Dragon's Dogma |OT| For the night is dark and full of terrors

I'm digging this game so far but man. The screen tearing is BAD.

the 360 copy has an atrocious amount of it. i've ran it in 1080 or 720 and installed it but no matter what i do the problem persists. Shit even tears when i rotate the camera around my character in the pause menu. In intense battles it's easier to push aside but just wandering around the world makes me want to jump off a cliff.

whoever said the first village was covered in vaseline was right - this game is rough around the edges for sure. I would take a patch that fixes the tearing any day over some goddamn rift crystals, god i am tripping rift crystals the only thing i have more of are tears in my screen.

after someone mentioned black bars I didn't notice them at all. I'm wondering if we can get rid of them also

EDIT: NVM

I'm loving this so far, just got to Gran Soren at level 11. The actual quest getting here was great, it turned to night at the final stretch for me and I had to fend off zombies before the gate was reached.

There's a LOT of stuff to find in the first city. I was able to buy the best daggers, bow, and armor before I even went through the gate for the first time. Even outside there's chests all over the place just off the path a bit.

Also, the song that plays at the menu is weirdly awesome. What's it called?

Glad you liked it because I swear I wasn't joking. It looks JUST like Vaseline. However, despite that the lighting in the game is great. Like I said a couple days ago. For every negative the game has a positive. Its insane.

I think its all awesome fucking theme song. Seriously that should be its name:)

that's why i keep playing - it's not like i'm not having a ball but jesus this was a sixty dollar game? should have been released later so they had time to make it run better.

Just went to find a new pawn. Some short fat dwarf named Barrels walked into my face and i swear to god i have never laughed so hard.

Barrels. God it was perfect.

Shop here has 2000 rift crystals as a pre-order bonus, is it worth getting for that and makes things easier early on or are rift crystals just something you end up quickly having a billion off and I wont care?

From what I've heard, the PS3 version does install, but it happens in the background while you're playing.

Found some bandits near a rolling boulder at the start of the game and was doing pretty well against them, until this fucking shield bandit came and 1 shotted me & my pawns.
I died like 8 times trying to kill him. Eventually I just gave up.

I'm curious about them, too.

Someone on Gamefaqs just put them up:

I think it does, because my PS3 sounded like GT5 pre-loading all the stuff at the start. It was making a LOT of noise for close to 30 minutes during the intro town.

edit: Yep, just checked my installed data on PS3: 4644MB for Dragon's Dogma.

So, if I find a safe rock before nightfall, will it stay safe? I beat an armored cyclops after at least 20 min of fighting thanks to a nice big rock, but its just about night fall now and I am far away from any safe place. Dunno what to do :(

From what I can tell it just costs more rift crystals to hire someone way higher level. So I could have spent all 2000 at once to immediately have a level 24 pawn when I was level 5, but I think that would be WAY too easy. Instead if you just pick around your level it's free, or maybe 2-4 if the pawn is a level or two higher.

The framerate is horrible in the encampment(360), I wonder how the ps3 fares there, haha. God, this game needed a pc version badly.

Just watched the review on Game Trailers. Looks like they are the 360 and the screen tearing is glaringly awful.

Is the PS3 version any better regarding screen tearing? If not, I think I'll just wait for the hopefully eventual PC port.

Wait what? I was in there like 30 minutes ago and it was fine.

Arg this game just needed to fucking cook. It basically pushes everything so far that like an overclocked machine it causes something to go wrong randomly when specific things occur. There is almost NO ability to plan on either system having a cohesive technologically sound game.

Which just goes to show, we had 2 full on freezes on the PS3 today. 1 in the encampment and one in the main city. Froze and let out the most god awful audio bug sound ever. Sigh.

Holy hell, I feel like I need to celebrate after successfully escorting Reynard at a low level. I almost cried when I finally saw the encampment flickering in the distance.

I kinda like the second to last hair so I can make a character similar to Beatrix in FFIX,
but even then, overall I wouldn't get it.

By being tempered by fire of Dark souls, going out at night isn't half as bad as I expected!

Still died after fighting an ogre for 30 minutes. Not to the Ogre, some random bandits jumped me while returning to the fort.

How does the save system work?If you had saved after the fight with the Ogre would it be possible to load the game exactly at the time and place you saved?

I can't seem to make this game dark enough at night unless I turn the brightness way down, and then that just looks bad... and I have the in game brightness setting set to 0, but I can still see everything at night without a lantern. I don't know what the hell the deal is. Dark Souls looked perfectly pitch black in the Tomb of Giants as it was supposed to, and I don't remember having this problem with the demo for this game

360 version? I tried both ps3 and 360 versions and the ps3 looked fantastic as far as black levels were concerned. The 360 one was washed out no matter what I did with the in-game gamma and tv settings.

Can you force pawns to use items? When I fought the cyclops my pawn kept dying because he was at about 45% health and died from one good hit. I gave him healing items but he didn't use them (probably waiting for lower health). When I revived him he was around the same health as before so he STILL didn't use it.

In other news: Daylight! I survived! (Love you big rock).

That's really weird. I have it set to 8 or 9 and it's dark as hell at night, can't see anything without a lantern.

PS3 version actually

I had the same issues with the PS3 version. I had to set the tv back to defaults and work from there. Something is slightly off with the DD settings themselves I think.

While the 360 looked fine on my projector my tv need adjustment.

I had to set it to minimum to get the symbol to almost fully disappear. It looks good now, but yea, they could have added in a few more tick marks of brightness settings.

ehh, where I have it now is acceptable I guess.

...now it seems I've encountered a glitch where I can only equip one piece of equipment at a time

Seraphis Cain

bad gameplay lol
Damn. I didn't realize my pawn would be so short. Didn't have any frame of reference in the creator, so I couldn't tell. She's way shorter than my main character and it looks a bit creepy...now I'm contemplating restarting the entire game just to remake her. Not that I'm all that far, but I really don't want to start over...

My copy of the game just arrived in the city a couple hours ago so it should, baring any disasters, be here tomorrow. I'm glad to see some positive impressions from Gaf, I'm looking forward to sitting down with the game myself.

Just restart. I've already done it once at a point a little farther than you and it doesn't take long at all to get back. Just skip the cutscenes and head straight to the pawn creation quest.

I just finished the intro, which I guess was the demo? I never DLed it. The frame rate looked like a perfect 30fps. I saw no stuttering and no tearing. Love the combat and spell effects, can't wait to dig in tonight.

I had to too turn the brightness up to 18/20 for my liking, might turn it down tonight. I defiantly don't see the game looking bright.

You're allowed one save. Game auto saves after certain actions. Killing certain enemies isn't one of them. You can manually save whenever you like, and it is overwritten by auto saves.

I neglected to save after killing it the first time.
