What are the easiest and most fun jobs for a first timer?

I'm currently seeking a job in my area and was wondering which places shall I apply to that are easy and fun to work at. So far on my list I have Chick-Fil-A, Kroger, and Target.

The only thing that would really make a first job "fun" would be finding a work environment that has fun people in it. I don't really think ANY entry level jobs are going to be fun on their own :p

Target, to me, was a perfectly fine first job. They hire tons of high schoolers and early college kids. Lots of time hanging with other people your age. Go for sales floor or electronics. If you want a little more freedom try what they call "instocks", you kinda do special projects that way.

Nothing really that much fun. My girl worked at Walgreens in the Photo dept. I guess that is not that bad for first jobs.

You need to find people like me (sense of humor, very laid back, but still does an excellent job) to work with and you'll have a blast.

My first real job was working in a grocery store from 15-19 during high school (high school in Ontario was still 5 years at the time). Comparing my experiences to the experiences of people in fast food, I think I had the better deal. If you are over 18, you have more retail options. I have known people who enjoy retail, but it takes the right personality.

Full service gas station.

Mine had very little business, so it was like being paid to play DS and listen to the Bombcast. $10.25/hr!

to be blunt almost no entry-level jobs are going to be "fun" or "easy". typically the job expectations are so low and the type of work is so tedious/mundane the only saving graces about them are one or both of the following:

-your co-workers
-the type of products your workplace sells

i'm going to assume as a gaffer you're into games, electronics, and movies. from what i've heard best buy doesn't do commission-based sales, which means there's no idiotic quota to fill on merchandise moved. obviously you need to be selling things enough for them not to fire you, but you'll be selling things you're already into and moderately to expertly knowledgeable in.

or find a job where your friends work.

I'd recommend an amusement park if you have one near. I worked at Sea World for my first job and it was great. Probably because everyone was my age. Some of the jobs sucked though... like arriving at 6am to wash down all of your area's sidewalks. (From spilled sodas and whatnot.)

Also helps if your boss is crazy, old and bored with life and has lots of money. I had a job at a foodstand run by a German guy who was basically just bored with life and had all the money he could need. I could eat and drink whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted and we played chess whenever there weren't customers.

I bet that was actually pretty cool.

OP I would suggest something in retail would be a good starter job. You have contact with the public, you have to manage your time wisely, work with others, etc. All around nice package to start that resume building. My second job was in retail and I enjoyed it for the most part (except for the pressure to sell extended warranty scams...err I mean plans). If your co-workers are cool you can have a pretty good time.

My first job was dishwashing. It was hard to sell yourself on that one since you spend most of the day in the kitchen, simply doing a robotic task of taking dirty dishes and making them clean. lol

One of my first jobs was as a bagger for a grocery store. It was pretty fun because it was mostly shenanigans.

My first job was pretty awesome looking back, I was a "loader" at a hardware store. Most of the time I spent collecting carts in the parking lot, and when someone bought a large appliance like an oven or refrigerator or whatever I helped them get it into their truck. I'm not sure if it's any better now but I worked there from 2007-2009 when the economy was really bad and there was a LOT of downtime. If a manager caught us lounging around we'd get chewed out and given a shitty assignment like cleaning a bathroom or something, but as long as we stayed out of sight us loaders were free to hang out, chat up the cashiers, dick around outside, etc.

At the time I hated it because it felt like I was wasting my life away every shift, and I'd definitely prefer to never have to work retail again, but it was a laid back job.

Like other have said, most entry level jobs are some mixture of shitty and boring, and your enjoyment is going to be determined mostly by how well you get along with your coworkers.

Fun Anti-Social Job: Gas Station Attendant (Especially Late Night), Theme Park
Fun Social Job: Movie Theater, Job Where Your Friends Work
Do Not Work At: GameStop

Night filling at my local supermarket was a blast after finishing high school. Very cruisey, short shifts nightly, lots of hijinks and cool laid back people.

I only wish I had something that pressure free again, fuck!

Don't do it. It's anti-fun and a terrible place to work. I speak from experience. And the pay is shit.

Be a sales person at Target its the easiest job i've had. You don't really sell. Don't make the mistake of being a cashier its dreadful. Non stop people with like 40 items each.

don't do anything with sales goals and commission.

OP, you should tell everyone you interview with exactly what you're looking for.

"Hi, I'm ______, thanks for giving me the opportunity to speak with you. I've never had a job before, but I definitely know I'm looking for whatever is easiest and most fun. I guess my first question to you is, will I actually have to work hard or focus on something besides my own amusement at your fine company? If so I have another interview at 3:00 I should really be leaving to get to."
