Diablo 3 Beta [Beta withdrawal underway!]

I've been reading that there is basically no death penalty. You don't even have to go back to find your corpse. I actually never died in the beta so I was never able to test this out but it seems strange. They're changing a lot of features that were part of the Diablo franchise.

Man, a lot of the art Blizzard puts out for Diablo 3 stinks compared to the stuff that debuted with the game's announcement. The early stuff, which I assume was done by and under Brian Morrisoe's direction before he left, is fantastic. Wonderful use of color and a reasonably classy, un-offensive gothic style.

I was worried when I heard he left but fortunately from what I've seen and played the game isn't overflowing with the cheesy stuff that Blizzard's artist often put out there (though the writing and voice acting is as cringe inducing as ever).

I just hope that the game doesn't slowly evolve away from the Morrisoe's original aesthetic vision.

And it's a shame they moved away from the fuller body for the female witch doctor. Not that I'm surprised, but it sure is a damn shame.

Your "not as good" examples are just from a different (more unexperienced?) artist clearly. And it's the first time I've seen them actually.

In beta there was no penalty except for losing durability on items. You friend could also revive you on the spot.

Well, at death they remove 10% durability of your equipped items (at least in inferno. I'm not sure if that's consistent through all difficulties). Considering how large of a factor gold is going to be, this can be a rather large gold sink as the developers expect us to die frequently in Inferno.

I'd like to save that gold personally, and it's a lot better than making myself quit the game and rejoin or do that silly dance to get my corpse back.

From what I remember in the beta, it was respawn back at the last Checkpoint and a durability hit. Don't think there's a corpse run anymore.

Death penalty is 10% durability damage.
Apparently repairs start costing a shit ton of gold in later levels. This has the bonus of making gold valuable. Woo.

I'm pretty sure some of those latter wallpapers are fan art. Also, I don't really feel like the final product that we've been playing in the beta is that far off from the pieces you like.

I doubt it. I died once during the beta weekend to see how getting ressurected by your team works. We didn't test what would happen if no one was there to res you, but I don't think Blizzard would take getting your corpse back out of the game.

There's no corpse run, you start at the last checkpoint.

What a god send, now I have my spare monitor always on this page auto refreshing and work on the other.

So is the Guest Pass different from the Starter Edition? I'm guessing the Guest Pass is exactly like SC2's in that it's 7hours or 14days of complete access while the Starter Edition is the free version launched down the line that will cap you at a certain level.

I like the female designs better as well, except the Monk, male Monk is just too badass.

Personally I like all of the designs, but my preferences are:

Demon Hunter Male > Female
Barbarian Male > Female
Monk Male > Female
Witch Doctor Male > Female
Wizard Female > Male
 
If you die, you restart at the last checkpoint and you take 10% durability damage.

REPAIRS ARE EXPENSIVE. Death is still bad, you just don't waste time corpse running. It has a positive continual gameplay effect but mm I dunno if it communicates the punishment well enough. Your first repair bill in hell/inferno will probably teach you that dying is bad I guess?

I don't remember where but I read that there's no corpse-hunting anymore. If there is no-one to revive you, you just respawn from the last checkpoint with everything on you and a 10% durability loss.

Finally reading up.

I wanna do normal SP, but co-op further on.

EU -> WD.

Is there a GAF co-op list? Teaming up with some GAF-folks should be fun.
 
Does anyone know if it's possible to change the number associated with your battle tag or are you pretty much stuck with what's generated? I know it's not a big deal I just would like something I can remember easier.

See I think the male demon hunter just looks extremely agile and ready to jump at a moment's notice. A lot of people just think he looks like he has spine problems! Lol! I just think they were going for a more comic book type of posture for him.

As far as I know, you're just stuck with the number assigned.

Can you move a SP character to MP or do you need to have two seperate characters?

There's technically no SP / MP division. It's all online. People just say "SP" to mean one going through the game solo.

you're always online, so there's no differentiation between SP and MP characters. It's just that if you're in a game by yourself it acts like a SP game (followers, pausing, etc.)

Edit: beaten, this is moving too fast for me lol
