Diablo III |OT2| Queues Rise. Servers Fall.

I played Diablo 2 for only a couple of hours, and never played the first one. I'll post impressions later as a guy who isn't a Diablo superfan- might be an interesting point of view.

I tend to like magic users in games like this- how's the wizard/spellcaster class? Any general tips for a newbie?

Wow calm down guys, it's abundantly clear on many popular sites that there is a strong (user based) backlash against this game, your touchiness isn't really convincing me otherwise. I just wanted to know whether it was down to the quality of the game or the current state of the game's service.

Because servers have been down a lot.....

It is due to the first 24 hours of the games service. The game is spectacular.

Game's getting slammed on Metacritic, I swear this happens with pretty much every major PC gaming release.

Why are you guys the 'Master Race' again?
The metacritic user reviews are so stupid. Makes PC gamers look like children. Same thing happened with SC2. I also hate when the media outlets bring it to light.
It's not just PC gaming, it's gaming in general. It happens on every release, a group of vocal people which normally is a small subset of gamers bitch and complain about something they don't like if it's the online only aspect or the ending of ME3. They bring the user reviews and the amazon reviews down because they think they are making a difference and not making themselves look like idiots.

I still think that amazon reviews should only be allowed if they bought the product on amazon but there's no way on metacritic to prevent review bombing like that.

I don't think it's that strong of a user based backlash, it's always a vocal group that makes it seem bigger than it is, It's due to first 24 hours and how the servers were on and off and also to the online only drm.

No I'd heard, I just wondered whether the backlash had any reflection on the final product. I think the game looked quite good.

Had no idea that phrase was bannable, sorry.

@Lothars - It just seemed to me that it was mainly the PC crowd who were more vocal in general. Dragon Age 2, Duke Nukem Forever, Crysis 2, Brink and now this are all very PC focused titles, and it seemed like they met similar fates.

3 o clock! Time to leave this shit hole called work! Gotta hustle through errands to go play.

Your gif posting is reaching Kodoo levels.

The game is awesome, everyone just got pissed because of the server issues from the massive amounts of users and other server errors. Thats it. Other than that, the game is excellent.

This and Max Payne 3 are the only two summer releases thus far to live up to the hype.

Having just beaten normal, I'd give it a solid 9/10. Obviously I haven't experienced nightmare/hell yet, but I've experienced the story. In general, I found that
plot points were pretty telegraphed
and that they do fall into the trope of
nearly identical, gigantic dungeons that you just want to end already after fifteen minutes

The ability to create your own character is definitely deeper than D2. Maybe I won't feel that way when OP builds are out there that everyone is using (again), but for right now, there are just so many combinations. No one is going to have exactly the same build.

I don't know what else to say about it right now. There are definitely some UI annoyances that I can't believe made it into the final game (if I want to shoot something on the left of the screen, I may click a party members face and get stuck in a menu. If I want to shoot something on the right hand side of the screen I might click social and get stuck in that menu. ) but everything else (from how parties form and stay together, and the general difficulty) was fine for me.

I think the AH is pretty cheesy after using it. This should get better in later difficulties, but any time I ran into a gear check in normal, the solution was only a couple thousand gold away. It felt like cheating to be honest.

Now I really just want to PVP...

There is no sudden user backlash, Metacritic user review scores are nonsense. Like Amazon review bombs.

I think there is a bit of a backlash over the always online. But Blizzard did explain this and the reasoning behind it way ahead of game release so the Amazon reviews are a bit one sided at the moment given the overall situation.

Max Payne what? Oh yeah that other game that came out. I'll get to it in a year or two after I'm done with D3

Wizards are fun as far as elemental attacks go, Witch Doctors are more on the summon/ explosives and debuffs side of things it seems. Both seem like fun if you're more inclined to the magic side of things.

fuuuuuckkkkk can anyone help me kill
DIABLO in normal

I have died 10 times in a row i cannot get passed the
2nd phase
Champions in this game... like wtf.

Weird choice for spoiler tags.

No... it happens with ANY game that ultimately ends up disappointing its customers. Skyrim PS3, ME3 ending, ect. It has nothing to do with just being a "PC" title.

And i would hardly call a bunch of people who have barely played the game due to a rocky launch a day after release giving the game a 0 a notable source. Its like hating a highly paid athlete who underperforms his first week and eventally turns it around by the end of the season to become MVP. Do I think D3 will become an "MVP" game? Meh, i haven't played it enough, but what I HAVE played, I have enjoyed it plenty and when it becomes stable (if it isn't already, Ive been at work all day) it will be completely undeserving of the already unwarranted poor ratings.

Seriously... "I give this game a 0 because I had to wait 5 minutes in a queue" is not a user review to pay much attention to.

How hard is it to catch your friends up in this game? Im almost level 30 and my friend just got it today. We want to group but im not sure if I should just roll an alt with him or if i could just boost him to 30 with my main..

My friends were 15 when I started, there was a lag for 30 or so minutes where I wasn't getting much of anything, then once I hit 5 or so it started speeding up significantly, and towards 13 (they were 19 by that point) it slowed down again. I would almost recommend your friend grind to 15 and then join you.

I'm downloading the game now, can I close the launcher and continue to download later? Would it resume? Or am I stuck downloading it, because I don't see a pause button.

I'm probably too DPS-focused. The one thing I have going for me is 20+ HP gained per smack. Nice with duel wield. I can basically sit there and tank most mini bosses and watch my life climb.

The problem is big hitters and casters...just over 1k HP at level 25. Two hard hits connect and I'm a goner.
I'm around the same level and have 1.7k life. Gotta stack that vitality man. The passive that converts spirit spent into life was a godsend to me btw. It basically makes all your skills healing abilities. I'd recommend that to any Monk with survival problems.

If you close it, when you re-open it it'll scan the files that are already on your hard drive, then resume downloading the remainder. At first it'll look like it's started at 0% again but that's just how it looks, it's actually scanning.

Anyone downloaded the starter edition recently? I want to make sure the game does not run like ass before purchasing...but cant find it

I do not even see Diablo as an option under "download clients" in my battlenet account page

; (

edit: nvm figured it out. The bliz instructions are completely wrong

Is there any downside to having an NPC companion? Wondering if I'd be better off going it solo.

All I needed to know, thanks!

Whether that phrase is bannable is irrelevant, you act incredibly condescending in your post and wonder why you're met with hostility? Really?

I don't understand what your asking. Did you create a battlenet account? You should be able to post on the Diablo forums if you created a battlenet account and tied Diablo to it. You don't need WoW. If you have the retail version it should have asked you to create a Bnet account when you were installing the game. You can still do so on the website.

When I log into battle.net, it shows my WoW character that is tied to the account. My subscription is not currently active (apparently hasn't been since 2/11 which seems crazy to me.. time flies). I tried to comment on an item but it said I could not post because the account was frozen.

I encountered this when trying to post on the message board as well because it's using my WoW "persona" as my face on the forums so to speak. It's not really recognizing that I have Diablo 3 registered I guess?

Here is what I see when I try and post at the Diablo 3 forum even though I have activated my D3 code and it's associated with my battle.net account. I can't change the image on the right to not reflect my WoW account which is currently frozen.

Just experienced my first instance of severe lag. It just happens to be with 2 champions hammering on my Witch Doctor. No idea how I barely survived but I'm so relieved that I did. I bet someone somewhere just lost their hardcore character lol

Can someone tell me what the point is to placing your banner down in front of you?

Its key binding is 'G' by default.

I can't think of a reason.

Just wondering.

Wow, sorry guys, it's abundantly clear on many popular sites that there is a strong (user based) backlash against this game.

There is no backlash. The launch had a few tiny hiccups, and the outrage was outsize because people want this game like junkies want their heroin. All the clamoring on reddit and twitter will have died down in a day. In fact, it has already died down as servers are stable now.
