Not sure why. My favorite games on the PSP and DS are entries from "console franchises".

Well they can't have any mario games, but I would like a DQ or FF game. Other than that I can't think of a single console franchise from Sony I want on a portable. We've had two solid GoW games, but they were already so samey that I certainly would not get a third. I can't stand AssCreed and have no idea why I'd play any shooter on the Vita when I could play it on a console.

RPG spin-offs or remakes I'd be ok with, but portable versions of "AAA" games? No thanks.

I'll take as many Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, Sly Cooper, LittleBigPlanet, inFamous, Motorstorm, and Gran Turismo games as they have the inclination to port.

I'd take a Sly. The rest I would take a look at if the A team is on them. Uncharted on Vita is completely uninteresting to me.

Gran Turismo? Really? Did you play the PSP version?

DLC!

;)

But yeah, it was barebones as hell. Still, it was a portable sim racer. Those are as rare as unicorns.

Wait, what? I hadn't noticed that prospective 3DS full-game downloads were tied to your system. That's not cool. Isn't e-shop stuff relatively easy to transfer?

Yeah, as long as you actually have both systems. If something breaks, then you have to go through Nintendo's customer service, which, to be fair, is quite good, but that's still an obnoxious step that shouldn't exist. At least the Wii U has account systems. Hopefully Nintendo puts something similar in place for the 3DS.

I expect them to lean heavily on new portable entries of console franchises, which happened to the PSP to some extent. Madden, Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed, blah blah blah. Transfarring. Maybe a Ratchet-something. Safe bets. And honestly that's not at all what they need to do. They need a Pokémon-caliber portable exclusive that is something wholly unique they can say 'can only be done on Vita.'

But...who knows if they have that.

With our luck they will proudly announce PlayStation Home for Vita and the world will collapse in on itself.

Sony doesn't have a Pokemon-caliber exclusive on the Vita, they won't have one ever and they don't have that kind of exclusive on the PS3 either. Their systems are successful on the library of good games and the number of non-gaming things you can do with them. Nintendo is kind of the opposite, where you buy their systems for their big franchises and do nothing but play games on them.

It will be interesting to see how far Sony can expand the Vita from where they are now. With the PSP it's amazing how much it changed in the course of its lifecycle (for one, it launched without a Playstation Store and went on to become the first console with day 1 digital/retail releases). There are a lot of interesting places they can take the Vita to expand its market, I'd imagine a bigger focus on non-gaming apps with a Vita phone and a 10-inch Vita tablet being the most obvious ones.

I think B teams can do great stuff sometimes. Assassin's Creed for example just had a couple of great entries from their B teams. Uncharted Golden Abyss is kind of bad on the one thing Naughty Dog excels at (Amy Hennig), but as far as being a shooter goes it's a much better game than any of the PS3 Uncharted games.

GT PSP was amazing, I lost my bus stop multiple times thanks to that game. Although I do hope the Vita game has more traditional game modes as well the portable oriented stuff they were going with.

We have very different quality barometers.

I haven't played a Telltale game before, nor have I read/watched The Walking Dead... but I'm kinda interested in the game.

I played the demo last night (usually I am day 1 with telltale but...JP...) and was really shocked at how well they do the action. I can't wait to actually play it tonight

However, the Vita as it stands isn't good for those kinds of applications because it shuts off network activity pretty often to conserve battery, prefers 3G over wifi and makes you sit through several "please wait... connecting" dialogs when reconnecting. Its 3G is balls slow, too, in my experience—they must've put a crappy 3G chipset in there. Connecting at an airport is a useless exercise. If Sony wanted to compete on those features they'd have to at least be better than an iPod touch or cheap smartphone at it and I do not believe they are.

If you're suggesting Sony make a Vita phone and Vita tablet, well...look at how well their PlayStation Suite phones/tablets have done so far (not well).

I agree I think B teams can surprise when given good latitude to produce something new/different. But anyone making portable games now has to know they're competing with smartphones for attention. Meaning—low cost of entry. I don't think any console manufacturer likes that.

Maybe its because I'm an idiot but I would totally buy a Sony tablet / Vita hybrid that had the form factor of Sony's tablet (LOVE that folded book look and feel) with Nintendo style flat circle pads on the sides and triggers up top on the thick fold

Still can't believe Sony's tablet stuff doesn't tie into your existing PSN ID. You can buy PS1 games... but can't use the ones you own? What bullshit. Cuts off pretty much the reason I would choose a Sony product over the iPad (unless they changed that at some point)

That said I'm happy with my little ipod touch. Have no desire to upgrade to a tablet at the moment

Oh wow, my iMac doesn't even meet the minimum specs for Walking Dead. I think I need a real computer.

Or there's the ios version, I suppose. Does that include iPod Touch?

the lack of interest for Avengers from the crew was really disappointing. I guess noone aside from Phil really cares.

I'm totally interested in The Avengers movie. Just waiting for a friend of mine to return from a trip so the group of us can go see it together.

I might not get to finish up Walking Dead anytime soon so I'm not going to listen to the show this week, did any of you guys struggle through it at all? It's not "scary" but I have this high anxiety whenever I play it because of the little girl. I didn't ever get that way before I had a daughter, so I'm just wondering if the new dads are feeling the same thing?

I would like to see it, but I doubt I'll be able to while it's in theaters. Might have to wait until it's available for rent via iTunes. You know, baby and all. There are some other movies coming out this summer that I'd rather save my movie theater experience for (Prometheus). I'm not a huge comic book nerd or even a comic book movie nerd.

aw ok, watch out for spoilers. not sure if you care.

I can understand some of the points when it comes to the "hand held" experience.

But I believe that the suspend option with current handheld makes them moot.

I believe that games had to be designed in chunks for handheld before because the hardware back them didn't allow them to create huge experiences due to the lack suspend.

Right now I could be watching a Cutscene on MGS and just suspend the system when my train stop is close.

But is that the Metal Gear experience you want on a portable? What happens if you suspend the game and run out of battery before you're able to get back to it? What if you can only play in 10-minute chunks and that means you can only watch a cutscene before having to put it down again? This is what I think we mean by a game designed to be portable.

Portable games need to fit into your schedule and can be put down/forgotten at a moment's notice without your progress going away. And, be satisfying for whatever time you can put into it. This is what a lot of iPhone games do quite well these days - you might sink hours into Draw Something but it doesn't demand that time and you can put whatever you have into it and still feel like you're doing something. Same with Hero Academy or any other iOS game that does well.

Why would that be disappointing? I just don't have any love for superheroes outside of Spider-Man, because that's the one superhero I loved as a kid. I'm pretty excited for The Amazing Spider-Man and I'm sure I'll see that in the theater. But none of the heroes in The Avengers hold any appeal for me at all. And I haven't like Robert Downey Jr. in a movie since Less Than Zero--so there's that, too. (well, I guess I kind of liked Two Girls and a Guy, but that was more about Heather Graham being orally pleasured by him from behind)

Also, for the record, as of last night, the ARES game code had not been claimed. I suppose I could also include anyone who wants to email me at mormonrage@gmail.com and ask for it.

I agree with your point--BUT--the couple times my Vita battery has depleted while I was in the middle of a game, it's resumed in that exact spot when I plug it in.

I'm totally the same way.

cuz I wanted some nerdy Avengers talk and Phil was all alone. You should check out all the Marvel movies.

I miss Greg Ford.

I sent an email . hopefully it was the first.

You aren't doing mothers day right for your wife if you don't sign the card for the baby AND the family pet!

Mike sounded so relieved when he finally got his Minecraft opinion out. Must have been holding it in all week

hell yes Stewy, Avengers rawks. check out Thor and Incredible Hulk. They're fun movies.

Phil, there's a proper procedure on transferring content from old PS3 to the new one. There's no need to red/l everything, lol. You should look up the 'how to' videos on Youtube. I transferred my old PS3 content to a new Slim with no problems. Just delete all Game Data first and you can transfer everything including saves to the new console.

I am enjoying The Witcher 2 (after a rough start when it was irritating the hell out of me), but I think mik loves it so much because Geralt sounds exactly like him.

Does anyone know which episodes Mass Effect 3's ending is discussed in? 2 - 3 episodes ago? I am a bit behind.

Episode 287 (04/23/12) - The New Zealand Story

I wish I sounded like Geralt. I want that son of a bitch's hair, too!

Odd, I thought I listened to that one, but it appears I only made it halfway through. I'll have to check it out.

As someone who will one day be follically impaired like you, I also envy his hair.

I just picked it up after listening to the guys talk about it. It's awesome, and I empathize with you. I find myself worrying about Clementine and the other people in the group (some more than others). The last decision you make (
save the reporter or man baby
) was particularly difficult and I questioned my choice afterwards. It's pretty stressful in some ways.

If the first episode's any indication, this looks to be an approximately 10 hour game. I hope it maintains this level of quality!

Don't you guys pay attention to the internet? If you have any complaints about Diablo you are doing it wrong. The game is Blizzard (i.e. perfect) and you don't get to gripe.
