WSJ: Apple to increase iPhone screen size to 'at least' 4-inches

Headphone jack on the bottom? I don't believe.
Edit: matches the previous internal part leak, guess the headphone port is on they'd bottom :/

The three holes on the back is interesting I wonder if they moved the noise cancellation mic back there.

Jury is out.

:P

A friend of mine swears that my phone is huge, but it's really not. Once jumping to 4.3" screen size and this form factor the iphone 4s screen looks tiny, and my phone isn't much bigger than the 4s, just a bit taller.

I was being sarcastic, I don't think the phone looks big at all in that picture. Some people in here have expressed the sentiment that they won't be able to fit a 4" phone in their skinny jeans or that they won't be able to reach the corners of the phone.

Won't be a problem for me.

Usb host otg adapter cables? Unless my phone has an apple pin connector hiding behind the micro usb port I kinda confused as to how else it's doing hdmi out and usb host to various drives
Not sure what you just said.

The dock connector is useful because it's able to transmit different types of signals without conversion. You can make different types of dock connector cables that can transmit USB, Firewire, HDMI, VGA, and so on without requiring any sort of conversion box in between. It can also supply much higher power than regular USB.

if the antennas are still in the band around the edge, why would it mater what the back is made of?

Maybe it has something to do with the LTE radio? Maybe Apple is going Pentaband and requires more space? I don't really know how these things work.

Is the black one at an angle, or does it really have darker aluminum?

It looks like it has sharp knees edges.

But looking better when seen as a whole, I guess.

Oh god. It's like when Motorola decided to stop releasing good phones and released endless crap revisions of the RAZR. :(

Why does the front frame screen in that pic not look 16:9? I'm probably seeing things, but the front frame doesn't look as long as the rest of it..

Um whats the difference between
Apple's Digital AV Adapter cable

And Samsung's MHL adapter cable

?

Or between Samsung's usb host adapter and Apple's camera connection kit?

Ok, the bottom looks really beautiful, but I can't get over the asymmetrical speaker sizes because of the headphone port taking up the space. But man that new port is hot.

Front facing camera being in the center is also interesting, but man that back is still ugly as fuck.

MHL is just using the usb connector to transmit HDMI, not the USB protocol. Even then, MHL doesn't transmit the connections I just stated.

What in god's name makes you people think the headphone jack on the bottom is a good choice?

When in hand, why would you want the cord to go away from your body?

When you put the phone in your pocket, it's orientation is down, so it makes sense to have the headphone cord pointing outward from the bottom of the phone.

best reason to have it on bottom: when I put it in my pocket, I can take it out and have it facing the right way in my hand instead of upside down

Uhhh no, it's better on the bottom. Both in pocket and in hand.
In hand, I don't want to need an extra long cable. It's going to wrap over the phone and into your field of vision, or wrap under or to the side and possibly disturb your hand. On top it just heads up towards your ears, with no chance of any of those problems.

In pocket, it doesn't matter.

Easier to put in/take out of the pocket, no headphone cord getting in your way when using the phone
How does the cord not get in the way when on the bottom?

I don't understand what you're saying about in hand. It doesn't disturb my hand it all. It just points towards my torso and goes up to my head. If it was at the top, it would have to wrap around the phone somehow which is unnecessary.

I've already commented on why it's better for in pocket use. I don't want to have to flip my phone over when I take it out of my pocket.

But at the end of the day the microusb port can do all those things like apple's ports if you get the right adapters right? Maybe in 2007 microusb was useless but today I don't really see the practical difference. Apple would never switch ofcourse because they love the control of the 'Made for iPhone' program.

Those aren't speakers - one is a speaker, and one is a mic.

Love the centered front-facing camera, like you, I'm a fan of symmetry, always annoyed by the look of the current one.

Can they put the GPS antennas on the edge too? Like I said, I think the issue in past devices is the GPS. I referenced the Transformer Prime before, here's an article on that.

I'm pretty sure the antenna that the GPS chip uses on the iphone is already part of the external band (even though the chip is obviously inside). on the ipad and other apple devices, the antennas are all on the inside and need to be able to work through windows in the metal structure.

with the antenna on the outside, the front and back materials aren't as important, as far s I can tell

What in god's name makes you people think the headphone jack on the bottom is a good choice?

What devices are you people using?

I listen to stuff on my phone all the time at work with my phone on the desk. If it's facing me and I want to listen to music, it makes more sense for the headphone jack to be on the bottom.

I don't use earphones with really long cords, I guess.

I sometimes look at my phone from my waist, from head level, from the side, etc. Often near the limit of the cord length. And the cord just going out the top makes it very simple, no chance of getting into field of vision, no chance of disturbing my hand/arms. Maybe it wouldn't be a hassle with longer cords.
