleashed.

1. Avengers
2. Iron Man
3. Captain America
4. Thor
5. Incredible Hulk
6. Iron Man 2

only ranking is only

Joss Whedon should be the only person writing comic book movies from now on. He fucking nailed it. My only gripe was
Hawkeye being hypnotised for half the movie.

Was fantastic. You could tell a lot of love went into it. Loved everyone's characters and even Scarjo was pretty decent (thought she might be the weak link, her and Hawk anyways) but it felt like Joss gave each Avenger some great scenes to shine.

My crowd lost it when
Hulk punch Thor after taking down that big baddie.

The only negatives I have was the I felt like the CG overloaded my brain at the end. Still, it was great to have the camera stay on the action for a good 3 seconds or so without being all spastic. Whedon is the man.
