LOL that would be awesome if Whedon made them put a line like this in his contract

"As it would perpetuate a bad reputation, Joss Whedon is not responsible for X character's death."

But NeoGAF told me Whedon had 100% control over this film!

Just to clarify based on the interviews so far it sounds like Whedon was brought in to write the script after Iron Man 2 right when Thor was about to be filmed. They showed him Thor and Cap scripts. They had a small structure to Avengers ready. Coulson, Cosmic Cube used to bring about Alien invasion through a Portal were Marvel ideas.

Considering Joss directed and wrote that end credits scene in Thor, Loki as a villain in Avengers might have been his idea as well.

I dunno. Loki was the first Avengers villain. I would assume that was Marvel's idea as well.

Needs more Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch

You have to be a really shitty writer when Mark Millar is more subtle at portraying the fact that there was incest going on between Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch in the Ultimates.

I'm not sure exactly why, but I'm watching some of the other Marvel films now, and for some reason I like them more now that I've seen The Avengers. Iron Man 2 and Thor, in particular. Captain America is still a little so-so...I still can't get over the lull in the middle of the movie and the dumb montages.

lol

People were saying Whedon had more to do with how well the film turned out than Feige, as opposed to those saying Feige deserved the majority of the credit.

Keep fighting that fight.
No one said Feige deserved credit for the quality of the film, but rather he deserves the majority of credit for the film's success.

There was one thing I didn't really understand about the movie. Why exactly did Loki want to bring out the Hulk? Was it just to try to stop S.H.I.E.L.D.?

The Hulk can pretty much singlehandedly obliterate the other avengers and SHIELD, with Thor being the only potential exception.

The film succeeded because of what Whedon did, and I know several artists who interacted with him who would say that as well in terms of getting feedback on their particular sequences. If the film turned out terrible, we all know people would be placing the blame on Whedon and not Feige.

EDIT: Here's a quote from the show supe:

Creating aerial bases, giant green rage-monsters, chariot-riding aliens and massive flying serpents is all well and good, but for White, the real thrill of working on "Avengers" was collaborating with Whedon, a storyteller who White was already very fond of going into the project.

"It was fantastic," White said of working with Whedon. "He's involved in the [visual-effects] process every step of the way. Joss is so good at working with actors, and that extended right through working with animation and trying to get that same performance, really coaching us along. 'Here's what we want to see, here's where you really want that look to get the emotion across his face.' Everything he does so well with writing and actors really translated into his direction for working with the Hulk. He was involved in the entire effects process and every review. It was great working with him."

John Carter jumps up from 38 to 12 thanks to Avengers:

John Carter zoomed up the domestic box office office chart from No. 38 the week before to No. 12 -- thanks to being paired with The Avengers at more than 150 drive-ins across the country.

John Carter -- which resulted in a $200 million loss for Disney -- grossed $1.5 million and was up a staggering 1,223 percent over the previous weekend. The film's domestic gross is now $70.8 million, while it has grossed $208.2 million overseas. Those are big numbers, but a hefty production budget and marketing spend put Disney into the red.

It's common practice for drive-ins to offer double features. Usually, however, it doesn't boost the older film's bottom line to such a degree. But Avengers did such massive business -- the film opened to $207.4 million, the biggest opening of all time --that it made a difference.

The average cost of a drive-in ticket is $8. Studios don't disclose how they divvy up the ticket sales between two films playing in a double feature.

Avengers could've never failed; you know why? Feige.

It could have easily failed. Bad word of mouth, nasty reviews, and the whole thing could have been Green Lantern all over again.

Feige did an excellent job getting the pieces in place, but there was no guarantee of success. Whedon delivered that.

The second Cap is rumored to be about AIM and is rumored that MODOK will appear in it.

Also Hawkeye/Natasha/Fury will probably be the stars of SHIELD. And modern Hawkeye written by Bendis is boring.

Read Remender or McCann or Slott's Hawkeye. He is supposed to be a wisecracking player type character with some anger issues.
That would be amazing.
