And considering Fox wussed out on Galactus (not that Pym can get anywhere near that big), a giant character really hasn't been explored much in comic movies beyond the above scene.

Except when Pym grabs Absorbing Man and gets so large that they are able to see the Elders of the Universe (such as Eternity, etc.) which shuts down Absorbing Man's mind because he can't fathom the majesty and scale of what he's witnessing.

Just got back from a showing and loved it. Glad to know that "Avengers" turned out great with an ensemble cast.

Of new characters I would like to see in Avengers 2 that I haven't seen mentioned would have to be Sam Wilson, The Falcon. It would probably work best for him to be introduced in Captain America 2 since The Falcon has been a strong support character to Cap for about 30ish years. Depending on how they play their cards, I imagine Falcon and Pym's roles can be rather close to each other, some animal research division of SHIELD or something.

So just a couple of fleeting questions.

How did Thor know Loki had the Chitauri? I don't recall him mentioning it in the forest.

How did Thor change costumes after being dropped from the helicarrier and joining the fight in New York? I think there may have been a quick cut scene where Thor prays to Odin and he powers him up a little bit, but that is just some speculation on my part.

I am hyped for Avengers 2. I need to get myself an Infinity Gauntlet toy when it comes out.

No I mean based off of you know, following comic book news.

Ms. Marvel is becoming Captain Marvel and getting her own solo as appearing in EMH. She Hulk was in MvC3, is in along with Ms. Marvel in the new Avengers facebook game and is set to appear in the new Hulk cartoon.

Those are considered higher publicity.

Like RR/Nova getting publicity as well as GotG movie hinted at. IF/Cage getting more appearances as a H4H movie being hinted at and a Strange movie may happen and Ant Man/Wasp is in the works as well.

So yes.

The fanarts that came out of this film have been fantastic:

The only problem I had with the ending action scene in this movie was that they could have thrown in some military guys fighting with the Avengers. I know they had a line in there about them not getting there for an hour or something but I find it really hard to believe the battle went on that long and the military didn't even send a Jet. Did Nick Fury not alert the army that aliens were about to invade Manhattan or did his entire plan hinge on baseball cards?

Henry Pym created a substance that allows him to changes size. Ant-Man was simply one of his aliases. He was also Giant-Man/Goliath.

I'd certainly agree the usefulness of only shrinking down would be ... small ... and similarly, donning the Ant-Man outfit, etc. would be pretty damn cheesy. Having a character that can change to whatever size he wants however could be quite interesting.

Think of that last scene in the Watchmen when Dr. Manhattan goes giant. Stuff like that would be a possibility. And considering Fox wussed out on Galactus (not that Pym can get anywhere near that big), a giant character really hasn't been explored much in comic movies beyond the above scene.

Thanks for that post.

In terms of power, what would be his limiting factor, though? When I think of his introduction into the Avengers for the movie-verse, I think of balance and usefulness played a believable aspect of those powers. I'm assuming he's not invulnerable, otherwise, that would be ridiculous.

It was mentioned that he still has the same strength when he's small, but I would find it hilarious if the same were true despite how large he was. So his usefulness would really only be physical reach, but he'd also be more vulnerable because of it. I think people could be creative with that. Even with that said, I'm still laughing about it. Would be a challenge to sell that to the public.

Concerning the "another scientist" approach, I'm on the side of the fence of "already too many scientists." I mean, they've already made a nod to the lingo in Avengers by alienating Cap over the turbine scene, in addition to the "finally, someone who speaks English." They specially did that so they don't actually have to get into the nitty gritty details for the audience.

I think it's safe to assume they'll keep this current roster of characters for at least until A2. I'm sure the whole point for this movie was simply to establish the grouping, but now they can do more badass shit with all of that team-building out of the way and really develop a villain.

And smh at no solo Black Widow movie, but that they'l merchandise her with clothing and cosmetic products. Such a disservice to her in-movie character. One step forward, one step back.

OMG at the amount of money this film has made so far. Anyone who thought Disney paid too much money for Marvel is probably eating loads of crow right now.

When he grows, he loses stamina at an accelerated rate depending on how big he got.

Shrinks, well we know what would happen if you shrunk.

So yes Ant Man is balanced. I just want him to be witty and all pacifist at times.

Also, another geek to form a geek trio would be hilarious. Also him and tony would get into arguments over who is smarter.

Just saw it yesterday.

Overall great, but I need to vent: You know the scene in the trailer where the avengers are standing in a circle, back-to-back, as the camera rotates? And everyone looks bad-ass.. Except for Black Widow, who reloads her little pistol to fight the alien horde with laser beams and shit?

Well, I was curious if this scene wouldn't be so awful... If Black Widow somehow was worthy of a rotating reloading shot. The answer is a definitive no. She is a horrible super hero and her character took away from the movie.

And Samuel L. trying to shoot down an F-35 with his own pistol was one of the funniest things I've seen in theatres in a while.

Thanks for listening. Carry on.

He never shoots the second plane though, he just aims at it then sighs.

Dude, she was awesome. She made it to the roof and got the scepter to close the friggin portal!

Introduce Pym in an Iron Man movie. He works at Stark R & D or something and uses JARVIS as his basis for the Ultron AI. A few movies later, shit goes down. And I am happy.

Let us not forget the Loki interrogation scene, her driving the alien craft using the alien and a knife, or her kicking Clint's ass. She had several great moments and some of the best fight scenes.

Ant Man and Wasp are getting there own movie. And surprised no one caught the teaser at the beginning of the Avengers before Loki shows up. Shame.

In the background was a red suit being scanned that looked a lot like the Ant Man suit. Have a nice day.

Question: Why didn't Loki's scepter work on Stark?

They don't really say specifically, but it's probably due to the arc reactor energy interfering with the power of the staff.

Yeah, you hear the sceptre "tink" against his chest, but you ALSO see the energy in the sceptre retract from the reactor and "go dead" for a while. remember the reactor is constantly forcing energy outward to keep that shrapnel in place.

Since they used the (larger) arc reactor powering stark tower to jumpstart/power the tesseract and open the portal, it's not unreasonable to assume that the smaller reactor in tony's chest is similar to/powerful enough to the sceptre to resist it's energy.

Saw the 3D version today - didn't have the flexibility to wait for the 2D showing. Personally, I found the 3D distracting, but I thought they did a good job with the conversion overall.

As far as the movies goes, I thought it was great - Whedon did a bang up job. I heard about this a few years ago and immediately thought that they'd never make a movie with this many characters (And Thor, whose kinda the odd character out to me) work. Damned if he didn't prove me wrong.

Movie season 2012 is off with a bang. Next stop - Prometheus.

Both audiences were incredibly quiet after Coulson's death.
I wish I could go to your theater.
Quite a bit of people were laughing during that scene. And the kid directly to my right side said "Nigga, you gay" while Fury was watching him die. Which cause people to start laughing again.

Some fucking people, smh...

Sounds good to me. I think them being married could lead to some good stuff. Like in the Ultimates animated movies. Stark hitting on Janet, Janet fawning over Cap because of him being an icon, Hank getting jealous all the time. I'd say Hank beating her could be good, but I was hoping for them to get really into 'Demon in a Bottle' for Tony and they wrapped up his alcoholism in a 10 minute party scene and fight in IM2. So I don't have too much confidence in them doing it justice.

You must have missed the army guys with the M16s shooting at the aliens.

Dude I'mma need some photos of that.

Man, I hate highschoolers and college frat boys at my theaters so much. It's always like that too..

RDJ single-handedly made Iron Man a good movie. That's basically it.

Yeah pretty much. Iron Man is the crown jewel of the Avengers franchise, and it's almost entirely because RDJ has completely owned the Tony Stark character.

BTW, Hulk fans are a crazy bunch. I sat next to a couple when I saw the film today. The sheer giddiness they display when Hulk smashes shit is a sight to behold. When Hulk beats the shit out of Loki, I thought they were going to jizz in their pants.

I doubt it, tbh. They seem to want to focus on them being their own thing, not involving other heroes. It's possible, though. The best part about IM and Thor movies are the easter eggs they get.
Introducing characters doesn't mean the movies need to revolve around them. I'm not implying buddy cop scenarios here or anything. Just enough screen time to demonstrate their existence and maybe do a bit of backstory. That way the next Avengers movie isn't required to explain all new characters. It can be done organically as the plot dictates, instead of forcing the writers hands to introduce every new character.

If anything, that kind of seems to be the point MCU. That want it to mirror the comic book world, where there's tons of crossovers and they don't have to explain stuff every time. Really it's kind of a win-win. It makes it easier for the writers to include different characters (which I'd argue benefits us - I don't origin stories over and over for the same characters) ... and for the studio, it gets more people into seats for movies since they want to know about everything. You kind of forced to see all the movies.

People love seeing the Hulk smash shit up. He's just a simple, fun character. He beats shit up, and can do it comically.

I'm thankful this theater I'm in is new and usually empty. It was full when I saw Avengers, but absolutely no one made smart-ass remarks.

:p

Obviously there's certain aspects of the Marvel Universe we likely won't ever seen put on film ;)

Yeah, my theater was pretty good, if not a little bit too enthusiastic. What I mean is there was a dude that tried making a few jokes after funny shit would happen, but nobody really laughed at his stuff; he got the idea after everyone was silent after the third time. Even with that, everyone was laughing, cheering, and there were even a few claps for certain moments.

It was a smaller crowd, but still great. Hell, there was a little kid in an Iron Man costume, helmet and all...that's awesome.

Yeah, I can understand that. It was just a bit unsettling to see a 40 something man squeal like a little girl when Captain America ordered Hulk to "smash". The fact that he had a wife and 2 kids made it a bit more unsettling.

Who cares? The guy was just having a fun time, there's nothing wrong with that.

Fury didn't know where Loki was. Only Banner saw the location on the scanner before the attack on the helicarrier disrupted everything. Later on it's Stark and Cap trying to figure out where Loki is planning to open the portal, and then Stark realizes that he's going to use the Arc Reactor at Stark Tower. They leave without telling Fury anything. Fury even says something like "they've found him, follow them." And after that the council decides to just nuke Manhattan, so of course the army isn't going to be sent there.

Just saw it today and loved it. That shot spanning the city and follows everyone fighting and you see Iron Man reflect his beam of Cap's shield. I was grinning like an idiot. Soooo good.

We don't even know that they're doing the Infinity Gauntlet. Thanos was around for 20 years before that.

And a big part of what made the Infinity Gaunlet great was
having half of everyone just die with what seemed like no recourse. You can't do that without having a much larger stable of people to kill off.

Fun movie, I enjoyed it.

It's as every bit as cold and soulless as the rest of these Marvel Studios films, but it was fun.

Bring on Shane Black's Iron Man 3 --- hopefully he can inject a little sentiment into it.

infinity gauntlet wasn't even really an avengers story. it would be hard to do and get right without adam warlock and silver surfer.

They'd obviously dumb it down alot and just make it a glove that Odin has, and maybe Loki steals, out of the vault and give to Thanos. Skip the whole plot of Thanos looking for each gem and all. It will become the ultimate MacGuffin just like the Tesseract became.

Ant Man would be cool, but Wasp is the most useless superhero ever. They should do a female Avenger that would actually be powerful, like Ms. Marvel.

Also since the Infinity Gauntlet was seen at in Odin's treasure room in Thor, does that mean if it would to be included in the next movie they would skip collecting the gems?
