Obviously.

And GAF will judge Wii U's capabilities based on the ones that don't look any better (or in some cases worse) than 360 versions.

Its an interesting spot for Nintendo. They would obviously be best served by having been working with certain studios to make visually outstanding games and then demo those at E3. They have the stage and can set the tone to some degree because as you said and lets be real here.

The Media is likely going to trash the shit out of the WiiU

Serious question...

Is there any chance that even the developers working on the wii u dev kits don't know exactly what the specs are? Could information like Teraflop performance, clock speeds, and such be withheld from 3rd party software engineers? Of course they'd need some info, like memory, but do they need to know the nitty gritty details of its performance?

Why, please explain?

Only UE4 or Samaritan at the conference would have prevented that, and even if Nintendo had decided against using that controller and put the money toward better hardware, it still wouldn't be one of Epic's target platforms.

Why?

Not saying it wont happen, but its a new system. The media should at least pretend to embrace new hardware and give it a chance to prove itself.

Of course that will probably not happen since gaming journalism is mostly shit.

Well I should clarify and say Gaming Media. Mainstream will probably be mixed depending on how much they want to circle jerk apple in the articles.

Gaming Press will complain about power of course and probably make comments about this being Nintendos effort to regain the core and such

You don't believe there is any chance Nintendo may exceed their expectations on the console's performance?

I see it being plagued with "Too little too late" and "The games shown seem fully doable on whats out there now". Along with Port begging of exclusive 3rd party games (if any) and then articles of "So now we know how Mario would look like if he was on the 360 to begin with"

I'm meaning the LEDs I'm assuming are on the padlet - to let it act as a mini TV/sensor bar combo for the Remote - and the camera in the nose of the Wii Remote.

As I see it, it works something like this:

-- You set up the padlet in a particular location.

-- You calibrate by pointing to the centre of each screen and pressing a button. You've now set the gyro data that says where the Remote/TV/padlet are in rough relation to each other.

-- Now, when you move the pointer off one screen and aim it the other the pointer should appear when the Remote is in the correct position, and the camera recognising the LEDs "reinforces" that.

-- Now the pointer is locked to the other screen, the Remote works in the same way as always.

I'd imagine there might be the potential for a lot of drift with this, but I'm sure you could come up with a clever way of recalibrating on the fly to counter that.

EDIT:

Although GameplayWhore is probably correct here. It's a simpler solution, though still using the gyro data but with only one calibration point.

I suspect that AILive will update their middleware to take care of self-recalibration withthe inevitable LiveMove3 the same way that LiveMove2 does since MotionPlus was available. It recalibrates itself whenever the remote is held still. That's why it's very rare to need to manually recalibrate MotionPlus after the initial calibration when playing Red Steel 2. It's really annoying that Nintendo don't use it themselves imo, there'd be no need to press down on the bloomin d-pad every 5 minutes if they did.

*Shakes fist at stubborn Nintendo*

The absolute highlight of E3/GAF last year, actually. That was classic.
That was pretty terrible. Just goes to show you that regardless of how Wii U games look people will lash out. So when we do finally some games running on the Wii U, don't expect the people to change their opinions :P

Nintendo can do something nothing short of gamechanging and innovative, but it will catch flak in the process. It's just how it is.

You can say that about anything in the industry, but its kinda obvious Ninty is the favorite to nark on. IGN just stirs the cauldron so much... "Why does the Wii U not have a multitouch screen?", "Wii U Price Headaches" "Wii U hates shooters?" "Is the Wii U a pathetic chance to regain the core audience? Let us know" are headliners I wouldn't be shocked to see.

Shit like that.

Mario Kart U is a likely candidate for april 2013 release. Will it be at E3? If yes, in which form? Logo + screenshots, short teaser trailer or actual gameplay?

As I've said before in this thread, the only way to counteract this is to start the Nintendo E3 event by showing footage of the 360 version, then showing the Wii U version afterwards which is clearly superior.

That's the only way they'll get rid of the Last Gen stigma.

They might just be stupid enough to do that. I wouldnt be surprised.

The thing is that 90% of PS360 ports will look exactly like the PS360 versions. The only games that will truly make the most of the hardware will be exclusive, and most people who think the Wii U is "on-par" will convince themselves that they could all be done on PS360. Confirmation bias in action (although the same could be said for Nintendo fans who still think the console is going to be some kind of beast, for that matter).

Honestly, without knowing anything and without making any concrete predictions, I have a feeling the Nintendo E3 conference will be mind blowing. I'm talking better than E3 2010 - which was one of the very rare cases when even most of the enthusiast press was completely on board. I expect a great show, tons of games, and very unexpected surprises. Nintendo had extremely impressive showings unveiling the Wii in 2006 and the 3DS in 2010, and now we also have panic mode Nintendo which gave us stuff like the 3DS Conference 2011, one of the events with the highest density of new announcements I've ever seen, and finishing with a completely unexpected megaton to boot. Nintendo might even exceed all that this time.

This is true, and then you will have to deal with those that won't ever accept the superiority, and then those that compare it to PCs, etc..

Can't they look exactly like the PC versions of the PS360PC ports? That I don't understand. With all this extra headroom wii u provides, why not start with the PC build?

"(although the same could be said for Nintendo fans who still think the console is going to be some kind of beast, for that matter)."

Well, this fan is hoping the big games from Nintendo hold up very well against the Bird and Zelda demos. That it will look not at all out of place having clips of those demos as part of a sizzle real of Wii U exclusive games. That is my confirmation bias. I'd be pretty crushed if the games don't look like they came from the same system as last year's demos.

Don't forget, 2001 and 2002 E3 events also had very positive buzz from the gaming press.

And you can expect a lot of articles after E3 calling Wii U the Dreamcast of our generation or calling it "Dead on Arrival".

Sadly you can't win with the gaming media. All you can do is get excited about all of the amazing Wii U games that Nintendo will show.

Games will be where Nintendo will and has always been victorious.

I tend to agree with you that I think Nintendo will be very aggressive on games and such. Iwata has teased partnerships that no one would have considered before.

Because even if you have higher quality assets, etc., you still have to go through the process of optimising it all for Wii U, which takes time and effort. Conversely, if a given set of assets gets the game running at Xfps on XBox360, then you can just use those and know that you're not going to get any performance difficulties.

What was so special about last e3 for 3DS? The only thing I remember hearing about was Luigi's Mansion and Super Smash Bros 2014.

All of the demo impressions of Kid Icarus and Mario 3D Land were pretty mediocre.

I don't remember any other significant announcements for the machine.

I think I might ignore most of the gaming media come E3.
They tried so hard to make the 3DS a flop, they'll try even harder with the Wii U.

3DS Conference 2011, not E3 2011.

Oh I agree.

If anyone pays attention, they'll notice that the gaming media has been trying to kill Wii U before the can even properly show it at E3.

They've thrown every negative article about it possible from low specs, to nobody having interest in it, to devs finding the dev kits hard to work with.

The media has thrown everything but the kitchen sink to kill Wii U's hype and excitement.

It's no wonder investors are scared of Wii U's future. The media is trying to kill the console before anyone knows much about it.

I'll be straight up disappointed if the multiplatform games don't look better, or at least run better on the Wii U.

A handful will. Gearbox have confirmed that Aliens: Colonial Marines will, and I have a hunch that Assassin's Creed 3 will have a modest upgrade, but I'm not getting my hopes up much beyond that.

It's not going to detract me from buying the thing, but it likely won't be with any non-exclusives.
