The way he asked "have you seen them yet?" totally sounded like he had actually seen them even though right afterwards he said he hadn't he just knew people that had. IDK, I'm really skeptical about next gen.

The Barnettcast seems like it was skirting some boundaries. It initially feels like he said a lot of things he should not have, but listening back to bits of it, he also really said nothing concrete.

Yeah, in the moment, it felt like he was saying some shit better left unsaid, but in hindsight, making fun of company powerpoints and talking about how much a pain in the ass going through the lawyers in your company is, ain't that big a deal.

Unless the person he reports to wrote the powerpoints or something.

A true E3 podcast isn't truly true unless a certain level of inebriation is involved.

To wit:

I value humans and E3 is an industry event.

Honestly, Xbox LIVE is my biggest problem with the Xbox. Its just bad. It makes me feel resentful about the entire console. Back in 2006/2007 I adored my Gamertag. My Profile. I LOVED the service. Even before that on the original Xbox I'd stay up chatting with dudes I'd met in Halo all the time. But ever since NXE the value of the service in my eyes has fallen through the floor. I turn on my Xbox and am greeted by ads for UFC and Fast Food EVEN THOUGH IM PAYING them. I just had to renew my sub a few weeks ago and I wasn't pleased I had buyers remorse instantly. It just fuckin' sucks man. I don't even watch video on my TV anymore because its less of a hassle to just stream content to my iPad than fucking around with the dashboard. There are times late at night when I feel like playing a few rounds of CoE but I don't because I don't want to deal with the Xbox interface. Thats a seriously serious problem.

The user experience of the xbox platform right now is literally as bad as it could ever be. If it were any worse it just flat out wouldn't work. I'm sure NextGen will be different and a lot of the usage paradigms that are prevalent now that didn't even exist in 2005 will be included in the design process from the get go but holy hell I want nothing more than to distance myself the xbox platform and console gaming as a whole because just how shockingly bad they have made the experience of using their console.

This has been the most turbulent, interesting generation since I started gaming on the Genesis but jesus christ am I ready to get past all this shit. I never want to look at another 360 again. Everything. They poisoned the well. I don't even want the controller to remind me of the 360 next gen.

My 360 is easily the most expensive console I've ever owned.

The very idea of a subscription console is outrageously repellent to me, yet here I am looking up prices for another year's tot-up.

I'm also part of the conspiracy-theory club which claims MS pre-knowingly put Gold Sub cash directly into the Replace-A-Broken-Xbox-Fund. So ignore me if you wish to. But seriously -- that scheme must have been prepped manpowerwise and budgetwise.

The podcast makes me think we will be seeing the consoles at E3. Barnett saying that as if it's getting near the time to reveal them, being unsure of whether Giant Bomb saw the new system, is interesting. He confirmed the code name with little hesitation as if the public reveal already happened.

Is Premium membership worth it? I'm probably not going to catch any live stuff, but just for the premium videos mostly.
Not right now. I was a subscriber from day one until this past month. Content has just flat dried up. Wait til they get settled in the new offices and get equipment.

^Post above me is nonsense.

If you're going premium for the first time, there's a ton of good premium content you haven't seen yet.

Just drop $5 now for a 30 day sub and you will have plenty of stuff to entertain you for a month.

Dont go for a yearly sub until they get there shit sorted in the new office.

I'm not gonna stop giving them $5 a month because it's just $5 and they're awesome, but content has been dire for weeks now. Ever since the buyout there's been plenty of perfectly valid reasons why content is slow, but once E3 is over I think they really need to get going.

Uh, since that entirely sidesteps the line of conversation I'll say yes, getting a month subscription is absolutely worth it on the strength of the back catalogue alone.

But then you'll fall into what just happened to me and forget about it and end up spending 30 bucks on monthly memberships instead of getting a yearly.

Yeah, that whole segment was sorta interesting - although I guess if he had said anything too NDA-breaking Ryan probably would have edited around it.

You could just go monthly until they have another sale for $35/yr. I think that's a pretty fair price.

Jeff seems to confirm that codenames/systems are possibly legit due to what he has heard at E3 plus Patrick backed him up with what he has been hearing.

So that might mean he hasn't seen it yet but others seems to have (assuming devs and maybe other media houses)

Are you ready?

I really like GB but I'm going to drop my subscription when it comes time. I rarely if ever watch the premium videos and now that they're under Gamespot I don't feel like they need my money to survive. Also the fall of I Love Mondays still rankles.

The I love tuesday video shows the place where they are going to be set up at. But its not even being worked on yet. Its just an office space that will somehow turn into a studio. It might be awhile before I love monday returns. :(

Wait, so is that where they will be moving their offices? I get the impression that videos are hard to do in their limited space now, that would be awesome if that's purely a Giant Bomb area.

I feel like I've been hearing "oh just wait, this has been a dry spell but more premium content is coming!!!" since like, the last Big Live Live Show. Been pretty weak for a while.

I've been incredibly disappointed with the site for months now. I don't know how much of it is "their fault," as it seems they haven't been getting the support they need from their new management, but that doesn't really matter. All that matters to me in the end is that the bookmark I used to click on as soon as I sat down in front of my computer is one I've only glanced at for the last few days, then shrugging and saying "why bother?"

the new ILM's are waaaaay better. Especially when Jeff is recording brad playing a game without brad knowing. The trials one was great.

While I think that this is a bit harsh (for me anyway...I still go to the site a couple of times a day) I agree that the "we need to get gear" excuse is getting ridiculous. It's been a couple of months now since they were bought out. No way it takes that long to order stuff. Also, not having a powerful PC preventing them to do content is just BS. First of all it takes a couple of days maximum to build a new PC if you really want to and anyway, the main feature they use the gaming pc in the studio for is to play old games with Dave....you don't need a crazy machine to do that.

Anyway, we'll see after E3 how it goes but I agree that I wasn't exactly happy about how things went since the buyout.

I find videos of them aimlessly wandering around the office extremely boring.

The only thing coming out of the original ILM was a list of things that might be showing up during the week. Since most of the stuff mentionned in the ILM never makes it on the site anyway, it's completly pointless to have the old ILM.

With the new format, at least, you get to see stuff happening around the office, hear funny things and visit the floor. Might not be much but it's still better than a list of empty promises.

I do hope they go back an look at the Streets of Rage, Golden Axe and Virtua Fighter 5 thing when they get back, even if they look down on them like most old Sega stuff.

In a corporate structure, you have to submit tickets for gear and equipment approval before you can get them.

Plus alot of video editing is done on Macs. It's just the industry standard. Also you do need a very good machine for it. Video editing requires alot more power than people give credit for.

To be fair there were other reasons in play. For example Vinny having his first baby, them going to PAX, Drew going on vacation, having to deal with new management over costs & whatnot and planning for E3. Not to mention they were still doing QLs, TNTs and shit. So yeah, maybe we cut them some slack, guys.

They're never going to get their budget from corporate. CBSi is going to keep them alive enough for the redesign (so that they can legally use distillery 2.0) and then either move the editors to Gamespot or flush them out.

*tinfoil hat*

edit: So much for the idea that they got paid out if they can't even afford a computer for PC games.

I feel like 'cut them some slack' has been going on since last year. Possibly even two years ago.

Nah, it was getting pretty good with Breaking Brad, Flight Club, Random PC Game, Jar Time, and TNT.

It's been complete shite ever since.

It's so weird because they had all this teh, from te green screen to the cameras to everything else, but it seems like nobody got them. Tested are building their own stuff and are currently stuck with working at home, and i don't think Comic Vine or Screened got anything either -- just where the hell did it all go?
