New image. iPhone 4 screen superimposed on new design. Border along the edge of the screen is definitely smaller.
That's inaccurate. The screen will have the same width as the current one, not wider. It'll only be stretched out vertically.

Yeah, original image is distorted. Just look at the home button on it.
White was just bad design all around. Not as richly glossy as the black one, and the black border around the screen was jarring - not to mention lock screen and other parts of UI with dark gradients were clearly meant to blend into the black surrounding. White iPhone 4/S was just a thoughtless cash grab IMO.

I find this surprising coming from you since you're so particular about screens. Wouldn't you prefer it to blend into the bezel?
The white iPhones and iPads are the lead SKUs for Apple advertising.

You can see that black border around the screen before the actual bezel starts on a white model. It blends in almost perfectly on the black model though.How does this not have its own thread already? Its huge

I read some articles about a month ago about new cheaper, smaller Thunderbolt chips hitting the market. Small and cheap enough for an iPhone, though? Now that's up in the air.

The good thing about setting the bar here, is that it seems almost certain that the final product will be a step above whatever it is that we're looking at here (if it even is a real plate/prototype).
Hopefully the final product doesn't look so odd.
I don't remember that. I remember people not liking the drastic change, but I definitely thought it was bold and sexy. Couldn't believe people who thought it was an internal prototype never to be release, lol.
This just looks honestly bad. As much as it pains me to say it, I wish they would've kept the all-glass back. Much nicer looking than this pos design.

Really it doesn't seem all that bad unless your car has a dedicated 30-pin connector that you loved or have a home-stereo that you use with a built in 30-pin.
From a consumer POV it's an annoyance depending on how deeply you've invested in something expensive with the 30pin in it.
From a manufacturer POV, it's how recently you shipped an expensive product with a built-in 30pin connector under the assumption that it'd be good forever.
My alarm clock and speakers use the pin connector, ugh. At least my car was smart enough to use USB rather than a dedicated connector.
Guarantee they will have a converter plug.
Knowing Apple, I wouldn't be so sure...
Headphone jack finally on the bottom, yay. I also like the design, looks like a logical evolution of the 4/4S. I'd also be fine with a 16:9 display, 4" would be just like the Nexus S which felt great in my hand. I think it's the superior aspect ratio for a smartphone, most mobile sites are just lists of things anyway.

October is so far away right now. I really hope this is not the final look of the next phone, but when everything is said and done it will all be about the software.
Knowing Apple they will make one, but it will cost $19.99.
The radio dock thing that I have has a standard headphone input as well, so at least that's still usable if there is no adapter.

iPhone 4 was bold and sexy, but iPhone 4S was boring even though it was identical, and so is this? Just talking design not what's inside.
I've has said again and again it's all about the design getting out of the way. Just a single piece of glass. Not sure what people are expecting iPhones to look like from here on out. Making it look different just for different's sake is precisely what they are unlikely to do.
As for new dock - its been a while since they started using this one. And each gen changes the shape of the tray needed, so it's not like adapters are unusual. If they bring a dock that'll last ten years I'm fine with that

I was expecting something that shared the design of a Macbook Air or Pro. Aluminium, single piece, sleek and thin. Either teardrop shape (Air like) or just flat like a Pro, and kinda like the 4 but going from glass to aluminium.
Agreed on every point.
I really just don't understand why they didn't make it a solid aluminum back. Not even curved, just a flat iPad-like backing material. This cut-off shit is so ugly and unnecessary, imo.
