EGM: Final Fantasy Versus XIII a No Show at E3

Looks no different from BBS to me.
Looks like KH1 combat to me. That isn't a good thing in my books. BbS at least did something pretty neat with its combat style.

To be honest, I didn't care for Versus much prior to that trailer's release, and the combat in it didn't wow me over. I hope they improve on it.

What was the last game they announced more than 2 years before its release? They haven't really repeated that mistake in the last six years.

They have learned. In the past several years, they've done a very good job at having a short announcement to release date. XIII-2 had less than a year between being announced and released, and Dream Drop Distance was under two years.

It's just Versus from 2006 that's still languishing along, but they've learned their lessons from the XIII games.

True, but that's because they haven't announced any new console games at all. FFXIII-2 could only be released relatively fast because it could re-use a lot of assets and had help by tri-Ace. Let's wait and see how they are gonna handle FFXV.

You wouldn't know what BBS did that was neat if you haven't played it.

What they showed in that trailer was attacking and magic.

That's it, that's obviously not all there's going to be.

Do people still care about this? My interest in this was waning ever since FFXIII released, now I don't even care if it got canceled.

Not sure if EGM were supposed to say which games Square is showing at E3. E-mail clearly said not to post the invite online - which I'm assuming meant the games discussed as well. But yeah, it doesn't mention Versus XIII for appointments, but it is still very possible it will show up in some shape or form.

After playing, finishing, and platinuming Assassin's Creed II last week (and I enjoyed it far far more than the first... and I wish to experience the other games in the series now)

Isn't AC2 great? It improved on AC1 in just about every area, and the glyph puzzles, and the hidden stuff in them, were like an entire hidden game. (If you haven't already, Google for Irvine Tomoe's FAQ on those puzzles; excellent commentary.)

I like looking around at structures in games, and Versus' structures from the trailers seem pretty neat. I'd like to at least see the designs.

The way SE is going these days, they'll probably release a high-quality artbook after the game comes out, so hopefully it'll contain that kind of thing. Type-0's is great and really fills you in on the background (and that's one game that needs it). I wish they'd go back and make something like this for FFXII, sill (for me) SE's gold standard.

Personally I want it to be canceled so their resources goes elsewhere, which is why it would make me happy. My post wasn't a direct insult to anyone who is looking forward to this game. It's called an opinion.

One person can look forward to a game while other people can not criticize it's waste in resources and terrible development cycle? Your line of thinking is "funny" to me.

Never said anything about not criticizing it. Also never said anything about insulting anybody. Your initial post just reminded me of a similar thing that happened in the Bayonetta 2 thread where a few posters were celebrating it was "cancelled." If you had said what you said above, I would not have commented. :)

If Bayonetta 2 really got cancelled, people can look forward to a new IP by Kamiya. If Versus XIII get's cancelled, SE will make another FF game :/

At the very least I'm looking forward to Bayo 2.

Why exactly? 6 years of effort and money are a lot to throw away because some people are impatient.

There's a point where you should cut your losses. But I understand the need for Square to get this out, considering how much hype has been surrounding it.

Squeenix doing fuck all about Versus despite teasing us for six years now? WHAT A SHOCK. Did you guys also know it takes 24 hours for a day to pass?

I continue to lose hope for this company. Learn how to communicate with your fanbase.

They should just get Visual Works to make a feature film out of it. They really don't seem to give a shit about the actual gameplay, seeing how anytime they have talked about the game it's about the main character and story.

Going ahead and making a movie would shut us all up once and for all and give us an opportunity to laugh at Nomura's storytelling some more.

How many COD's and Assassin's Creed have been made since FF VERSUS XIII announcement, and how many more will be made bfeore Versus shows up is the real question

I seriously don't care anymore. I'm a Huge RPG fan and an even bigger Square fan, but they make terrible terrible products nowadays.

The quality is not there anymore. Vs13 is way off my radar.
I'm still surprised people care. How many times has this game been expected to be shown, then let you down, ask yourself. People don't do this to yourself.

I recently finished ME3 and Gears 3, that's two trilogies that were announced in the same period as Versus.

And look at all the new quality IP's that started after Versus and got at least one sequel released till now. It's a big list of quality stuff that Versus has to compete with.

I can definitely see Versus being high quality as many other IP's but then comparing the development cycles, it seems as they only work on this title when they have nothing else to do.

It's pretty sad that they and Gust have the most rpg output these days.

Well, gust makes pretty solid little niche games, the other two just churn out shit so it's not exactly shocking.

Squares releases are always all over the board though, they don't seem dedicated to anything or improving anything, just randomly throwing shit at the wall, remakes/ports and whatever they can do to exploit uematsus back catalogue.

We need a list along the lines of the classic 'things that happened whilst DNF was in development' list.

This really puts things in perspective. Wow.

Blizzard announced and released (or soon will release) StarCraft II, Diablo III (after 10+ years) and 4 WoW expansions since Versus XIII was announced. :P

I'd certainly hope there's more to combat than that.

You didn't play BbS? You should! It's one of the few KH games I like because of D-Links/Focus/decks, and playing on harder modes makes the game more fun. Command Board is really addictive as well. I think I spent more time with that than the actual game. :lol

I also get the feeling that you really do need to experience BbS to get everything else in entries before and after it. It's basically KH0.

This is what I think they should do. Of course, uh, that might not be a good idea either. :lol

It's really good. I was considering making an LTTP thread, but I decided against it since I finished the game, and my OP for it would probably be lengthy because I'd want to make room to discuss languages employed in the music and dialogue. If there's a making of video for the soundtrack, I'd like to see it. Thanks for the info with regards to the FAQ. I'm skimming through the intro and it seems interesting.

I unfortunately didn't switch languages during my playthrough, so I'm not sure how the other languages fared. I have a few friends who loved playing it in Italian, though. The language switching throughout the game was quite welcome to me (especially the post-assassinations bits). I had a few friends who casually slipped in Italian words in English conversation while we were growing up, so it didn't seem out of the ordinary to me.

Huge improvement on AC1's mechanics. I wonder if the other games in the series follow the same pattern of improvement.

Did Type-0's include structural assets and stuff? And yeah, I liked FFXII's structural work a lot; I probably stood and looked around for quite a while in that game.
