I dunno where all this negative reaction is coming from. To me it looks like a slightly nicer interpretation of the iPhone 4's design.

Yeah it was stupid tho
The iPhone 4 design was supposedly the height of perfection so any change was going to get some backlash.I dunno where all this negative reaction is coming from. To me it looks like a slightly nicer interpretation of the iPhone 4's design.
It just struck me as amusing that by the time that dock gets through manufacturing a new dock connector will either be out or be very close to being out. I mean I haven't followed the kickstarter but I'm under the assumption it's still gonna be a few months before the manufacturing run is completed. The dock? Maybe. That's why it was a KickStarter. He wasn't sure how viable it would be, so he asked people if they wanted one. Clearly they did.
You seem unnecessarily hostile.

It's been delayed; it's not even out yet. And unlike other product preorders there are (typically) no returns accepted for Kickstarter projects. But every backer should have known that going in.It just struck me as amusing that by the time that dock gets through manufacturing a new dock connector will either be out or be very close to being out. I might be the most vocal but you must be blind if you think a lot of people don't like this look. It's mostly Sentry crying. It looks fine to me.
I think so too, but I wonder if it's the angle and lighting that's giving off the impression that the back on the black version is more of a charcoal aluminum or if it's really just traditional iPad-like grey.I do think the black looks much better than the white.

Exactly what I said. (to the latter too of courseThe bottom would look so amazing without that headphone port there.
I don't like the new screen ratio =/
Maybe it's not steel? Maybe it's Liquid Metal?
I might be the most vocal but you must be blind if you think a lot of people don't like this look.
Of course at the end of the day, it'll look fine because we'll get used to whatever Apple throws our way, but damn... WHY? That's the question
Maybe it's not steel? Maybe it's Liquid Metal?
What would be the difference? Weight / feel?
The more I think about it.... Ok, so the phone got physically longer, right? It reasons to assume that the glass back could have been a structural integrity issue, too vulnerable or something. You're right, that's the question. And it's not going to be answered for months. We keep coming back to this whining over not understanding why decisions have supposedly been made. We don't have all the information needed to make a decision yet on whether a design is worth it or not.
I was thinking the same thing, but I recall reading somewhere (9to5?) that this won't be the device to include liquid metal. Who knows, though.Maybe it's not steel? Maybe it's Liquid Metal?
Those 130~ extra pixels are really going to change your life.I can't fucking wait to have a bigger phone. I'm tweakin', I'm tweakin'! Not a huge fan of the headphone jack placement though.

I might be pissing in the wind but that's all I can really think of from a viable reasoning/necessity point of view..

Liquid metal casing would mean less machining and thinner case.
Much more expensive but you replace a lot of steps. They basically injection mould metal which is crazy for consumer parts.
Liquid metal is basically a metal forming technology that allows the grain structure to for through a rapid cooling step. Makes it very strong. So you can use less of the material to get the same properties of the comparable material.

Engineering chemistry class...
When you rapidly quench something, you will form smaller grains which will increase a lot of mechanical properties (like surface hardness) but you also make a more brittle structure.
That's true for regular liquid metals being cast, and not the the new Liquid® liquid metals.
Our main production alloy is a Zr/Ti based alloy and non-magnetic.

Couldn't they have solved that problem by making the entire back out of that material, rather than those top and bottom ugly glass bezels? But yeah, I basically agree with everything else.I'm digging it.
It solves on of the major flaws on the 4/4S design, the fragility of the back. It does so by also adding a design feature in which the antenna breaks are now an assumed part of the design (white in the white version) and determine where those upper and lower chins end, giving the back a more symmetrical feel with the front which is also composed by a large rectangle between 2 chins.
Larger LED should be better, and the new placement of the second mic (noise canceling and recording) is smart.
Colored metal in the black iPhone is an unexpected change of events for Apple, I hope that turns out well. I can imagine a worn out black iPhone not looking so good with all its grey scratches...
If it turns out well, I can imagine Apple bring that to more devices. Black iPad, MacBooks.
I have no particular feeling about the new jack placement, although as principle I always preferred it being on the top. But I can see advantages for both placements.
The new dock connector... had to happen, sooner or later. I won't affect me that much, assuming they release an adapter. But yeah for a couple of years we won't take advantage of the almost ubiquitous iPod/iPhone cable available in every household to get a quick charge, sync or something.
The only think I really don't like about this is the new aspect ratio.

It's probably the latter. How could we possibly know that? Maybe they couldn't? Maybe the top and bottom serve some purpose? Maybe Ive thinks it's the best thing ever?

Even Apple magic can't make 16:9 a good aspect ratio. Can we take Sentry out back and fucking shoot him already? The amount of faux outrage and buttfuckery is now beyond annoying. It's just stupid.
Face facts, Apple is changing to match what the market is saying is what consumers want. Apple is going to be able to match their OS with the size. Everyone chill the fuck out.

Surely the new design shouldn't be just a re-hashed iPhone 4 with a backplate made of other material, which you could get right now from ebay or something.Couldn't they have solved that problem by making the entire back out of that material, rather than those top and bottom ugly glass bezels? If this statement were a fact (on a fundamental level) than we have shit to worry about, I'd say.Face facts, Apple is changing to match what the market is saying is what consumers want

Yep.Really dude?
What's different about this screen size thing, to me at least, is that presumably countless tests were done over many years and 3.5in is the screen size that was deemed the best.Apple has always done this. There are certain areas of the product where they set the trend, and there is a certain areas where they follow it, and then there is a certain areas where they just say fuck all and don't give a shit. They are a pretty organic company with organic products that change based on Apple's and Apple's customer's needs - I see no problem with how Cook is running the company, and I am sure when this thing is released, that there would be few reasons to doubt his choices.
Didn't hear that Apple is going to shit now that Jobs is dead?!
