There's definitely shit about AE that bug me, but I think my only real beef with MvC3 is how certain teams feel like I just can't fucking ever move to generate my offense. If I'm not the one who came out swinging and confirmed first, then finding my opening again is just shit. That could be my team, or it could be how fucking inept I am with dealing with Doom missle assists and sentinel drones. Trying to snap in Doom to get rid of the problem doesn't do shit either since the character is so damn good, unlike Sent where a snap in can generally get you to destroy him due to his big ass hit box.
I suck at mahvel.
The more I play Marvel, the more I think it's really about option selects. So many of the tactics which allow you to control the playing field are made up of choices which lead to other choices dependent on your opponent's movements. So, when I face a Wolverine with drones assist at the beginning of a match, I will often create as much space as I can before Reverb Shocking with Dante to fish for an assist call and possible happy birthday. If I get it, then I do a bunch of damage, and if I don't then I'm pretty much safe as the Fireworks move which follows is safe on block. Another thing a lot of people do with a character like Dante is to airdash back and forth, throwing out jumping normals (j.M or j.H), cancelled into Air Play to cover a large area without committing to something unsafe. And of course depending on what results from these attacks, various other options may be pursued in followup.
Naturally, everything is dependent on matchups as well. If you really know your characters and how they face off against every other characters' typical attacks, you're going to be able to reduce a lot of the randomness factor, since you should know which options to pursue to keep you safe in the neutral game. If you're fighting Zero, you'd better use a character/team setup which has some control over the space above your head.
I know everything I'm saying here is pretty standard stuff, but it's becoming more fully realized as a real thing in my mind as I actually play the game. Options within options and careful reads of matchups and opponent behavior are what it always boils down to.
