[MS-Conf] Forza Horizon - E3 2012 trailer

null, lets just cruise around playing "follow the leader" throughout horizon till the end of time <3
I'm game. I can just drive in games with lush environments for days and days and days.

I still free roam around NFS Hot Pursuit just to relax at times. And don't even ask how much time I put into Burnout paradise. But give me a cockpit view, Forza physics and hell, snow?! Yes. Hard not to ecstatic for this one.

Ya know, this game seems like a better fit for Top Gear-like events as well. You'd need an open world to do even half the challenges those guys come up.

What what? Did someone mention Pikes Peak?
For real?

Nobody has confirmed it, it is just hopefully wishing on my part. However, they would be stupid to not have it in the game somehow. Even if they couldn't get the real license, they better have some kind of all dirt version that is similar. It would be stupid to have all of this amazing stuff set in CO and have no hill climb.

My feelings for this were luke warm. But after watching more video content on it I'm getting really pumped for this game. Shame about the 30fps, but totally understandable considering how much it's doing. Owning a kinect, I could see myself using the gps functions. Now to wait for the full car list for this game. Will it be huge like Forza 4 or will it be a more paired down list? I don't think they've announced anything on that front, right?

all they've said is that for a car to fit into horizon the answer needs to be yes to one of the following questions;
1) would the owner of this car feel enough pride in it to take it to a car show to show off
2) is the car appropriate for the events in the game.

i'm thinking it will be much more focused on fast supercars, and off-road specialties

yeah, there has to be it, or something similar. its fucking colorado and they picked it for a reason ;)

I played TDU with a friend just driving around for hours side by side with our loud muscle cars. Was awesome - With Forza physics... will be even more awesome.

I'm trying to not get too hyped.

Fuck it.

Hype x 10000. I've always wanted a free roaming sim without the over the top NFS feel.

I don't think this game will be as sim as a lot of people are expecting it to be, it might be using a lot of the code for physics and handling but that is only half the story.

I think it would take them more work to change the physics than it would to just keep what they have from FM4 and expand on them. Plus, with all assists on, it is PLENTY arcadey enough for most people. I really think we will be getting a good open world sim racing game.

At least, that is what I will keep telling myself because I want it SO BAD!

Off Topic: How does the first TDU hold up? I haven't played it, but I did check out the 2nd one and thought it was complete shite. Should I grab TDU to prepare for FH?

If I had to guess which part the sim aspect they removed I'd say :
- the whole damage model, cosmetic only in Horizon
- part of the tire model (tires always warm)

Wait, so this is TDU with a budget? Holy shit. :D

I thought it was just another Forza, which is fine, but we have more than enough racing sims this gen.

Upgrades and livery editor? What doesn't this game have? I figured an open world game was going to entail a lot more sacrifices.

I am not sure he wanted to say it, because it has not been confirmed yet and I guess that is something they may have to take out.

What was that about upgrades, Dan? What? Argh.

He's definitely holding back on the juicy details. They did this sought of thing with the lead up to FM3 and FM4.

Ultimately, this is a 'car culture' game so having a wide array of customization/upgrade options would make perfect sense in this game.
Well, at least I hope it does lol...

edit- Upgrades and customization has actually been confirmed already. As before, the real question is how deep are those features..?

I thought I was pumped for this game until I realised I was wrong, after watching the demo vids I'm massively pumped for the game.. So glad to see Photo Mode (I did doubt it was in for a minute) is in, some of the 'screenshots' look amazing, especially the night ones.

I'd like a little more info on the car upgrades, more specifically body upgrades. I'd also want the same standard of livery editor and storefront sharing, which after watching the demos, givese confidence that these will be in.

I'm not one for skipping to an event etc (more of a cruiser and adventurer when it comes to open world) so that 'gps line' better be able to be switched off.

Really pumped for the game and can't wait for more info.

yes, well, i don't want to be the one to remind you that the juicy stuff Dan seemed to be holding back with the lead up to Fm4...ended up not being in the game at all :P

"Dan, what can you tell us about night racing ?"
"Oh, well, we have dynamic...ALTERNATE, i mean, alternate time of the day (did i say dynamic ? oh no, that was supposed to be a secret !)
"Weather ?"
"Ah, weather you ask, well i'm not supposed to unveil..i mean talk about that yet ! "
"Rally ?"
"Oh, u so curious ! well, i guess we'll see ! *winks* Are you a car lover yet ?"

Man... they are showing nothing. Just driving around and avoiding everything.

The loading with fast travel looks a bit long (in the GT video yesterday). The fast travel in TDU is awesome.

Ha, I remember that, but don't hold Dan against it. I'm still impressed with the Dusk setting in Forza 4 from time to time.

Nah, i like the guy and i'm sure they honestly were not sure what features would end up being in Fm4.
I guess they were working on some of those and at some point they thought they might make it for release.

Wendell was even more guilty in this regard in the run up to FM4, and what a cock-teasing shyster he turned out to be. He nodded and winked so much during one interview I thought he was having a fucking epileptic fit. Turn 10 need to nip any false rumours in the bud this time around. That shit is NOT funny.

Tweets from Xbox World and PSM3 Michael Gapper:

'Forza Horizon is incredible. Played it last night - full assists locked on in demo - but can play with proper Forza 4 handling in game'.

'So Horizon is Forza, but you're never out of the game - always on road without loading screens'.

'Other Horizon stuff - Colorado, engine is amazing, Kinect voice control GPS, 30 fps w/ motion blur, smoothed like PGR4, 20km draw distance'.

Cheers.

i like
hope it doesn't get raped by most wanted, sales-wise.
Games are so close, and despite being very different, people will perceive them as identical, with most wanted probably looking more spectacular in the eyes of casuals.

That's probably why Microsoft has used the Forza branding, so it doesn't get lost. But by all intents and purposes, this is a new IP, using an old IP!

To be honest we really do not know much about it and it's not a long time until October. Really weird that they even did not want to continue drive down that road in the gamespot demo and such things.

the forza boobs ..ops booth... looks good

If Horizon does well, could Playground end up as Turn10 UK or something? At the rate T10 pumps these games out I'd certainly appreciate some fresh ideas where Forza is concerned.

The GT demo was really really good. If physics update at 360fps like FM4, does that mean we can assume it's 60fps?

Also, I don't like how they identified problems in open world games, and then them saying "we solved it.. using Kinect!" Like thats a solution for everyone.

(forgot to hit post this morning when I wrote this, goddamnit)

Horizon has been confirmed multiple times to be locked at 30 fps in order to have a day/night cycle etc as there is a limit to what the ancient 360 hardware can do 8)

Yeah... they really do not show much, but what they show looks good to me.
They need to come out with some of the infos though, the game is coming this fall.

I'm all for this team going "what if we made a Need for Speed?" Because actual Need for Speed isn't really doing it for me. Most Wanted will probably be good in its own right, but let's just say my favorite NFS's were Porsche Unleashed and Test Drive Unlimited.

This is a demo impression from someone who claims to be a big fan of Forza, saying that the driving experience isn't as authentic as Forza 4. He said the Viper should be hard to control, after he turned off all assist but it wasnt.

But I play with all assist off and the Vipers are some of the easiest to control cars, so I dont know if he has used them in 4, but well have to wait and see.

Sorry short no pikes peak. Reason being they dont want any roads with dead ends.

That is not a good reason. Is it because the Forza AI can't handle dead ends? Even still they could always pay homage to it without recreating it to every last detail.

Edit: Also, I wonder just how open the landscape is. Can we truly go off the road and say just into the wilds ala TDU? Or are we limited to the road, side-of-the-road and some off-road paths? Can we drive off cliffs?
