No. It's permanent.
It costs gold to upgrade the staff for use in the higher difficulties. I believe 200,000 for Nightmare, 500,000 for Hell, and 1,000,000 for Inferno.

1 h's do more dps usually than bows. You could easily rock a dual sword wielding DH, using greandes/impale.
Even with dex it'd suck. It's damage is horrible, 200? That's like nightmare damage.

ok I DIDNT REALISE i had to do that. i just activated my game and it says to download the full game client. Do i have to do this now? my game is still playing and i just beat the skeleton king but cant seem to get back into that room. If i redownload this client will i lose all my loot and progress?

Covetous Shen was great in convos but for some reason in the sewers he just talks about the most inane shit one after another by the time I get to the exit I wanted to run him through

Yeah one thing to keep in mind is that even if all of the stats are insane, if the posted DPS of a weapon is bad then the weapon is bad. It's not like armor where you are somewhat willing to lose 70-80 points if the itemization is absurd (though you WILL have to correct that later on if playing a melee class).
Anything sub-400 DPS is instantly vendored when I am grinding items. It's not going to sell unless it is like 350 DPS on a level 52 item.

ok for some reason its saved my character, but now im not at the right part, im at the very start of the game before i enter tristram but with the templar...i have no idea what the fuck to do now...
Is there even a minor compendium of this sort of knowledge that no one bothers to tell us? It seems really important...

When I say you can keep moving, I mean like...you know when you cast Desolate or Frost ray, it does damage as you hold the button down? With Arcane Orb, you can do damage by shooting just one orb off, then back peddaling to a safe distance and shooting another.
Same with Piercing Orb. Shoot one or two shots (or more, depending on distance), then back peddle and shoot more. Repeat while maintaining Hydras and win.
As for the armor, try not to use the armor until he blinks. enable it as soon as he appears. Gotta be faster than his first swipe, but if you time it right, you'll be fine. You don't want to use diamond skin any other time in Shadow mode.
also...yea your HP is a little bit low. If my strategy isn't working for you, you might want to consider buying some items with more Vitality (I had about 45k HP when I fought him) to compliment your int.

Should just be able to take the Waypoint in town back to the Crypts for the Skeleton King fight again. Haven't done the Start -> Full Game upgrade myself so I just presume you get to redo that fight for more loot.

The problem is right now it says "Reign of the Black King, Search for the Royal Crypt" and i know that is inside crypt somewhere or a dungeon - but i have no idea where it is or where the nearest waypoint is. Im not sure why it took me out of the skeleton king area but i am totally lost and ive just completely turned off on the game now and have no idea where to go next.

You're playing the starter edition. It's a free demo that only goes up to the Skeleton King. When it's asking for you to "upgrade" that means it wants you to buy the fucking game.
Meh. I don't understand how all the gear on the AH is so fucking expensive, but once I'm done with it and list it for 20% of what I originally payed it never sells. It already cost a fortune to get the gear I have and I don't feel like farming Azmodan 300 more times to get more.
After 90 hours I might be done with this game. Clearly it was designed to force people to use the RMAH. Ugh.

Dude. Take the portal in tristram to the location with the quest icon. It's 10 minutes tops.
This isn't the end of the world.
The followers + crafters chat also reflected this, specifically the theme of clinging to hope when everything seemed hopeless.
Shen was fairly positive but some of the angels weren't so convinced of the outcome, and they reminded me of the elves fighting 'the long defeat'

Eh, would've been nice. But my Follower's DPS is not too bad. My Scoundrel has been sitting at 2700 DPS for a little while. I intend on getting him higher when the AH is functioning properly and I have spare funds. My Templar has 2k as well but he needs Resists to stay alive, heh.

As long as you upgrade it will let you pick up from where you were. Now since you did back out, I assume it will make you just repeat the portion right up to the skele king once you have the crown and all that ready, which is just opening that one door, then going the 2-3 floors quick to whoop his ass again.
No biggy. You are looking at 15 minutes repeat of a game where you will play hundreds of hours of repeat.

Finally beat the butcher on inferno. Had to switch back to zombie bears and played it balls to the wall.
Like I said, I don't really know what you have to repeat really. My friend upgraded before the SK fight if I recall and we just kept going. The nearest Waypoint is marked on the Waypoint itself so it's not that hard to figure out where to go. You may want to double check from the main menu that you're on the right step of the quest (Change Quest option). Do note that selecting a new quest does reset your progress so if you're not choosing one farther than where you are currently than it'll set you back.
FYI you only receive 20% of follower MF.
