Makes sense. I really liked all the little things Tony said in this movie. Especially the
How does Fury see both these screens when he has only one eye

Haha, same here. I also caught that as a subtle joke about 3D movies, but that's probably just me.

The theater here thankfully decided to add 2d showings, so I will be able to see it. I'm debating on going to the screening of Captain America that the library is doing tomorrow (since I haven't seen that), or just going to see The Avengers instead.

Captain America was a solid movie- Avengers is better though. If you're interested in some of the backstory on the plot device that Avengers revolves around, watching Captain America couldn't hurt (since this is where it was introduced.)

as for funny moments- the Hulk ones were brilliant (you know the ones) but the throw away line by Iron Man calling Hawkeye "Legolas" really sent the fiancee into a giggle fit

Edit: oh, and the line where Cap is really proud of himself for understanding the wizard of Oz reference.

So let me ask you guys this. In 2014, Along with Cap 2, Marvel supposedly will release another film.

Most likely candidates:

Ant-Man
Dr. Strange
and Guardians of The Galaxy

Which one would you guys prefer to see?

Guardians of the Galaxy. for motherfucking Rocket Raccoon. F yeah

I would rather they get their butts in gear and Do "Heroes for Hire."
Michael Jai White as Luke Cage, please.

edit:

Ant-Man has always been a lame character, and will be tough to pull off in a film without it turning into Honey I shrunk the Kids. I prefer to keep him as a scientist rather than a superhero if they do get around to introducing him.
Dr. Strange could work- but that character doesn't really work well as a "hero" per se. The appeal has always been more in mysticism and crazy psychedelic exploration.
Guardians of the Galaxy might be a little too out there, and an ensemble film would waste a lot of time on origins- something Avengers very wisely avoided.

Guardians of the Galaxy. It would nicely set up Thanos. And for motherfucking Rocket Raccoon. F yeah

Oh god. if GOTG ever makes it out of pre-production. Rocket Raccoon better be left out. Fuck that shit. Just as bad as Howard the duck lol.

This. That whole cast is a tough sell, but talking anthropomorphic animals with an ACME arsenal? yeah, ok.
Avengers SEEMS to be using
the Ultimate Version of Thanos
anyway, so GOTG aren't even necessary to introduce him.

Please no Ant-man. He is just dull.
Dr.Strange could be interesting. But it'd have to be done really well.

I want Ant Man, but not in his own movie. Pym belongs as a supporting character much like Hawkeye and Black Widow. But I need Pym because I need Ultron.

And Dr. Strange could be both terrible and awesome. I remember reading a few years ago that Del Toro wanted to make a Dr. Strange movie and Neil Gaiman wanted to write it. If those two got together to do it it would be fucking epic as shit.

So, after all the hoopla, is this movie going to out-gross the dark knight?

Not a chance. It will probably top off at over 420 million though. That's what the experts are predicting. Who knows. With 3D surcharges and Imax and it might have a chance with inflation and everything.

I think Ant-Man could be pulled off as long as Marvel realizes how lame and ridiculous a live action Ant-Man would be. Keep it really tongue and cheek and self-aware. It could be fun.

Dr. Strange I feel would probably make for the best movie. He won't be joining the Avengers so it's really just about expanding the MCU.

Oh and if Luke Cage was ever meant to hit live-action, Terry Crews was born for it. haha

By the way, have you ever posted your impression of this film? I don't recall reading your review of the avengers on this thread. Would love to read it.

Trully last after credits scene
Well that was ... boring =P
Watch while it lasts

For the international crowd who didn't got this bonus scene
What the....when did this happen? All I saw was that evil guy at the end...*confused* - me in America.

Anyways, just got back from seeing this, twas AMAZING!! Will go see again, just not in 3D next time...

Hulk was literally my favorite character in the movie...
the line before Banner morphed into Hulk and full stomped the huge machine thing gave me chills the way they did it through and through. Other one is when he gave Loki a hilarious "SHUT THE FUCK UP!" beat down!

Of course, Starx never fails to crack me up.

Truly spoken like a man who hasn't watched Black Dynamite yet.

If we're talking possible lead ins to Avengers 2, Heroes for Hire works for two reasons- Luke Cage has been an avenger for a while now in mainstream marvel, and it's a poorly kept secret that Iron Man 2 is taking place at least partly in china with the mandarin as the villain- perfect opening to introduce Danny Rand.

Ant-Man, Dr. Strange, and GOTG are a lot harder to tie in to existing franchises.

None, give me a Hulk movie please.

that's what we all thought about Thor before the movie came out...

None, give me a Hulk movie please.

Ruffalo is signed for 6(!) films, so that's at least 2 hulk movies, maybe 3 more avengers (or avengers related) films.

that's what we all thought about Thor before the movie came out...

While i don't think that Ant-Man works as a standalone film at ALL...in what sense do you think Marvel/Disney was NOT happy with Thor? If they thought they could get an ant-man film made that was even half as successful as Thor, it would have been greenlit already.

That would be insanely awesome.

Short review: 2 and a half hour nerd boner. The theater could not contain my nerdgasm.

I am a very vocal detractor of Whedon and most of his work. (I like most of his story ideas, but despise his "dialogue" and many of this trademark things). But I have been saying for the last year or so he was the perfect person for this because he does well with ensembles and should deliver enough comic geek moments without putting a stylistic spin on it just to do it.

My hype for this movie was higher than anything I can remember besides the first Spider Man movie (but Whedon's involvement at all did diminish my hype some. But the notion of an Avengers movie was so strong it overpowered my Whedon hate), and it exceeded it in every possible way. I felt like a kid again when I first got into Avengers. Seeing all the ridiculous and crazy stuff only possible in a comic book brought to life PERFECTLY for the first time.

This was not trying to be some comment on society or tell a deeply personal story or anything like Dark Knight was trying to do. It was trying to kick our asses with spectacle and fun. It wanted to put the audience back to that child like glee of seeing the impossible and extraordinary happen on screen and good triumph over evil. And it fucking delivered. It went to 11, circled back around, and came back to 11 again.

I want more, and I want it now. I am glad that it seems the world is loving this as much as I did. This was one of the best theater going experiences I have had in years, and it should be experienced with a packed house of enthusiastic move goers. This film is not going to win any prestige Oscars (sound design and effects? Most definitely), nor is it going for prestige. It just wanted to entertain.

I am still riding the high 24 hours later and I need another fix. ASAP.

EDIT: And I totally called it weeks leading to the release. Proper title of the film is: HULK SMASH! Guest Starring The Avengers.

Wow. What a flick. Amazing.

Who the hell was the dude in the credits?

omg the sideways smash of Thor by Hulk was amazingly awesome. That and Banner's transformation/beatdown of the big flying beast. Bravo Whedon!! Well done!

agreed. and you might as well read that anyway, since there's zero chance Avengers 2 will have anything to do with the IG.

Even if Avengers 2 has nothing to do with
Why am I spoilering this?....Infinity Gauntlet
, it is still a badass comic and about as epic as it gets.

And that series also features what might be the single most badass moment Captain America has ever had.
Every other hero in the Marvel Universe is dead by Thanos's hand, except Cap. Cap walks up to him and tells him to give up. Like a fucking BOSS!

Just saw the Avengers.

First half was miserable.

Climax battle was better.

Pretty boring Okay movie.

Also, what the hell was with the 70 million attempts at "jokes."

They weren't all bad (just most), but come on, son.

This is exactly how I felt, and still feel is the case. I don't think there's ever been a superhero film that has been translated so well. These are superheros, in the flesh, being themselves. I felt so much glee watching this film, ridiculous.

This is Whedon's territory. He's clearly a fan, scratch that, a superfan for this stuff and he made all of us remember how awesome comicbooks are when they are what they are, and aren't compromised in any way.

I hope this means the everyone can stop going after the whole ''gritty'' superhero thing, and that just because it worked at one time doesn't mean it works with every franchise. Give me the comicbook characters as they are in the comics.

edit:
for the record. I wasn't really much a fan of the other marvel flicks, but this was just so outstanding.

Did anyone else think
Coulson wasn't really dead and they were saving him for some epic reveal at the end? The way he didn't get to finish his last line made it seem like a ploy that he was gonna wake up again at any minute for comedic effect. Then when we see the jet fighter pilot in the plane with the nuke, I thought it was Coulson at first. There's no way he stays dead though, not with them introducing him in the comics and the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon.

well...

I'm reasonably certain that death was meant to be real- the attack on the helicarrier loses substance and meaning without it. That being said, the movie DID go out of it's way to confirm that Life Model Decoys exist, so that Coulson could be easily retconned into being an LMD for future films.

Best superhero movie ever confirmed. I don't remember the last time I enjoyed myself in a theatrical setting like this. Whedon nailed this on the head. Great balance between the characters and cast, great jokes and one-liners, action, pacing, etc.

I don't even know if Dark Knight Rises will be able to live up to this.

Samuel L. Jackson in Die Hard: "Yeah, Zeus! As in, father of Apollo? Mt. Olympus? Don't f*ck with me or I'll shove a lightning bolt up your ass!"

Nick Fury from Assguard confirmed?

/jokepost

The cards also gave them the push but Fury took the cards from the locker.

But where'd the blood come from?! /SamL.Jack trollface

Did the
Skrull ships remind anyone else of Gears of War?

And I was out getting food earlier and passed by my local comic shop and was REALLY tempted to walk in and grab some
Thanos
books lol.......but I need to save some money right now so I avoided going in
