Forza Horizon 5 | PlayStation 5 Review Thread

Cafe mode in GT7 was good, wasn't perfect but better than anything sport, or GT5 had. Now forza is arriving on PlayStation?

So is it just foliage improvement on Pro or does it have the extra tessellation found in Quality modd on SX? I see people saying it's like Quality mode but I have doubts

Completely loving the game.

The MS sign in was a pain in the ass. I logged in, and then it said I'm logged into FH5 on another account (I'm not) and I couldn't play the game I just bought. I'm not sure why Sony are the only ones who get shit for making you sign into PSN on other platforms.

There is an option to disable cross play, but it doesn't work. You just idle trying to find a game indefinitely (Eliminator) so you're just playing with people who just got the game, and those who have been playing on Xbox for years.

Game is fucking boring
I felt the same way about every Gran Turismo I played for more than half an hour.

Still, I think Forza Horizon 5 has a lot of mid content relative to previous entries. It was super fun for me only during Donut Media missions, good Event Labs, treasure hunts, and Hot Wheels DLC. I do enjoy the upgrades they have made to car handling but the locale and associated personalities are dull as dirt.

Agreed. Probably the worst fh till date. No progression and pretty bad sense of speed( especially for an arcade game). The graphics are good but the map itself isn't memorable at all. Also weird issues, for example, last time I played it the timer in some events was affected by the frame rate. If you had higher frame rate, the timer count was slower.

Also horizon events( the big set pieces one) suck especially when you realise it doesn't matter how good or badly you do. It's on rails.

Pair that with below average ai and lack of proper traffic, I am still flabbergasted with the praise this game gets.

I bought it. Looks incredible on PS5 Pro. it's Forza Horizon but probably the best game since 2. I figure I can play it while I listen to long podcasts. Also the amount of content in this game at this point is fucking insane. Nothing compares to it this gen.

yea I've never heard a person of Latin American descent talk like this, just throwing in random Spanish sentences and shit.
When I was in Amsterdam I heard people speaking Dutch and English to each other and completely switching between the two languages within sentences.

I reckon in the age of youtube this happens in many places around the world. I hear kids doing that in my country all the time. And you know who's brought up on Peppa Pig and who's been watching American shows, because of the accents.

It's fun for ~3 hours.

Yeah, I put in maybe 5 or so hours into FH5, same with FH4, and around 15 in FH3. Unfortunately it's just a boring format for me and once you've done a few speed captures, stunt jumps, and driven some of the super cars it becomes diminishing returns to the point it was best to move.

I think the game is great. But I was not enthused by the setting of Mexico. I would like to see the next one go to Japan or France or Argentina.

Locations Forza has done, US Midwest, Italy, Australia, Mexico and England. I really liked Australia and England.

Yeah my son who is American drops some Aussie stuff in to his speech fairly regularly due to youtubers he watches.

Sims are boring to most people. That's not apples to apples. GT7 in VR with a wheel/pedal setup though is easily one of the best experiences this generation.

The only racing games I can enjoy are kart racers. I played this on gamepass for 15 minutes and regretted it. I think if I had had to pay money for it I would have given it more of a chance, but with gamepass comes truth. This ain't my game.

Its a great arcade racer with some pretty good hospital records tracks in the soundtrack but its not as good as previous entries in my opinion. Still great fun though.

This basically is a kart racer.

I dont think there is a lot of difference between FH5 and MKW.

Aye i have a serious sim set up with special loadcell pedals inc a shifter. VR IS THE TITS.
nothing compares to gt7 sim set up.

But i do understand people don't like sim racers.
And rather play arcady games.

But tbh nothing really changed since forza horizon 3.

4 and 5 have no right to really be this big.
But glad other people like it 😂✌️

Yea, I grabbed all of FH4 on pc for $20 before it got delisted. I have no desire to get 5. I got one and it's all I need. ha!
They need to change things going forward.

Same but I didn't last for more than 5 hours in either of them. Openworld racing games are a total borefest for me in general, I tried plenty of them.

Yeah... I am not wasting a grant to make a game I dislike mildly amusing. If I was into sims then iRacing would be the only worthwhile choice.

I got a decent force feedback wheel and a stand on sale pretty cheap actually.
You don't have to go all out to have a great arcade like experience.

I know this is what they say, but let's look at reality. They released a Forza Horizon in 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2021. Then, nothing. And nobody is talking about Fh6 either. The fact that they ported this game to PS5 tells me it is going to be the FH game for a while.

It seems like the entirety of Playground Games, or close to it, is working on Fable and has been for a long ass time.

Nah, this is coming this year for Christmas or next.

I believe they held off because they didn't want to have to make it cross gen to the One so took that time to have a break (5 being the last cross gen release) and this will be the first release not held back by last gen so putting the polish on.

I honestly believe 5 is to get the hype for 6 for day 1 for PS5 owners.

They've announced several times they have two teams now between Forza & Fable.

So today the donkeydick servers of microsoft decided i was no longer signed into their ass servers. Unable to play my 100 dollar game i thought about getting rid of anything microsoft related forever. When some obscure reddit thread pointed out i had to sign in on my mobile phone in a incognito tab and it would work.

So ofc this would work. How the fuck are they still around??

anyway so after booting i was yeeted out of the game in 5 minutes looking at this gem of a screen.

Had to change my MS password. Sign in and sign out from my pc.

Had to fucking turn of the ps portal and relink it. And restart it and the ps5 pro multiple times.

So i could finally play my fucking game.
Never again 😂😂

I'm not surprised. Since Forza Motorsport 3 and Gears 4 on PC, I've always had to troubleshoot major issues with Microsoft games and most of the time it would lead back to account logging in being borked for whatever reason. Currently I'm unable to play Halo infinite on PC for the same reason. I have no idea how it keeps happening with their games.

Strange... never had that problem on my Xbox.

I think gears of war tactics is still fucking broken for me on pc. I swear their account system is the fucking worst

This was a well known issue when the game launched on Xbox and for years after. :pie_eyeroll:

Not sure where else to post this, but the latest update on PS5 has some pretty glaring issues. For one, the cloud animation stutters every few frames now (just the clouds, nothing else... it's a bit jarring), and also the lighting changes abruptly now instead of transitioning to different times of day smoothly. I'll just be driving along and BANG, totally different lighting like someone pressed a switch.

Anyone else seeing this at all? I tried both graphics modes, HDR on and off, and I can't seem to make it stop happening. The game was PERFECT before the update. I had no performance issues or any other glitches AT ALL. It was glorious. I can't believe it's busted now. :-(

I still prefer FH4 over FH5. Seasons in 4 were more interesting than any other gimmick 5 brought. The only downside is that the game is virtually unattainable after a few years due to licensing fees, so you buy it or you lose it.

I gotta say I'm a little... disappointed in several aspects of the game so far. Unskippable cutscenes (which is crazy, why?!), clunky interface (slow and suboptimal layout/sorting options in menus, overly busy map screen, constant bombardment of accolades/rewards/xp etc) and last but definitely one of the things that surprised me the most (in a negative way):
Most of the cars I've tried sounds really tinny! I've tried several that should have a little more oomph but even those sound like sewing machines.

I've only played a couple of hours so maybe some of the stuff is related to me being early in the game. The driving is fun though so I'll definitely keep at it despite my initial impressions.

Both 3 and 4 are much better than 5 for me. I think FH4 was the peak when it comes to stuff like the events and FH5 basically just copied them and somehow made them worse. I still go back and replay the race against the train, the dirt bikes, and the Halo event.

5 is worse then 3/4 in every way but car selection. 5 to me is vastly overrated and has some of the most unbearable characters I've ever seen.

I'm gonna drop a YouTube video from one of my favorite YouTubers that really sums up all of my issues nearly perfectly.

The best Forza Horizon game was part 3. Utterly stinks that it is delisted.
I think 3 is the best, but 4 is my favorite. The setting just hit.

This is what really sucks about racing games. We will never get a port of the better Horizon games because of all the licensing. It's also why we will never get the old Gran Truism games on PS5 unless they unlock emulation like Xbox did where you can just put your discs in.

You people had years to talk about 3 & 4 being better than 5 but all of a sudden every Xbox game to PS5 thread is the place to complain about the games 😂.

Hard disagree as I think FH4 has a better car selection. I would also say that improved tire traction, better controlling rear-wheel drive, and good Eventlab tracks are a fantastic addition to FH5. The Hot Wheels DLC is also better in FH5 than FH3. I do think that the showcase events in FH5 are rubbish in comparison to FH4. I also think the map in FH5 is bad compared to both.

As a more casual racing fan, the biggest problem with FH4 for me is the uninteresting map layout. FH5 map is a huge improvement, but the series tropes are really long in the tooth.

FH5 has really solid gameplay, but the map is kinda boring. The lack of any real difference in the seasons (due to the locale) doesn't help either. Still tho, it has no real competition even when the series is at its worst. And it's nice to know I still have a place to play the series (going forward) when I get rid of my series x. Hopefully FH6 has more extreme weather changes for seasons.

FH4 has some fantastic roads around the perimeter of the map and some great race layouts in-between. FH5 has a single resort area and stadium that are mildly amusing with the rest being landmarks or terrain that are best avoided.

Disagreed. FH4 layouts were as dull as FH2 (the even number curse of the series). FH5 is probably my least favorite odd number entry, but that has a lot more to do with the formula being incredibly stale.

I don't know how you can race through Mortimer Gardens or Mudkickers Adventure Park and call it boring. I can't even recollect a race location in FH5 to save my life.

First you'd race those locations, try to find the appropriate words to describe the boredom, and then call them as such.
