Too bad. This is Nintendo. You're getting interactive Mario. He'll have his face and hands pressed up against the inside of the subscreen, and he'll be shouting "Help me, I'm-a stuck inside-a this controller… woohoo!"

Sod Mario, I can't wait until we get a Rabbid stuck inside the DRC...shaking the poor little bugger about is going to be full of Instant Win with oodles of Awesome Sauce. I love those bunnies lol.

I'm hoping that the untitled Rabbids game is going to be on a par with the first one, it's the best of the lot by far imo...the others didn't have anywhere near as much content.

Nope, just an opinion of mine.
It depends very much on the situation. For bigger studios, creating your own engine could be a more wise decition. But for smaller developers, it can be very benifital to license an engine instead. It saves tons of time, which means that they can save money.

I'm keeping that prediction. I know there's 99% chances I'm wrong. But if SOMEHOW I get that 1%, I want my 15 minutes of glory.

phff... UE4 on WiiU is a smart move, but it does not have to take up Nintendo's conference time or even show floor space

a press release from both companies is enough

If Sony or Microsoft had any doubt about showing their next console at E3, they would have said something like "We don't comment on rumours/speculations." No, here they flat out said they won't show it. Kaz Hirai himself said it about the PS4.
And the end of Sony's conference, Kaz pulls this up from his jacket pocket:

ps9.jpg

Then he turns around, walking of stage, and on the back of his jacket is says "PS4, Spring 2013, believe".

Microsoft flat out denied the slim before it was unveiled at E3, so they are more likely (and that's why I said maybe Sony). Tell you what, if we get through June 4th without seeing UE4, then I'll start to believe it's possible.

So Rare recruits for AAA games (probably an action/adventure fps) for the next Xbox ?

An interesting parallel with the recent recruitments at Retro. Two cherished western developers with Nintendo roots, one dedicated to the future Microsoft platform, the other for Big N !

Rare VS Retro

Round 1 !

FIGHT !

“It is up to Epic, and Tim Sweeney in particular, to motivate Sony and Microsoft not to phone in what these next consoles are going to be. It needs to be a quantum leap. They need to damn near render Avatar in real time, because I want it and gamers want it—even if they don’t know they want it...

BECAUSE NINTENDO IS ALREADY ON BOARD WITH WII U!"

._.
This is a very, very speculative hypothesis of course, but let's picture a GPU as a circle and UE4 as a rectangle that needs to fit in said circle. Now, instead of increasing the radius of the circle (GPU power) until the rectangle fits in, maybe Nintendo simply made the circle an oval... ;)

What method are you guys going to use to get the WiiU at launch?

Previously I always stood in front of Toys'R'US early morning of launch day. This worked great for both GC and Wii.

I wonder if I should do the same for WiiU.
Camping for a preorder. I moved back to this city after being away for 15 years, and I'm scouting GameStop locations already. There's one GameStop that's 5 blocks away from my apartment, so I'm tempted to go with that option. The waiting area is covered, too, which would come in handy in the event that we get rain.

So long as there's a midnight launch, I'll be there at midnight to start the preorder line.

The Speculation thread has officially turned into this?

@BY2K: Stop trying to outcrazy me! DON'T TAKE MAH JERB!

I really fear that UE4 will take all attention away from everything else at E3.

Is Wii U really as underpowered as it seems? That you have to put pics of 360 games next to Wii U games in order to notice a marginal difference? From what you said, it's smaller than the GC->Wii jump...

I would not say the jump is as small as GC to Wii.

That said UE4 being debuted by MS or Sony would be done delibertly to make a power statement

Anth0ny's not going to be convinced by anything less than an announcement at this point. Trust me; I can read reactions like this after having gone through it so many times.

You said it's a 360 and Wii duct taped together. That's like 360 +10% (396?).

Microsoft or Sony will end their show with a tease of the future. Will get a full days worth of media attention before Nintendo even hits the stage.

Will be an interesting E3

That's been my prediction for a while. I don't think Sony and Microsoft are going to give E3 to Nintendo that easily. A mere tease of their next consoles will have EVERYONE talking about it, and steal a good deal of thunder away from the Wii U.

ALlow me to be positive for once. Looking at how some screens from the UE4 fail to impress, i could imagine, if the next gen has some rough begenning, that Nintendo can blur the line in his favor if the WiiU shines with 360+ graphics.

WiiU is an oval that is bigger than the UE4 rectangle....

WiiU more powerful than UE4! :p

Nice analogy btw. Basically Nintendo tweaked a few components instead of scaling the whole system by a factor to accommodate UE4 requirements.

I'm assuming the changes were mostly in the GPU instruction set.

At least one of them will do it, it's nearly sure.

From the UE4 Thread:

Can we please stop this practice of linking to articles that just recap an article from another source? "Actively lobbying" for the consoles to be more powerful (which implies they are not currently powerful) is not a quote from Epic.

Quote:
“That means we can give detailed recommendations with a complete understanding of what is going to be commercially possible.”
Wired's interpretation:
Quote:
In other words, Epic has seen the specs of proposed new consoles and is actively lobbying for them to be more powerful.
Eurogamer's interpretation of Wired's article:
Quote:
Apparently Epic has seen the specs of the PS4 and next Xbox and is "actively lobbying" for them to be more powerful.

The original quote never specifically mentioned the PS4 or the NXbox. This could very well include the Wii U.

I dunno, they both very clearly and specifically announced that they would not be discussing new hardware at all during E3. Now, maybe it's a trick and they've actually hidden next-gen power in current-gen devices, so it's just a *software* update that will unlock the true potential...

Imagine the ruckus if they said "Our opponents are announcing what they call the first next-generation game console. But what if we told you the next generation is already here...and already in your home! Announcing, PS3 Mod 2!"

My previous post still stands. Now leave the insane predictions to me, k?

UE4 is going to be a major problem for Nintendo even if the same UE4 game on 720 can be done on WiiU using UE3 the damage will be in the minds of the core. Somehow I don't think Nintendo wants this as a issue in 2014

he tuk his herb... ;_;

duur der der duuuuur

Whats more important, framerate or resolution? For me its framerate. 30+ fps locked on most third party titles, and 60 for first party would be A-ok for me.

Yeah even if its just a heres Gears of War 4 for the nextbox 1080P 60 FPS look at it and drool kind of message it will get the point across
As Pachter correctly stated (yeah, it happens once in a while), the console makers are all publicly traded companies. If they lie in public, they're lying to their shareholders. Even worse in this case, as some people would know beforehand (-> insider trading). So considering Microsoft clearly stated that they will not talk about the next Xbox, they most certainly won't show the next Xbox in any form. Not even a teaser. So no UE4 at Microsoft's showing, unless they demo it for Windows 8. The same thing is true for Sony, and I believe they also clarified that there'll be no PS4 in any shape or form.

If Sony or Microsoft had any doubt about showing their next console at E3, they would have said something like "We don't comment on rumours/speculations." No, here they flat out said they won't show it. Kaz Hirai himself said it about the PS4.

maybe that's because the ps4 won't be next gen, like the wii u.

I can imagine dudebro gamer picking up the UE4 version of a game even if it looks identical to the UE3 version, because you know, he can totally tell which middleware was used just by looking at the game.

Didn't BlackNMild2k1 say that his friend was a developer and Wii U was running UE4? I'm going with that one because I like being positive.

Can I choose anti-aliasing instead? I really wanna see fewer jaggies. I know we'll still see plenty, but man.. to just reduce that effect would be great.

Running UE4 is one thing (personally I expect the Wii U to see UE4 games on it at some point), but Epic actually unveiling UE4 on stage at Nintendo's E3 conference is something else entirely.

Guys...I need the wiiU to come out this week so something can tear me away from diablo 3. I've played an obscene amount of hours in 2 days. And to think 90% of that OT has played more than me.

E3 why u so far.

You can have both. Post-processing anti-aliasing is super fast and cheap, hardware-wise, and does an excellent job of reducing jaggies. If you're really picky about super-sampling, then you might as well buy a nice PC, because no console developer is going to prioritize it.
