I don't understand the strategy complaints. Cap led the team. What did you guys want to see, Cap staring at a map or something?

Honestly? I just wanted more of stuff like that scene in Avengers (a lot more), but in TFA. Montage didn't show that well.

And the way Cap was directing made perfect sense, especially if you break it down like the poster above me did.

Seriously, the bulkier suit in TFA was perfect for the big screen, no reason at all to change it. I also find it funny they claim that hawkeye's suit wouldn't translate well to the BS, but they went ahead with Cap's hideous new suit and thought it would look good/translate well to the BS.
Well Hawkeye is a spy in the movies. Why would he have a flashy superhero outfit?

Why doesnt Iron Man make his next suit out of Vibranium? Theres supposed to be an entire Mound sized deposit in Africa, or stcking to the movies story no more available outside of Captains shield. Except in IM 2 Tony was able to make a new element, so he should be able to make new Vibranium or at least reverse engineer it into Adamantium. Right? Surely a Vibranium Iron Man would destory almost any foe.

Same in my theater. It's funny, everyone realizes at that moment how reassuring his goofy professionalism has been throughout the films.

Everyone gasped at my midnight showing, followed by some muttered words. On my Saturday viewing with a mixed crowd, even they were gasping in disbelief too. I thought it was cool that Phil Coulson's death affected both the fanboy, the casual fan and the 8 year old kid - it shows that they all felt a connection to the guy.

Everyone cheered when he shot Loki with the Devestator gun.

Destroyer, but I like the way you think

Pretty sure Wakanda would take issue with him stealing their unobtanium.

Give it to War Machine!

...you guys all hate War Machine. :(

I didn't like don cheadle either but just keep him in the suit the whole time.

Probably because it doesn't fit with their version of how a team should be lead by Cap. I mean, war isn't won by staring at the map and yelling plays over a comm - but basically how Cap lead the team in TFA and in Avengers: you trust your guys to do what they do best and direct them to get into the best positions as possible. Not really hard.

He directed Hawkeye to head to higher ground = he knew that Hawkeye's best when he sees all and due to his experience as a SHIELD agent, he can take and give orders accordingly

He directed IM to handle the perimeter = he knew that since Tony has ranged weapons/can fly, it's easier to keep the action in one confined space

Directing Thor to the sky is pretty obvious, he can fly and controls lightning with his hammer = Chrysler Building lightning rod

Directing Hulk = smash

Having BW as his back-up, you have another experienced soldier who can be directed to get the job done.

I like Cap's strategy in the movie. he know he need to contain the fight so he told IronMan to do that, Hawkeye is Ironman's backup and to keep him updated with the field. Hulk does whatever Hulk does best while he and Black Widow hold the ground until they can close the portal, and for that, Cap choose their biggest powerhouse Thor to close the portal.

it's not until sometime later when he realize that even Thor power can't shut the portal down that Widow said maybe it's not about needing more power and that's when she ask a lift and go up there. I imagine if Widow hadn't said that, Cap will go to Stark tower himself, but the point is Cap is not neglecting the portal while they fight.

Completely bad ass, by the way, that Shield built a gun based on The Destroyer.

All things considered, it was probably the most economical thing to due with the salvaged parts.

SHIELD Accounting department was probably like: guess we'll have to up the R&D budget for the fiscal year...again.

Exactly. Which is why I'm not getting the hate for how he directed his team in TFA - he trusted his team to get the job done and they did. Therefore, he directed the team exactly as he should based off both TFA and in Avengers.

Both times I saw the film (2D & 3D) the audience had zero reaction. I must have went to showings that either A) had very few marvel fans or B) had people who never really paid much attention to him in the previous flicks - maybe both.

Make some. Like I mentioned.

I don't think anyone has succeeded in synthesizing it. Keep in mind that the material in Cap's shield isn't pure Vibranium, but rather an alloy that was created accidentally and has never been replicated.

I can see both happening to be honest, but it's interesting that a seemingly 'non-character' for the most part did have an impact to many.

I know I was in disbelief when I saw him get stabbed - my friends reacted too - and watching him get stabbed again during my second viewing, it made me realize that I really did like 'non-character' just as much as I cared about the big guys.

Both times I saw it, in the afternoon and evening, the audience gasped at Coulson's death. It has been a while since I've been to a movie that got so many reactions from the audience.

Right, but weve seen him make a new element already, like I said worst case he gets Adamantium which would still make a super strong suit.

I've never understand why war machine is so popular? He's just a pallette swap of Iron Man

Bingo. He's Luigi.

Ouch... I prefer Luigi over Mario but no way in hell is War Machine better than Iron Man.

Main difference is that War Machine = pilot who's a soldier, thus he'll have a shitton of offensive weapons

Iron Man = pilot who's a regular guy, more defensive weapons than offensive but is still willing to help save people rather than destroy stuff.

Come on!

This is not a palette swap, and he is not Luigi. War Machine is what happens when the United States government takes something like an Iron Man armor and spends the traditional fuckton of homeland defense money on it, resulting in excessive offensive power that Iron Man cannot match in terms of pure destruction. Its pilot in contrast to Tony Stark is a military man with a strong sense of duty that ends up off the government's radar after they try to control him. I've always liked him.

edit: Of course he isn't better than Iron Man. Especially post-Extremis.

Right, but weve seen him make a new element already, like I said worst case he gets Adamantium which would still make a super strong suit.

Adamantium might be tied up with the X-Men franchise? They've never mentioned it in the MCU, and Howard Stark described Cap's shield as Vibranium only in TFA.

Well the real reason is just because the writers don't want him to be overpowered. Canonically, Adamantium is heavy and not flexible which may not be attributes Tony wants to deal with.

I think he means like "big guns to appeal to the Gears of War crowd" edgy, but that's not really what it's like!

except that hes always been grounded with close to real world weaponry. and personality wise, is one of the most down to earth people that tony knows..

Hah, It was great to see all the little kids (mostly boys, obviously) flipping their shit at the hulk's appearance and everything else in the movie.

Y'know the movie was awesome when you can hear a kid halfway down the row from you yell "THAT WAS AWESOME!" whenever Hulk did something.

Keeping honest, down to earth people around Tony is probably what makes him an interesting character study at times. He's every bit the eccentric but just keeping Rhodey, Happy and Pepper around does keep him quite grounded.

And yes, War Machine is best suited for using weapons that he's comfortable with, which are naturally anything used by the military.

Kids next to me were cheering constantly at anything cool - from Hulk smashing to Hawkeye's no-look shot to the tracking shot of everyone and they were losing it completely when Hulk grabbed IM after the portal was closed. I was pleased.

Can someone summarize all of Coulson's contributions in the previous Marvel movies? I felt like I was missing something huge in the movie because I didn't understand why Iron Man in particular was so choked up about Coulson's death - I felt there wasn't any real relationship built between the two in The Avengers but that it must have been cultivated in the previous movies. I'm re-watching some old Marvel movies before I re-watch Avengers later tonight with some more friends, but I only have time for Captain America. I might skip Thor and the Iron Mans and watch Hulk since that's the only one I never watched and I have only so little time to spare. Yes, I do have a bad memory. =p

It's been implied between Iron man 2, Thor and the one shots that Coulson and Stark have been working together on Shield/avengers stuff somewhat reluctantly for a while. Stark has been used as a consultant on things for them as well. You can tell from their first scene together in the Avengers that Stark was kind of annoyed by him being around so much.

All I could think of the whole time was the "THAT WAS TOTALLY WICKED!" kid from The Incredibles.

Yep. It was quite interesting to hear all the post-movie chatter from the crowd as you had kids that were just flabbergasted by everything and were trying to explain why they liked...and then you had the adults who were basically a step up in their articulation about the same things.

Again, this film seemed to basically bring out everyone's inner child - particularly during the NYC battle - and I loved every minute of it.

What comic (issues) do they feature in?

Unfortunately none. :P

Those are Devastator Marines from Warhammer 40,000. They should totally invade the Marvel Universe though. Would be fun to watch.

Er, I think that was more because Tony just wanted to get laid. It's pretty clear that he's just being himself with Coulson - he likes him but he's always giving him a hard time for whatever reason.

Also too, it's implied that Pepper hangs out or talks alot with Coulson when Starks is not around.
