DayZ - zombie apocalypse online FFA permadeath survival Arma II mod

I'd like the bandit skin to return. Just increase the threshold for getting a bandit skin. Also reward 'good' players by giving them other skins. I also understand that rewarding players is not what the game is about but in the end, the bandit skin can also be considered a reward.

I'll never understand the love for SixUpdater, horrible piece of software. Good old manual creation of folders and ARMA 2 Launcher works wonders.

It can be handy if you play on servers that use a lot of different mods. It can check those servers and install the mods accordingly. It also auto checks for updates. It is cumbersome though.
 
I'm really interested to see how the whole humanity thing plays out, what system will eventually be in place? Right now the dayz forums have a definte split between those that want the "kill everything that moves" attitude curtailed and the people who want to kill everthing because there are no rules in this world. There's a bit of shit throwing from each side going on.
Yeah, which is silly because that's really just people throwing their preferences around as reasons something should change. Rocket will do what he wants for the most part, so we will just have to wait and see.
 
The oddest thing happened: I lost my female model and now I'm a plain old manly man. Then I found a camo suit and... God damn I looked fine! Now I'm hoping I lost the female model for good :-)

Also just as I had my mouse literally on the 'Abort' and was logging out for a smoke, someone sniped me. Scared me real good and made me love this game and its laws of the jungle.
 
Honestly, I looked up "how to install Dayz" and saw a ton about SixUpdater so I went with that. Ended up installing corrupt files, etc. Such a headache.

Thanks, I appreciate it. I went to configure the controls, saw all of them and immediately thought that there's no way all of them will be used.

Here you go:

Left Click = Fire/Select
Right Click = Aim down Sights
Right Click (Hold) = Zoom in (w+ Iron sights or not.)
Alt (Hold) = Look around your head/view without turning your character
Shift = Walk/Run (Depending on your already set.)
Shift (Double Tap) = Toggle Walk/Run
Alt (Double Tap) = Toggle view looking
G = Gear
; = Switch to secondary/primary
Numpad Enter = Third Person
Page Up = Zero In
Page Down = Zero Out
\ = Salute
< & > = Switch between chat groups
/ = Chat through text
Caps lock = VOIP
P = Player-list
Z = Prone
X = Crouch
C = Stand

Additionally, everything you do to yourself (eat, drink, painkillers, morphine..etc) must be done from the Backpack/Gear (G Key) menu. If you're giving someone else blood, painkillers..etc, then you can just use the context menu, which should prompt you when you look at them or when you hit middle mouse and look at them.

This update is now in final closed testing.

HOWEVER. Due to the dramatic change in architecture, it will only see a limited release initially. I will post instructions here about how to join this limited release once it is available. If that server proves successful we will commence a major rollout.

It would be good to get the gaf servers in on this.

For anyone asking, it seems this 1.7.0 thing will be mostly (if not all) about server access and speeds. In Rocket's and the team's initial closed testing it seems to reduce server loading times to almost instant.

IMPORTANT: Update 1.7.0 will --require-- the servers and clients (players) to have the latest Operation Arrowhead beta patch. After DayZ is updated to 1.7.0, you will not be able to play it at all unless you have your shit together. Did someone have a tutorial for that? I thought it was relatively easy to do, but then again just on this very page there are people who can't extract .rars and create folders w/o help or 3rd party installers...
 
Glad to hear about 1.7 - I had some issues trying to connect last night so I didn't even end up playing. Missed the crew, so hopefully tonight things will straighten up so I can get back in.

He also posted the test info. Servers SE 3 to 6 are being used and the password is "ihelptest".

Initial reports are that people aren't even loading long enough to see the messages.
 
Was it NiX who had the dude alive for over two weeks and I was bitching how he had poor kills and bla bla bla? I take that back. I'm going to do that myself, with hopefully more PvP and zombie killing action, but I'm going to stop running and gunning my way through this game and focus on survival for as long as I can. Will. Be. Amazing.

I think he's at 16 or 17 days now. You'll enjoy it. Every time shit goes down you're brought back to that panic you had when you first started and first realized it was perma-death.

I think anyone who plays with no concern for the longevity of their character is just playing the game like it's an open world Battlefield game.

This is exactly what's killing this mod for me right now. Like earlier today I went to Elektro and the sixth person I killed, killed me. I mean really? I was there for 15 minutes and I almost made it out with 5-6 kills and a bunch of loot. Where's the "survival" in that? Well I've had fun for 240h in this mod so far, but it's time to get back to the roots and actually start playing the game as a scared hermit.

I think that part of the issue is the lack of any kind of "skill" or character developement. Let's say there was some kind of "perk" or "skill" system. As you killed zombies, cooked food or applied med packs, you could gain small perks that would enhance your character.

It could be more resistance to cold, more hunger/thirst resistance. Small stuff that would make your character your "own".
 
It's fine to play in manner that aims for long survival times, but with the mod still being in such an early phase you could very well end up dying as a result of some unforeseen patch bug ala the temperature fiasco that happened last week.

I'm with you man, the game is on a different level when you're cautious and thoughtful. I still get a bit flustered if I sense danger. As Mickey said, you're also fighting the patches/updates; I've been a victim of bugs many times and my longest character was as well.

There are a few bugs that will kill you, but 99% of the time they come with a new update. Otherwise it's stuff that we're all aware of (bunching up in doorways, laying down on catwalks..etc). I wait on patch day for the rest of you to endure shit like the temperature bug.
 
Speaking of long survival times. My character of 18 days finally died today. Was raiding Gorka with a friend and just plain fucked up. We got swarmed and ran opposite directions, I got hit and went unconscious, and that's all she wrote. At least my friend was able to take all my gear.

So what you're basically saying is I should find you with a new char while holding a live grenade
 
Did I miss something in one of the patches related to blood loss?

I received a blood transfusion while I was holding rock solid at 4000 blood, but as soon as the transfusion ended I started losing blood at a slow rate, maybe 2 or 3 a second. Food and water were green, temp was 42c.. I have no idea what it was. Any ideas?

Temp can be high, but you can still be sick.
 
Wow, just installed the beta patch and there is a nice frame rate gain.

Highly recommended, easy steam instal instructions below (no messing with shortcut target lines or registry keys.)

  1. Install beta patch.
  2. There is _runA2CO_beta.cmd file in your OA folder.
  3. Make a copy of it in the same folder and name it something like _runA2CO_beta DayZ.cmd
  4. Right Click and Edit this file with notepad.
  5. Find the paragraph starting with the ":run" (almost at the end of file)
  6. Add -mod=@dayz right before the last numbers (%1 %2 %3 %4 %5 %6 %7 %8 %9)
  7. Save and exit
  8. Create a shortcut to this cmd file on your desktop and you ready to go

May want to add this to the OP with the upcoming server wide migration to the latest BETA patch
 
People being able to spawn inside cities, airfields, buildings needs to be changed. It should automatically kick them out to the outskirts of whatever place they were in.

It's BS that I died from some dude who spawned inside a building I had just checked 10 seconds ago. I'm especially pissed because I was fully loaded with everything short of NVG's.

I agree. Depending where they left off either the closest coast or nearest open field/forest.

My current game version seems to be 1.60, and anytime I use the Worrom updater's "Quick Update" feature, it seems to download and install the latest DayZ files, but then nothing changes when I go back into the game. And now I hear version 1.7 is out? The heck?

Basically, what should I do right this minute to completely update the game?

1.7 is in limited release so it's not fully deployed. You should be at 1.60.1.

I believe 1.6.01 is the current version.

1.7 shouldnt come out for a while.
 
I seem to be doing great at losing stuff!!
I Had to go for a swim in the sea in order to lose a pack of zombies after I ran out of ammo and survived the longest I have managed so far with nothing but a bandage to my name. Although now I have managed to find some much needed food and water! Phew! Searching through buildings and populated areas without any ammo is some nerve jangling stuff (accurately represented by my need for some painkillers)
