Wii U Pro Controller announced - X360pad design, no screen, "for multiplatform games"

Nintendo: Look at these awesome motion controls!

Hardcore: Get that waggle shit outta here! I want something with 2 analog sticks!

Third-parties: Motion controls are hard! I want something with lots of buttons!

Nintendo: Look at our Wii U Pad! It does everything: dual analog, touch screens, buttons, you name it!

Hardcore: It looks too big!

Third-parties: Touch screens are hard! Can't you make it simpler?

Nintendo: Fine. What the fuck do you want from us?

Third-parties, Hardcore:

Nintendo: Done.

Hardcore: Shameless!

Haha...I love it!

LOL! This too.

I bet they won't be able to comprehend how to develop games with the right stick and buttons swapped.

"We couldnt figure out if it was a controller for FPS or Fighting games...so we tried making a first person fighting game....it was too complex"

Controller looks great. Really hope it's a pack in.

I still go crazy over the X/Y button switch. I'm so used to my 360 pad that I still have to look down at my 3DS to make sure I'm pressing the right button.

Everyone has pretty much copied features from controllers, I like the 360 controller most now but I think some people are scared this actually might be better than the 360 controller.

Pretty sure this isn't going to be bundled with the console.

Console + Gamepad + Wii U Pro controller? That would bring the cost up beyond what Nintendo probably wants it to be at.

So this controller basically means that some developers will just port 360/PS3 games...this is horrible news for me (who already has these two consoles). I wanted third party titles to have something different, thanks to this new screen but if developers will just port the same game then I don't think I'll support third party games on a Nintendo console, for the 4th generation in a row

:o

Please be bundled with the console.

lol that's not gonna happen

I feel like they might have taken a step backwards using convex analog sticks instead of concave. The circle pad being concave was why it felt so comfortable.

Perfect. Gamers are so open to new things.

the sticks and buttons layout are similar to the Wii U Game Pad, it's a good sign.
people can adapt to the controller Pro whenever switch over from the Game Pad

Looks smexy, but I'm not a fan of the right stick above the buttons placement.

Also, lol at the pics. Haven't laughed as hard about a controller complaint since that guy made a thread about the green light on the 360 home button being too bright and the cat pic that followed.

I... Don't see a problem with the stick/button placement at all. In fact this will make things like reloading/crouching/jumping quicker in fps games since you can just rock the joint of your thumb onto the buttons while using the tip on the stick.

I hate not being able to hit up, down, left, and right precisely. The + pad makes slight diagonals less sensitive. Think of a game like the NES Contra where you want to hit down to duck. A lot of pads will easily register down and slightly right/left which will cause you to walk and aim & therefore die. Most old school or reflex games are hard to play with the typical 8 way pads.

This. The 360 dpad is atrocious for a couple of reasons, and this is one of the biggest. Unless my finger is physically pressing down both, I don't want it to register a goddamn diagonal. The 360 controller does this if my finger is even slightly tilted when pressing a single direction. Design this bad should have never passed QA.

Glad they picked the best designed controller in recent history to copy. Nintendo tends to be somewhat arrogant when it comes to design so I'm a little surprised they copied the form factor this blatantly, but it's a good one so I can't complain. I just wish the dpad was bigger, closer to the Classic Controller dpad (which was the best I've used in a long time).

So basically what this means is that none of the mulitplatform games are going to utilize the tablet screen in any meaningful way because they don't even have to use it anymore. Pretty big concession by Nintendo imo.

In my opinion there really isn't a problem. It is mainly people will have to readjust to a new layout. I had issues going to a PS3 controller after never having owned any Playstation prior to last year. Its an adjustment.

If I am using a 360 or PS3 controller, im moving my thumb off the analog stick, same thing here, just have to my my thumb in a different direction.

So Nintendo copied the 360 S controller but only because hardcores/3rd parties wanted them too. U hope they also mentioned something about Xbox live in this letter of requests.

The harcores wanted a Sony Smash Bros. That doesn't change the fact that its a knock off of Smash Bros. The same applies to this. You can't get around reality with twisted logic.

Its not as if MS hasn't clearly taken thing from Nintendo. "Avatars", "ABXY", etc... There's no need to have a double standard. The WiiU controller's form is clearly a near replica of the 360s. That's just the reality of it. Move on.

People have been bitching at Nintendo to just make a standard controller. Personally, if this leads to more 3rd party support, I'm fine with it.

I'm hoping the software and features of the game pad will pretty much compel me to want to use it instead of this controller. I can see getting one, for multiplayer (friend gets no-screen), but I am sincerely hoping that the built-in software - this new Mii network o' help, taking notes, browsing web, video calls, etc. will make me want to always have the gamepad, even if the particular game doesn't support it.

I hope it's fast as fuck to switch to a web browser and back, and all of the other functions too. If it's an annoyingly slow transition I won't use it as much.

Fingers crossed.

hmmm i think im still okay with this (if this works on wiiu)

It lacks clickable sticks (and analog triggers but that doesn't truly matter outside of racing games generally) so it won't be enough, and may not even be supported by most Wii U games. I really hope they put out a version like that too, in case this doesn't work out for retro games afterall (or DOES but doesn't for 3D action games where camera control is secondary to the face buttons).

Why would I buy a third party game for Wii U if I can have it on other consoles I already own? The one thing that would make me buy these titles on Wii U was going to be because of the touchscreen features this game could have had.

Totally fine with them emulating the 360 pad. Glad Nintendo is making this controller available. Would be happier if one was included with the console so developers know that every wiiu gamer has one.

Gee, I dunno... they may well run better? (Emphasis on "may" I guess)

I think the stick placement is crazy, the nintendo d-pads are horribly undersized and it's likely it will be light akin to the sixaxis which is just fucking odd to hold.

That'll appease the hardcore's, for the time being anyway. Kinda curious to see how it handles a 2D platfomer.
