Dragon's Dogma |OT| For the night is dark and full of terrors

Yeah, I'm kind of baffled at the problems you're having. I remember that exact area, even though I went there at level 14, I had no issues at all. My main pawn is always sniping properly, my mage pawn is buffing us properly, etc.

What causes quests to go dead? Just leveling outside them I suppose?

I...am not having problems with the AI. Another was. Mine work fine.

Say you've got 1 main quest mission open,and 2 side-quests.

If you do one of the sidequests, can you level up and lock yourself out of doing the other one?

I just don't like when the pawn AI does something stupid. When I mash down on the d-pad, I want them flocking to me right away. I don't like when they linger (healers tend to do this). I also freak out anytime I'm near ledges with great distances below since I don't trust them to watch their footing. I was on a narrow bridge earlier that had a treasure chest on it, and I almost had a panic attack since pawns love to jump like rabbits around those.

That aside, my only real problem with the AI is when you are escorting NPCs that are not your pawns. It's practically the equivalent of that Monster Hunter "carry the egg" crap. It's already bad enough that you can't see their little blue dot unless they're right near you. If you're having trouble with those quests, manually save often, abuse grab/throw, and don't be afraid to take detours/run when you get ambushed.

edit: I agree that the lighting in this game is phenomenal. There are so many little touches here and there with physics and special effects that it's no wonder the game runs like it does on both systems.

For me, I was given two points on the map to look for a tome. It wasn't at either and the markers disappeared. My pawn still mentions the quest, and the map just points me toward exits when I select the quest (if I'm in a city). NPC still treats me like I'm on the quest. Maybe I need to talk to more NPCs, I dunno.

Yeah, I am uncertain exactly what the d-pad things do.

Come = flock
Go = attack
Help = attack / cast healing/invoke something spell

Like if I'm hanging onto an airborne griffin and I want them to attack it do I say Go or Help?

I screwed up the quote, first part was supposed to be for the other guy. The part about quests going dead is for you, do you know what causes them to stop workin?

Gotcha sorry. Thread is moving fast! Hahahahaha.

When you level past them they turn gray. I usually try the quests right away but that causes some back and forth travel. I think in these kinds of games you have to expect some quests being grayed out due to time as well. Just like a person can't wait forever for you to find them 10 apples hahahaha.

Experiences thus far: The "boss" in the first Arisen quest committed suicide for me, which was odd. I was keeping my distance, using my bow, and had actually switched over to fighting the goblins, when I suddenly see him at the cliff... then gone, and suddenly the cutscene plays and I get the EXP. I was like "yay?"

Still scared to venture too far, so I haven't even FOUND the Witchwood. Is it off the first fork after the encampment?

Also can't do the Well quest. Just get overwhelmed by
lizards
. I'm about level 10.

But I am enjoying it!

Well, I've played most of the day, I think I need a break.

I'm level 22 now. This game is pretty much exactly what I expected, which means it's fucking awesome and I'm having a blast.

Thanks for the clarification, Karak!

Also, when do I get the ability to use materials to upgrade my equipment? I hope I'm not already able to and have just been missing it. :lol

That can be done at any time. Just find a person who offers that. You will need cash and materials with each level going up a bit compared to the first. One of the nice things is that the levels are cheaper than buying new items many times and really are GOOD upgrades. I am tired of games where upgrades don't come near the items you can buy.

And no problem at all. I am glad I could clarify something.

Oh, well, I guess what I meant to ask is when do I come across someone who can do it?

This game is one epic adventure after another.

Screw the reviews.

Correct. It has its issues but what is there is a grand and epic adventure made from various quests that really feel real in the world. Sure there is fetch quests but the game handles its scale up incredibly well. RIght until the end I felt completely wrapped up in it. I beat it in 3 sittings hahahahahaha.

The main city has a person. The smaller encampement and main village may as well. Because the game doesn't autohighlight anything you DON'T find, its possible I missed earlier options.

By dead I mean you have to wait until further on in the game to complete them.

Finally playing it. I'm taking screenshots whenever I find a new place/milestone/or just something cool.

This game actually looks better than the demo. Loving it so far. =D

Love it. Love it love it. Gonna feel like a real adventure when I finally get my other pawns and everyone starts talking. The combat is amazing and it feels good to kills dudes. Strider 4 lyfe.

They should have used that song thats played when you first leave the town instead of that awful main menu music.

Can't wait to get back into it tomorrow.

My god I'm glad this came out today. Long and tedious day at work and figured I could at least play for a little bit when I got home. Lost track of time and played a good 6 hours, yeah I really like this game. It has flaws, but I can enjoy the game still.

I think side quests can disappear as you progress on the main quest.

Not sure if that's what's going on here or not, but I haven't run into it. Then again, I tend to get distracted by all the side quests in these types of games.

First dungeon Seige 3 turns out to be a solid, well paced game for what it is (disregarding its pedigree), and now DD has me by the balls to the extent i've done little else since the midnight launch, including sleep.. so much good, the pawn system is fun..i tend to hire hippy dusky skinned chicas to fill out my squad, as my characters a male, and also because my name recalls a certain 70's show..

its hard, but not Demon/Dark souls hard, very lenient but still rewarding patience/planning..

i nominate the sword and board defensive strikes (AKA wolvesbane), the uplifting "antler strike" and bloody skewer strike to be the most satisfying melee attacks in gaming history, i popped 8 boners from 9 different nationalities when i one shotted a sword & board rouge with an upgraded skewer strike.

Check your HD. It does a background 4.5 gig install.

i remember someone assuring someone else that this wasn't the case..my harddrive suddenly being below 500 mb begs to differ -__-

Does my customizable pawn not show from the demo until a certain time? I just have this Rook dude.

Yes its just a little bit further

EDIT: Soooooo... i was trying out a new spell and went to jail. its not easy to get out at all. I had to bribe my way out. Anyone else experience jail?

Oh shit, I just realized all the food I looted from the first town is now all rotting. Didn't realize there was an actual time limit on it spoiling...I'm guessing rotten food has no point?

You gotta mix them with something right away, but if you don't have the ingredients - throw them away or try to give them as a present to certain NPCs to boost your affinity with them.

hihi, there are at least two airtight flasks in Cassardis to find ;)

the Brine already got me once. i was jumping around the cliffs, searching for chests and fell into deep water :'( most scary videogamedeath ever... but i found an iron shield in a chest. gave it as a gift to a rented pawn =)

I still haven't done any quests. I'm gathering everything I can find in town. I actually found a pouch with 3,500g in it!

Also, I've been getting 10xp from every seagull I kill. Lol I love Strider. =D

Fuck, just did the
escort
quest with
Mercedes
, and now you're telling me I can't even go into the goddamn
shadow fort???
.

I had to get past like 100 lizards,
a chimera, and a drake to get to it
.

Lost 2 pawns in the process, and now I've gotta go back to restore them x_x.

Christ, navigating through the woods at night solely by the light of your Magickal Flare is something special.

edit: So is hearing boulders falling toward you before actually seeing them, omg. "Hm? What's that? OH SHIT!" *roll*

Hey, sorry I'm not going through the full thread to see if this question already has an answer, but:

Is it true that the game only lets you have one save file at a time? Because I was pretty excited for this game, but one of the selling points for me was the potential for multiple playthroughs. This seems like a really awful and archaic decision on Capcom's part if that's actually the case.

One save at a time, yep. You can save to a usb drive(on 360) or the cloud if you want. So pretty much 3 saves (on 360).

What are the quests like in this game? Better than standard fetch or kill x number of ________? I'm oddly interested in this one.

Tomorrow my quest is to find a new magick bow, as I've had the same once since level 10 and I'm level 22 now. Better daggers than the stilettos would be nice too.
