This skill system > D2 to me. It does need one more tier to make it more interesting but D2 is pretty boring to me, no variation after you get the attacks while you get a bunch of variations with this system, Wizard has some nice differences between runes and accommodates some playstyles. I do think scaling with skill points would have been interesting but then it'd lead to too much build talk.

I agree. I think there's room for another level (maybe 2, but that may be edging on too complex) of depth. They had this before when runes were items and increased in power. The current system works, but it's not quite where I'd like it to be - they need to have the increase of power for specific skills (more than just the affixes which don't have nearly as much variation as I'd like.)

We'll almost certainly get an improvement in the first expansion.

Rune system is awesome. Love the experimentation that goes on.

I still wish we could allocate our own stats, though. Just allow respecs later on.

I don't think it's make or break either way. You can still have a broken character if you don't itemize properly. Including customizable stats would just be sort of redundant - another layer of complexity that wouldn't be adding much.

The rune system is pretty shit. The changes runes introduces are, more often than not, unintersting and don't make a big difference. I'd would've much prefered a classical skill leveling system like in DII or Sacred 2. It gives you a much better sense of progression. In D3 they might as well unlock every skill from the beginning, it wouldn't make a difference at all. It's not like you get stronger through skills. So why not let me choose from the very first moment...

The rune system is hit or miss depending on the class you're playing. I find myself making interesting choices and looking forward to levels on my monk, whereas my DH only seems to get boring abilities and even more boring runes.

Rune system is excellent. As Witch Doctor I'm continually switching things around every time I unlock new runes. It creates great incentive to experiment with different combinations, as certain skills synergize nicely together along with passives.

It's not fun rushing through the game, at least for me. And definitely don't want to miss out on some optional dungeons and such.
After beating the game once, "rushing" is a viable option.

When I first saw Demon Hunter reveal, I always thought I would go for female as she looked much cooler. But after looking at higher level Demon Hunters, I actually prefer male Demon Hunter. I prefer the look of the armor, it looks much more heavier and powerful. Same with the Monk, when that got revealed, I always thought I'd go for male Monk after the reveal, but I actually prefer female Monk. Male Monk doesn't look as good with it's higher tier gear compared to female Monk.

Basically this is what I am going to roll with
Barb - Male (though Female is also cool)
Monk - Female
Demon Hunter - Male
With Doctor - Male
Wizard - not sure yet

Wow, game looks worlds better with DARK 3D mod: http://darkd3.com/

I used the sharpening and the medium option. Looks MUCH more like I imagined a Diablo game, esepcially in the "ugly" areas. If you see it first you may think "eh that doesn't look much different at all" but you can switch it on and off with the pause button and then the difference is very noticable. There is no going back when you saw it once, vanilla D3 looks very cartoonish in comparison. Try it.

Random minor UI quibble:

When you have the social panel open, you can see the name of the character, the class, level, number of people in the parry, and quest a friend is on. However you can't see what difficulty they're on. You only see the difficulty when hovering over their name on the quick join buttons - and doing that you lose some of the information that you have on the social panel.

It's just weird. Especially since the social panel when open covers up the quick join stuff.

This is what I'm planning on using aswell. Looks much better than the default settings.

75% magic find...Kill the first 2 bosses of Nightmare..Only blue drops. Something is wrong here.

Nah, nothing is wrong, around 60%+ if you run through whole sections, you will notice the difference in the number of rares, blues found. 2 bosses killed is 2 roll. Statistically, it is nothing.

The game's art looks fine - great, even, for the most part. DarkD3 is gross. Talk about fucking up the image. Don't even want to imagine what Act 2 looks like with it.

I think ideally, they could put in runes for runes.

Plus that isn't even one of the best looking spots in the game. Compared to later locals most of Act 1 is an 'eye sore'.

Hunter is 3/4 through Act 2 nightmare (would be further in but i play it with a group of 3 other friends, we plan on trucking through and getting to hell mode in about an hour) I really really enjoy the hunter and i had problems with nightmare and dying a lot until i caved in and spent a good chunk of gold on the AH and now at level 41 i have a little over 12k HP and do over 2k damage. I see a lot of hunters doing Multi/Rapid over dual chak and i don't know why because i completely smash through giant groups of enemies like a hot knife through butter with my chaks.

Wizard
3/4 through Act 1 nightmare and to me Wizard is just stupid powerful, i completely smashed through normal mode solo with 0 problems and i am just blowing through act 1 nightmare like it's on easy mode.

Really really dig the game and can't wait to invest in a new PC, running on a 4 year old HP laptop and run it on low and i do get around 40+ fps but i noticed when playing with 4 people the FPS can drop down to 10fps when tons of enemies are around and everyone is spamming. Can't wait to get to hell mode tonight and i swear it's like blizzard put a -100000% magic find curse on me because i found 0 rares in Act 1 NM on my hunter other then the bosses and none in Act 2 so far and everyone else is finding them left and right, still no Legendary items yet as well :(

I went with female hunter because my main classes in both Diablo and Diablo 2 were Rogue/Amazon and both were female so i thought it would be fitting.

Finally installing this later today, are all those negative reviews on metacritic merit worthy? Seems a lot of fans are disappointed.
Don't ever visit metacritic.

99.99% of the complaints are from the terrible launch, i have yet to find one person who played Diablo/Diablo 2 religiously say this game is disappointing. I have heard uninformed complaints about people comparing this to REAL rpgs which is completely stupid to me, it's a dungeon crawler that revolves around loot and PVP, you don't play these games for the master storytelling.

Exactly... Or the end of Act 3....

Sure, on the technical side, the game is nothing crazy but the art style and the overall look of the game is amazing.

We have more than enough grey and brown games since the latest generation started, I'm happy to what they did with D3.

I'm finishing up Act 2, and so far I've quite enjoyed the voice acting and banter and incidental dialogue. The broader story arc is not anything special and the villains are kinda Saturday morning cartoon villains, but they've always been that in Diablo. Much better than Starcraft 2 so far in all the story/lore related stuff.

I had to do the same thing, was getting absolutely rocked on NM, dead in 1-2 hits and taking forever to kill things. Spent about 75k in the AH upgrading everything and now it's fairly easy. What build are you using for your Wizard?

For me it'd have to be 3>4>2>1

There's nothing wrong with Act 1 or 2, I just preffered the settings for the final two much more. Also, those damned wasps on act 2 own me every damn time as my level 39 Wizard has really low HP on Nightmare. If I get hit once it's me dead on it. :X

For the most part yes, but I think they made a mistake in going too far away from runes being tied to your skill progression too. Now I can't have 7 split multi magic missile like you could before with a level 7 rune.

I think they could have incorporated the pros of both systems with minimal cons.

3 > 4> 2 > 1

I'm just really sick of 1, I can't imagine going through it again. I think WD will be the only character that hits 60 for me.

Normal mode, down! Almost too easy. Level 31 Monk

I'm riding a high over how stupidly powerful my Monk was on Normal. Even Final Boss Guy was easy as shit with this guy.

On to Nightmare!

Oh, for the acts, 3 > 4 > 2 > 1

Act 3 really seem to kick the pacing up a notch, with the amount of monsters and the variety of attacks they had.

Hopefully in the expansion

Yes. Only downsight is that it oversharpens the font and the UI. I can live with it though because the rest looks much more than I want a Diablo game to look like. Kinda takes the WoW look out of it.

2 as the best act? teh fuck

I'm watching the DVD Behind the scene... For some reason love to listen to Jay Wilson talk about the game lol. Not sure why, the way he talks or something lol.

2 as the best act? teh fuck

It has two of my favorite dungeon palettes in the whole game though.
Oasis (god I wish it lasted longer) and Kulle's Archives
.

Otherwise Act 2 is just sort of meh, with a great final boss.

1 I'm kind of sick of the early parts, especially through the beta content as I've played that so much. The latter part is okay though.

Hit a wall in act 2 hell, my barb just can't stay alive long enough despite having 25k+ health. Going to have to upgrade a lot of my equipment.

I'm probably running around with the same build for 20 levels now on my DH, because every new rune is followed with either disappointment or confusion. :(

Passives are especially bleh.

Here are two screenshots (spoiler setting ACT IV) with and without Dark D3. It doesn't do the mod justice, on your screen the effect is even better. It really helps, esepcially the sharpening. Why is that game so god damn blurry. Playing it on my TV, sitting 3 meters away, it's hard to see anything at all.

I use it for the sharpening, but pass SO SO hard on the color changing effects. Ugh.
