My friend and I have been searching for matches the whole day but we didn't find any. Found everything else one might need, but no matches. either we have terrible luck or they are quite rare.
Oh and the nerf to the Winchester hurts a lot, now that thing pulls as much walkers as the enfield or the CZ. :/

Oh man. Spent the last half hour trying to get some sense of direction after traveling aimlessly, using the sun as a sort of compass. I started making some progress and wasn't far away from the ocean, so it was all good. Got a phone call. Come back, a zombie's walking slowly towards me. I back up and shoot him dead. About 15 other zombies come outta nowhere and start chasing me for like 5 minutes. I try to shoot one of them every couple meters and just when their numbers are starting to dwindle, I break my leg and fall to the ground. Dead within seconds. Lost my Lee Enfield with 6 clips and a ton of food and water, which had been my biggest loot so far.
Damn this game...

I haven't tried it yet but Dwarden's installer drops a beta shortcut on the desktop http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2705492
There's new .exe under ArmA 2\Expansion\beta which you need to use, add the dayZ shortcut target etc.

The beta gets you in some nice and quiet servers. Most people don't seem to be able to get past installing dayz.

Fake edit: Server is up. HIVE is slow right now and our server, because it's new, is low on the login priority. But we should all be used to this by now.

Maybe FADE kicked in and is screwing your install
EDIT: Ah, didn't see you installing, thought I read launching. Copy the files to your HDD and install from there.

Does FADE affect installs? Thought it was only post install performance.
It could be a bad download or a hardware issue.
do not shoot zombies unless you absolutely have to.
And never run unless you are shure there is no zombie in the vicinity. Especially in cities.
Crouchwalk and crawl when near zombies. And do not shoot zombies just because they are there.
I used the crossbow for a while but find it is not worth the hassle with the inventory space bolts take up and spending several minutes trying to retrieve a bolt from a zombie

also you should consider the server only allowing latest beta patch, good way to filter bad elements (lazy players that often grief) from the server

I'd have to see if that's possible with the host. We would also need to make sure everyone is patched.
I had this issue because my PC was too slow. Don't know which bit, the CD drive reading the data or the harddrive writing it. Try installing in safe mode or with processes disabled. Try copying the disk contents to your HDD and running the install.
This is one thing that I like about some mods and pc gaming to a small extent. It kinda helps weed out kids and people who want quick pick up and play.
Um... one question, Nix: How the fuck am I supposed to stealth through cities with my crossbow without a reticule? The iron sights on that thing are screwy. 
Also, as soon as I spawned into the server, I got shot in the freaking kneecaps and bled to death in the wilderness way away from Starry. Damn DayZ!

After a long time finding a server that works I died within 20 minutes.
It was pretty freaking intense though. I was chased by zombies and barely managed to make it into a tiny shack before I bled out because I forgot I had bandages.
The night is a complete joke though. I mean a seriously huge joke.
Night is NOT that dark. A game where people recommend you change your gamma settings to see is an indicator of something that's wrong. It should be dark but this is ridiculous. No UK servers for me. I want to be able to see.

There should be pitch black servers for the people who enjoy a black screen and normal servers for normal people with normal eyes.

Just please oh please don't update it to the beta patch, I tried for ages to get that shit working with steam and combined ops and had to give up.
i killed 3 people around the time i received this message.
I updated to the latest beta patch today and did this:
1) Install beta patch
2) In Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead, rename _runA2CO.cmd to whatever (this is the file that is launched when running Combined Ops from Steam)
3) In the same folder rename _runA2CO_beta.cmd to _runA2CO.cmd
4) Edit _runA2CO.cmd and add "-mod=@Dayz" to the run line towards the bottom of the file
5) Survive!

Just had a great run solo. Capped a guy in a barn, kept adventuring. Karma caught me later when two fresh faces got me. I took the one I saw out, the other... no idea where he was.
Now I keep respawning in random places. Weird.

Daylight. Again the tree lines shelter me. Watching the town, my back. Hoping for a vehicle. The jerry can in my pack needs to be put to good use. I see burned out husks. One looks promising, but these binoculars help me little. The town calls. Unable to resist. I spare the shamblers as they spare me. So much ammunition, but no desire to put it to use.
No other men inhabit this town. Today I feel almost confident in exploring this town. Exploration for its own sake. No food or drink needed. Content with the arms I bear. Military redoubts. Failed in their purpose, leaving hospital and grocery unguarded. I wish not to reveal my position, and leave the hospital doors intact. The grocery is free for the looting. Full. I continue......................several feet away from the store lays my hope. A car! Almost too good to be true! Now I can move easily, with little burden from the dead. But of course its engine will be dead. Missing tires. Empty, save for what my jerry can may provide.
Working. No mechanical knowledge required on my end. Together we flee from Berezino. Northward bound. To Enduin, Gibs, Abs, Indigo.
Then I am back to the store. No car in sight. This cursed world has robbed me of that. Hallucinations? Nightmares? The night provides no relief. Rain falls in sheets. I stumble out of town disheartened, the dead in tow. Blindly shooting and drawing more. How I escape or how many I cut down remain unknown. By memory I make it northeast of the airstrip. Down to the airfield. Horror greets me. Enduin, Gibs, Abs, Stunt, Indigo. Dead. An unknown bandit dead among them. He, armed with nightvision and an M4 with ACOG. I envy the rifle. But I did not fell him, so it returns to his body. I hide among trees, waiting for this rain to pass.
The rain ceases. Joined once more by Enduin.
Mob, Stunt and Slope join. Gibs watches from his hills. Abs approaches. Slope hears shooting. Gibs, eager to find revenge. A man, spotted. A single crack. Abs' journey, ended. We explore for supplies. I scavenge what food I can. The rain and dead sapped me of strength. Things improve little. Regress greatly. My rations used. I carry no blood transfusions. Night and the dead overwhelm. Enduin retires. Mob and I hide in the comm tower, barring the doors. I pass out regularly. Slope and stunt dare not cross from the hangars. Our lives all nearly forfeit. Lights shine upon the comm tower! What fools would walk here with flashlights. Bandits have no need, seeing in the dark. Survivors, unlikely to take pity upon their fellow man?
Broken and BS. Having traveled the coast. Having commandeered a pickup. BS passing out, much like myself. BS staggers into the comm tower. Another car! Mob runs to the pickup. Into darkness we are thrust again. BS and I, fatigued. Near death. Two doors standing between us and the shamblers. Along the coast, BS had heard of Krappa raiding the hospital, laden with kits for blood transfusions.
Headlights approach. The glory of the four door sedan.
BS and Broken are off, and out of sight. Into the back I climb. Passing out as we wind along roads. Unsure of our path. We pause at a gas station near what I take for Berezino. We stretch. Stunt wanders off. The dead wander in. Silently we watch. Thin glass passing for protection. They continue through the night, unawares of their prey, feet away.
Stunt returns. Mob knows how near death we are.
The grocery store. Surprisingly well lit for a lack of electricity. Krappa! A doctor among men. Saved, Mob and I hunker down for the night, allowing Slope, Stunt and Krappa to continue out of this city, wheels beneath their feet. The mundane having nearly brought me out of this world. Another day, survived.

whats with everyone hacking the gamma up to see on the night.
It's not hacking, it's changing a built-in ARMA option that has a GUI slider to change it. And if you don't do it, you can't see on some monitors and systems, which isn't fun for some people. It also puts you at a disadvantage to bandits with upped gamma or night vision or what-have-you.
An optional server thing that prevented gamma modification along with preventing third-person might be nice for people who want to prevent gamma changes though, but otherwise I feel like the game is literally damaging to my eyes if I try to see the shades of black at night.

I agree. When I see a server on the night (since im starting and with lots of troubles trying to connect) it's reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally a gtfo moment.
