It's hammah tiiiime! So I can solo Act 3 boss pretty comfortable now on Hell Mode. Act 4 I'll give a try later cause I know the better loot is there so I can move on to Inferno with a little more ease. I know me and SD will be trying that out this week I'm sure.

Ugh, fuck poison dart, I'm done with this class. I don't think there's any way they could make bosses more boring.

Try a vision quest build some time, the feeling of power as you spam direbats with 300% mana regen is pretty cool. Then it gets old and you realize that it's a one trick pony.

are they really though? I used only DB for a while as well but then now i got Acid Cloud and i am loving that as well, it has a higher(wider) area of effect than DB and you have more range and can aim it at far away mobs!

I like Acid Cloud and want to experiment with Corpse Bomb rune but the main problem is that it cost a ton of mana to cast. 170ish mana for 175% weapon dmg over 3 seconds or 120ish mana for 220% damage instant and if the enemies are grouped together the Bat will usually hit more than one per cast as it travels through the target.

Saw at the EU auction house and found the legendary Gidbinn weapon (Witch Doctor). That weapon was a quest item back in Diablo 2 and the stats are insane aswell as the buyout price :O

I have just been buying Rare ceremonial daggers w/ High damage and intelligence/vitality buffs. Even the crap legendary WD gear on the US store is priced pretty high.

Edit: Holy @#$% the Gidbinn has got some rediculous damage! Glad to see there are some awesome Unique weapons still in D3.

You know, this picture made me realize another thing about the new rune system that I don't like. Why did they have to get rid of the previous graphics and names? I have no idea what runes are in those skills without looking them up. They all look like a bunch of squiggly lines. At least the previous incarnation of runes was helpfully color coded.

One of the developers mentioned at one point that they dropped the colored runes since they made people think there was a connection/theme of some sort between runes of the same color, when that wasn't always the case. Personally, I think ditching the old graphics/colors was a pretty big mistake, as the current runes are completely illegible. I have fuck all idea what rune I'm looking at just from the shape and lines. Besides just being bad in general, you can't interpret them from just a quick glance, even if you did know what each one was - you'd have to spend time processing it. Really poor design choice there. I was pissed off when it changed in beta, and still angry about it now.

Is this game playable using a Macbook Pro touchpad? Is there a way to setup the controls so that it works?

At a technical level? Yes. Actually playable? Fuck no. Just get a mouse. Trackpad wouldn't work at all on probably much past Act 1, and certainly not on higher difficulties.

Yeah, I played with it over Sweeping Wind at some point and it was satisfying to watch explosions everywhere. I want to try it again now that I have better weapons and more +Damage% in my build off of skills.

I use it WITH Sweeping Wind, lol.

To be honest, I wasn't sure it was possible to not solo him as a ranged class :x

For my set of skills, I'd have to replace Cyclone Strike with it, which would make my AoE Wizard and WD sad, or replace Breath of Heaven :( Maybe when I'm soloing, I guess...

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention. So after getting my five buff stacks of the Neph buff, I was near where the end boss of Act 3 was and there just happen to be a fortune spire for the extra 25%. So my gold/magic % was sitting at 100%. So I had 2 minutes to kill him. Which was done. And still, he only drops 2 yellows, and 10 blues. Go fig.

Naw, range have it so easy with that fight. Bosses are simple compared to the elite/named that you come across. If it's the chained/speed types, I can't do anything. They blow you up so fast.

i had 10mf when it dropped :S. My buddy with 0mf got a legendary so i'm starting to think the mf feature doesnt work or mf just isnt relevant anymore :(

Fast Fire Chains Desecrated/Arcane Enchanted in the tight corridors in the tower area of Act 3 kind of worry me :(

Any etiquette I should know of to playing Diablo III online? Either with randoms or friends.

People pretty much covered the basics, but also make sure you link your party any good items that drop. It goes a long way. First time I did a public game I got 2 very good rare Monk items that I gave to the random Monk player. Next day, he pops in my game and drops like 6 Barbarian weapons for me that he found whilst solo.

What kind of hp should you have for soloing Nightmare Act 2 as a WD? I'm having a bit of a tough time; I did go to the auction house and buy a new staff and that's helped. My DPS was only 700 I think and I just couldn't get the blues/yellows down fast enough.

I need to learn the different mob types. I just died to the damn disco ball of death right after I thought I took out a good group and was looking to loot.

I need to play test some things for near infinite Spirit (aka get more +Crit for Quickening) but Breath is nice for the Spirit generation buff and, when you don't need that anymore, the +Damage buff. Likewise for Blinding Flash +Damage buff instead of the confusion.

Love the options we have as a Monk.

I do too. There's a lot you can do with the class, and I'm playing completely differently in Hell than I did in Normal and Nightmare.

Monk is a great class.

I like Blinded and confused because it can alleviate constant damage to your character, but the damage buff is nice too.

noob question here: how can i even tell when a mob is "elite" or champion or whatever?

Are they just plain yellow or are there other ways to tell?

they'll have a yellow or blue shader on their model, and they'll have their affixes under their health bar (eg. arcane enchanted, mortar, fire chains, molten, etc)

I did this, with fire bats and acid cloud. Felt good, and a bit guilty. I had to change because I got in a group and didn't go back to it. I guess I should with hex in there (just found out I love it) instead of acid cloud.

That mass suicide dog build looks fun. I had fun with only 3 dogs + Sacrifice/next of kin it felt good blowing stuff up. I would plan the explosion with the recast, but before at least two of the dogs died. That would usually be quick but it was all for fun, with a extra dog and reborn dogs it could be even more fun.

I'm surprised hex transforms blues, and I think yellow (though I don't remember if it worked). The grasp of the dead usually have no effect on some of them, that or they already move so fast that the extra slow is a joke to them. Tried a bit of zombie wall, it's good if you can wedge them against a wall, but if it's just the wall they move around it fast. I'd like one of those U shaped walls the blue's have.

I think Hex transforms anything that's not a (giant) boss. I know it works on Belial pre-shift, for example.

Crippling Wave > Concussion
Sweeping Wind > Blade Storm
Mantra of Healing > Circular Breathing (I like going into fights with full Spirit; Boon is overall better probably with how much you'll Mantra spam eventually).
Breath of Heaven > Infused with Light
Cyclone Strike > Implosion (Group with Wizard and WD primarily so it's useful here)
Serenity > Ascension

Transcendence, Seize the Initiative, and One With Everything for passives. Dual Wield with Life Steal and Life on Hit for the weapons rather than +Damage.

The only real DPS increase you get from DWing is because you have more Spirit to spend. Granted, that's the majority of your DPS but Shield Monk is better survivability, no loss in per hit damage (most likely greater), and you still have good Spirit generation via skills. That said, with enough Spirit regen, I'd probably DW for the skill spam in the end (so, basically, you were right Opiate!)

Monks get to cheat with Seize the Initiative giving +1 Armor per DEX :x

swapped out an axe for a sheild and went with this and yeah I can see why this works!
Diablos grab would one shot me on phase 3, this time it did about a 3rd less!

It's probably a good thing that you can only list 10 items a time on Auction House.

Considering I would probably spend all my time there, otherwise.

It's like a gear check. You reach a point where you don't need the confusion anymore and can switch to the damage boost instead. It's kind of fun looking back and seeing all the other rune or passive changes I've done merely because my gear evolved to the point that something else did it better. For instance, enough Crit% makes basically everything else that generates Spirit useless compared to Quickening. My DEX got to the point that Seize the Initiative was amazingly awesome. My mitigation is high enough to no longer NEED Resolve or even Concussion (though, I still like Crippling Wave a lot).

...of course, that's pre-Inferno.

In Act 2 nm I had around 1k dps and 10k hp on my wd. Died to the act 2 boss twice then changed my spec and killed him on the third try.

There's even blues that are better than yellow items. The game is so random with stats.

Blues sometimes being better than yellows is fine and intended. It's when they end up being superior to legendaries (from the same difficulty level), that I take issue with. Legendaries are undertuned.

There are Blues with better stats, but they normally have less overall stats too. That seems to be the difference. I've had blues with higher DPS and more Int. But they also had nothing else on them. While my Yellow gives Vit, Damage to Health, and chance to crit.

Legendaries seem to have some odd stat, that is completely useless. While lacking DPS and the two basic ones each class need. The problem definitely seems to be how they itemized the game. I can ignore basically everything but two stats.

So I've a question about Inferno itemization:

Is each act a whole new "tier" of gear? In the sense that Act II would have a LOT BETTER stuff in it than Act I?

I ask because I'm farming Act I Inferno right now and I want to know if I should work on getting to act II and eventual IV ASAP for better stuff.

MF just increases the chance that you will get better loot to drop, it doesn't guarantee it. Even someone with 1000mf might get all magic items dropping from a boss. MF really starts to shine when you look at its value over time and how much more you get versus having little to no MF.

Yeah. Though Act II is supposedly a brick wall in difficulty.

Ofc there are ... seriously, I don't get this whole blue>rare>legandary thing.
It's simple. A blue has 2 stats most of the time, a rare ~4-5 and a legendary some fixed with ~3-4 random.
So yeah, a blue 80 dex 40 vit glove is better than a rare glove giving gold radius, mf and god knows what else shitty stats. But do you know whats even better? A rare glove giving 80 dex, 80 vit, 10% attack speed and 40 str. Only problem is ... stuff like that is rare(ha ...)

It's not even quality though, isn't it? Your odds of receiving a magical item at all just increased incrementally.

Even I'm not sure. The stat doesn't actually say what it does explicitly. My intial interpretation was just that you have better odds of seeing blue, yellow, orange items, but I've heard that it could increase the chances of getting better rolled items as well. There's nothing to support, or discount that theory though, from what I've read so far.

Basically. Magical -> Rare just means more stat slots so a greater chance of getting the bonuses you want. It doesn't really denote that it'll be better itself. I have enough Gold Radius, +EXP, Thorns items to blot out the goddamn sun. I've straight up sold so many rares :|

That's kind of why I like Gold Find% for the time being. At least lets me AH my stats rather than RNG them.
