OK, so there's definitely something wrong with her hair.
He looks like an okay dude to me. What was he in? He looks very familiar, but I can't place him.
Cost of damage to New York City as depicted in The Avengers? $160 billion
According to the Kinetic Analysis Corporation (KAC), the total cost to restore New York City if The Avengers wasn't just a movie would be $160 billion$60 or $70 billion for physical destruction, the rest in various types of economic impact. For real-world comparison, the 9/11 attacks cost $30 billion, the 2011 Japanese earthquake and tsunami $122 billion, and Katrina and the federal floods over $90 billion, all according to KAC.
To its credit, KAC got into the spirit of the occasion. The title of the two-page document is "Chitauri Invasion of New York City." Among the report's conclusions:
"Cleanup from monster attacks and alien invasions often have complications not found in natural catastrophes."
"There was considerable collateral damage of questionable necessity by at least one of the S.H.I.E.L.D. operatives (Hulk)."

What a magnificent pair of sentences. I am liking this day."Cleanup from monster attacks and alien invasions often have complications not found in natural catastrophes."

I'm surprised people don't know what a shawarma wrap is :S
No, he was on the Amanda Show I think....wait...he's the touchy guy from Scrubs!

Haha I love reading stuff like this...reminds me that all types of people can be nerds at heart
I think more people have had it than may realize it, they just maybe didn't hear it called that before.
That reminds me of this GREAT segment in an Ultimate X-Men issue when Nick Fury is more of a James Bond action-spy type. He has this ridiculous array of gadgets and equipment that gives him near-superhuman abilities, but all of them are directly tied to the S.H.I.E.L.D. accounting budget in real time and he can only get a few seconds out of each before burning through their finances. I think there's even a shot where they give him like 5 seconds of intangibility and he loses a gun because they run out of money before he can get it through the wall.I'm sure S.H.I.E.L.D.'s accounting department will be silently cursing their team for all the damage; Tony would probably get Pepper to figure out how they can foot part of the bill too.
So how far off is a an Avengers 2 movie?
See post 10747 :'(No, he was on the Amanda Show I think....wait...he's the touchy guy from Scrubs!

I've been playing armchair movie analyst in the MCU thread and reckon it's coming 2016. Nothing is definite at all, though. 2015, earliest.

I never heard of scharma before this movie, but sadly there is no local places to even try it out. :/
I thought Stark said 'Batman is playing Galaga', but then I realised it was probably 'That Man'. Would be awesome if Marvel did throw a few jabs towards the Dark Knight![]()

I'll be old by then
Get hyped for Thor 2 and Iron Man 3, apparently they both come out this year.
I'm surprised by this!
Where do you live?
Nope nope. It's quite early on. It's when Fury is sent by SHIELD to investigate the weird bio-signature that appears to be mutantlike but not human, and it's like a crazy organic blob weapon of mass destruction. That's when they're actively capturing the X-Men to find Cable, right? Or am I remembering the wrong part...
oops I meant next year. They definitely come out next year.
He is going to get the moviemaking equivalent of a blank check (as well as something close to an actual one) for the sequel as a result of this success. What does Whedon personally stand to make from this film? In his open letter to fans he joked about getting a percentage of the gross, which - if true - could make him more money than he's made in his entire life so far.

I'm not. It's really not that known/popular of a thing. MUCH more in NY than other areas. While I'm sure places exist anywhere that those cultures are found, it's not something you can just walk out and find in the vast majority of the country.
Heck, the only reason I knew what it was going in was because of Infected Mushroom and Wikipedia, and I've lived only a few hours from NYC.

I'm hoping for:
2013: Iron Man 3 and Thor 2
2014: Captain America 2 and Avengers 2
I don't want to wait any more than that for another Avengers movie. Sorry Marvel.
It's strange, I've been easily able to find shawarma places where I live & work (Oasis Grill in SF I pass by every morning serves them and there are several joints throughout the East Bay) but I can imagine that it might be more obscure in places that lack a Middle Eastern food presence. But, I can say that if you'd at least had a Greek gyro before, it's similar to a shawarma.
Oh yeah... I kinda remember that part - it's been so long since I've read UXM. But yeah, it's one of the reasons why I was hyped that Samuel L. Jackson actually stepped out as Fury - as it was lifted from the comics.
You know...
If you search your user name on FanFiction.net, I bet you'd be surprised.
Definitely. It's the build up and the satisfying paid off that made it all the better. Why? I feel like the 4 year wait for this one just made the payoff even sweeter.
If they started doing an Avengers every two years, the impact of it being a big EVENT would quickly wear off.

The east bay is pretty diverse in terms of food, it's not too unlike New York. I live in the valley, you will not find it so easily here unless you're looking for it.
