...and thanks for those images, they're friggin' boss.

Yep. That's from JLA/Avengers. I pulled my hardcover CE out after seeing the movie. So good. Love the cover to issue 4 with Supes + shield + mjolnir.
Edit: this one

Same here, the guys saying Coulson's death carried no weight are crazy. It worked and worked well. As will his eventual return.

I didn't feel that it carried much weight, but I can't understand it would for others I guess. I didn't actually recognise him from the iron man films (its been a while since I've seen them), and for me he was just kind of the token helpful secondary character who was clearly going to die. It was a little sad, with the cards and stuff, but it wasn't shocking.

I'm kind of surprised to hear that. Most people seem to remember Coulson quite well that aren't big comic fans, just because his manner and personality seemed extremely memorable. Just generally the dorky sarcastic stuff he had brought a lot of levity that was so completely different from RDJ that it stood out (more in 2 of course since he's not in 1 as much).

He is Thanos, intergalactic genocidal alien superhuman maniac badass.

He was using Loki the whole time as a pawn in order to get his hands on the Cosmic Cube.

This is an interesting point. Thor now has the cube and it will locked away tight in Odin's vault, so what reason could Thanos have for fighting the avengers/invading Earth/whatever he plans to do in the avengers sequel. It was a really cool scene, but I'm not sure if he would work in a sequel if his only motivation was to get the cube.

That's just me though, I want a sequel to introduce Ant-Man if they can't get the movie off the ground and to follow through to him developing Ultron who becomes the villain in A2.

Thanos' only motivation is courting death.

Not his only motivation at all. His motivations as a character are clear and sort of give him carte blanche to attack the Earth in whatever sadistic manner he sees fit, now that his first attempt (involving no effort on his part) failed.
edit: see above and below :P

The Cube is a tool to complete his mission, not the mission. His mission is to "court death", and Earth's Mightiest Heroes have just proven they are a worthy goal.

Huh, is that why he wanted the cube? Serious question, I only know very basic things about the character. (god like, immortal, crazy strong, intelligent, that's pretty much all I know)

It was just a means to an end, if they go with the major Thanos plot from the comics, the Cube would've been a nice trinket compared to his real prize.

Yup.

It's quite literal- in the Marvel Universe, certain concepts are personified by immortal rarely-seen characters. Death is embodied as a female Thanos is totally obsessed with (he is friendzoned if you ask me, but whatever, I'm not going to be the one to tell him).

I didn't mind Cobie, she was ok. As long as she doesn't have to play asshole Hill, which I doubt she would be able to pull off, I can tolerate her.

He is. Death has been totally macking on Deadpool lately.

Did anyone catch this dialog between Natasha and Clint?; "This is like Budapest all over again." "You and I remember Budapest very differently."

There's obviously an untold story for both of them.. and maybe even between them.

I think that was mostly a joke, "Budapest" being movie-shorthand for "generic mysterious international assignment", and Hawkeye remembering it differently meant he didn't remember an army of aliens, superheroes and Norse gods being involved.

I love that this was hinted at in the dialogue. Something about "courting Death."

No way man! She was totally into him for awhile.

She did it okay. From the start it was obvious she was never going to have a big part in the film, and while I don't think she's interesting enough to have her own film obviously, i'd be interested in seeing her cameo/antagonise in future films.

I can see the character taking over from Coulson, for better or worse.

Yep. The line of dialogue works both ways. If you know nothing about Thanos, he grins because he likes death. If you do know who he is, he grins because he loves Death.

It's a very deliberate line.

It's a very deliberate line.

I'd be interested to know if that was Whedon's line or Marvels. I know Whedon is well aware of comic lore and he's quite clever enough to do it, but it's so deliberately a shout-out to Thanos' main plot that it seems a directive from up high.

Either way it was awesomely done.

I think the only thing that would get me more hyped than Thanos would be Ultron. Maybe the Pyms will be in Avengers 2 and they can do him in 3.

"To challenge the humans... would be to court death."

Uh-huh yeah plenty of girls have been "into me for a while."

***Ahem***
Oh-oh-oh.

No way to know unless someone asks in an interview. I'm just wondering if they'll go all out and have Death appear, or if the line is an Easter Egg. A wink to the fans.

Ah, cool. Thanks chaps. well that's something to look forward to in the inevitable sequel. I quite like the idea of death being a character, but maybe not show her though...can't see a hooded female skeleton translating well.

This movie was awesome. My group of friends loved it. When we came out of the theater the orange moon was shining bright and we all were kind of in a trance from the movie. Kind of a euphoria if you will. Then we went and got drunk because it was Cinco de Mayo.

I imagine they won't actually show the aspect of Death, but instead have Thanos be some religious zealot who's making these sacrifices in order to please her. Though, I also thought it would be hard for people to accept a God (Thor) fighting alongside the Avengers, but they pulled that off.

It would be pretty dope if at the end of Avengers 2 when Thanos is inevitably defeated we get a post credits stinger of Death looking all disappointed at Thanos.

I actually agree 100%- either have her appear just as an attractive, normal-looking young woman, briefly, or never even show her at all despite Thanos talking to her throughout his screen time, and look like (more of) a lunatic to the people in the audience who don't know his deal.
