Fighting Games Weekly | May 7-13

Also as far as you going for Vegas just for EVO you are probably in the vast minority on that.
I'm not so sure about that, really. I kind of wish EVO was held elsewhere just so it'd be cheaper. I enjoy Poker from time to time but I don't see myself doing any gambling in Vegas because the opportunity to play high-level fighting game talent is so much rarer that I'll be focusing on that almost exclusively.

Charging people a weekend's fee for one day seems a bit steep.
Isn't that the point, though? To make it intentionally steep so that people are actively turned away from taking up what limited space they have?

Watching The Break - a mighty 5 people turned up for Skullgirls. Despite everyone paying lip service to the game, people immediately turned around and sat back down at UMvC3...

FML.

One of the commentators made a good point - SFxT really seems to have harmed the community by being so bloody awful that people have given up.

Uhhhhhh, I don't know what that is supposed to mean. But damn, even SCV had longer legs, though 8wayrun has always been an SCV community.

Seems like UMvC3 is all anyone wants to play at The Break.

Sorry for running on TST, but thanks to the people who watched. I tried to keep things short, but for anyone who missed it and still wants to watch:

The short version: I'm going to EVO, but asking for help. I've been resistant to the whole "D" word, but after talking with my friends and others, who basically said do it, I'm swallowing my pride asking for d-... do-... donations. If you feel indebted to me because of the work I've done on GAF (even though I've been doing significantly less as of late) and want to help, that's fine. I don't think you owe me anything, but that's okay. If you just want to see me go to EVO, that's fine. I don't even feel right talking about it here, so I'll probably make a post about it on the blog I never use. I don't have any sort of fancy links set up (I'll work on that), but if you want to help via PayPal, send here: USDMonster@gmail.com

For anyone who cares, I'll try to give more information tomorrow.

Skullgirls not being an EVO game really hurt it in terms of R&D of fighting tech and exposure. It seems like a lot of people want to play the game judging by all the good numbers at majors, but people are busy with the EVO stage games. I don't think I have to say what I feel about SG being passed up for a certain game...

What's done is done.

That really sucks. SG is a great game to watch (can't really speak from playing SFxT or SG).

I do love the use of R&D in your post though. :P

If you need a room at EVO I'm still looking for 2-3 people to pair with. You can have one of those spots free of charge if you want. I'm booked in the Imperial Palace (across the street from Caesar's) from Thursday night to Monday morning.

Just pre-registered for Toryuken.

I only registered for SF4 even though I haven't played in a month.. I wanted to play SFXT so bad but I don't have a partner. I was going to team up with 'Scruffs' if you've ever played against him, but he cant make it :(

I blame the no day one PC version on me not buying it. :(

Really? I don't know about taking a spot for free, but I do need a room. Thursday night through Monday morning was what I was looking for, so that will work out perfectly.

Anyone know an easy way to get to where Toryuken will take place via public transportation? I live in Mississauga.

Just take the Go Train/Bus to Union Station. From there you can walk or take the subway and get off at St. Andrews and walk 3 minutes to the hotel.

I live in Mississauga too. My plan as usual is just to Go Bus to Union, then walk to the hotel. Or Taxi if I'm feeling extra lazy.

Are you staying at the Hyatt hotel for the night?

I'm okay with paying $50 for spectating at Evo. I pay $50 for a weekend pass at Fax Expo (Canadian Comic Con), people pay $65 to get into Pax East... $50 for the most hype event of the year is nothing!

Sucks for Skullgirls.

Surprisingly, not sarcasm.
Are you okay? This is mostly a sincere question.

I kinda messed up with my first post. It's not like it got passed up for a certain Capcom game. Release date uncertainty probably hurt it's chances a lot too. It might have had a small chance if it would have released earlier.

Oh well

Yes, I'm fine. No, my account has not been hacked.

Huh, that's pretty impressive.

yeah, this sounds fucked up but I thought it was crazy there were just as many girls as there were guys playing it in SEGA GIGO when we went.

Is the internet as godlike as people say?

Can't wait to play Persona in August and I hope it doesn't just stick with the anime crowd and top players pick it up.

yeah man. if I had a chance to live here and stream I would probably take it just based on the fact that internet is never an issue here. I was able to stream an actual tournament in 720p for the first time. lol. :)
