Nintendo E3 2012 Conference Thread

I figured. Hopefully Nintendo money hatted Bioshock as well.

This is where Nintendo refusing to discuss games outside launch hurts them in my opinion. They could have easily sizzle reeled upto E3 2013 and shown that yes the support is indeed there and it would have contented people better

And Edge wasn't kidding. The textures on the character models of the thugs are awful.

It's a good thing a lot of us already own this game.

No, I'm pretty sure Ken Levine was interviewed but he has said it's not coming to the Wii U before.

Yeah I remember them saying they had no plans for a Wii U version, but after he said that the game got delayed :P

I expect from the 3DS conference:

For sure more on:

Paper Mario
NSMB 2
Luigi's Mansion 2
Kingdom Hearts 3D
FF Theathrythm
Castlevania Mirror or Truth
Epic Mickey 3DS

Hard news/new footage for:

Animal Crossing 3DS
New Harvest Moon

Maybe:

Fire Emblem 3DS in NA
Monster Hunter 3G in NA
Project X Zone in NA
Etrian Odyssey 4
Shin Megami Tensei 4

I doubt there will be any surprises beyond this list...but they are just my predictions.

what the fuk is Nintendo doing with all their money lying around?

They could spend on the hardware and sell it a less profit at launch, or moneyhat them to optimize the game better?

I mean, a last gen game looking worse on a next gen system?

Don't forget there's a few factors to take in notice, here.

New hardware/engine optimization for the new hardware/this is likely beta stuff/etc.

If the textures really do load completely after a while (it IS made with the Unreal Engine, after all), then it should be just fine.

Perhaps my biggest problem with Nintendo's conference and the Wii U in general is that nothing seemed "next gen" to me. I'm talking graphics, features, games, UI, everything. None of it excited me or made me think "I've never seen something like this before".

For everyone else was there any part of the conference or the Wii U that seems "next gen" to you? I don't really know how to define "next gen" but the wii reveal definitely made me excited for the possibility of new ways to play games.

Bad news flowing in at an alarming rate.

Not really used to that with Nintendo hardware. I, as a Nintendo fan, think I'll defintely skip launch, or even the console overall. I am not impressed by the concept, it doesn't matter what the price and launch dates will be. I was hyped by you, WiiU but you have left and goes on leaving a bad taste in a my mouth. I hope I can erase you from my memory as quickly as possible.

Great start with Pikmin 3. I thought that Nintendo will knock it out the park, than the rest of the conference happened.

I have a couple of questions.
Any online details soon?
Any price and release date (holiday is a broad date)?
Good Lord Nintendo.

You just had to show The new Retro game, some high profile 3rd party exclusive, and perhaps a 3D Mario/Zelda game, and you would've won E3. It was so simple!

What a failure.
It's not easy at all bro. Third party exclusive are almost dead. I also reckon that Nintendo developers are having a harder longer time developing and games for an HD console.

Any the hardware news isn't close to bad. Two GamePads are now possible, the Pro Controller is awesome, both controllers are comfortable and include things you'd expect ignored like clicky sticks. The Wii U itself is exactly as powerful as we'd been predicting these past few months, but a few shoddy ports are trying to undermine that.

And it's "might", but I think it has good chances.

I mean, both colors are equally featured on the site and we saw the black Wii U in promo videos and such.

Black is actually MORE featured on the site. Only color on main page, leading color on Wii U page, default on color switcher, main color in controller video, only color above tech specs, which is right next to the launch "date." They are totally leading with Black here. If they were gonna restrict to ANY color at launch, it'd be black.

And that color switcher there, that's not just a "lol colors" thing, that is showing products that you can buy. "Have a look, make a choice." It would be astonishingly idiotic if they ended up only selling one of them.

We should know better than to trust a single word spouted by an E3 showfloor representative, though.

Not that graphics are the be all end all but was there a single graphics showcase title shown during Nintendo's conference? Trine 2 looked good but it wasn't given much time. I can't remember anything else that looked graphically impressive.

only if it had analog triggers; I really would like to know how racers are going to be played on the system; I can only ask:

Why?

Unlike last year there was no graphics showcase.

Right analog stick would workwell ala burn out

I agree however, I got that same feeling with 3DS as well. I think in large part it has to do with Nintendo's strategy. They designed and created games very systematicallly. Their strategy is very calculated going after 4 major divisions in gaming:

1. Non-gamers- With the return of Wii Fit, Nintendoland, Just Dance, Sing and even NSMBU. They are obviously trying to capture the non/lapsed gamers that sparked their huge success with Wii/DS by offering software to try and appeal to them. Other simply features such as Youtube, the universal remote and the streaming function are designed to try and further implant itself in the living room so that the Wii U doesn't get dusty and sits firmly in the living room.

2. Social Gamers- The Miiverse, tablet controller and stronger focus on downloadable titles it is obvious they are trying to integrate and capture the iOS/Android/Facebook gamers.

3. Nintendo gamers- Pikmin 3, NSMBU, P-100 and I suppose Nintendoland are all obvious attempts at appeasing their large and loyal fanbase.

4. "Hardcore" Gamers- Dual analog, lots of buttons, HD graphics and improved online system seem like obvious attempts to try and go after the 360/PS3 fanbase as well as the constant communication and trying to appease towards 3rd party developers such as Ubisoft with multiplatform titles. The one year headstart is a huge benefit for Nintendo that they didn't have with the Wii.

Conceptually I see what they are attempting to do and it could be a perfect storm. This is by far the most calculated Nintendo has been with it's system but with it standing in the middle of these four it could just as easily fall apart due to shortcomings:

1.- Many analysts say that it was all just a fad and perhaps they have all moved to social gaming. The lack of relative new experiences that capture the imagination in quite the same way as the original Wii may not be able to capture this audience again. The 3DS has provided mixed response so far whether the audience is truly there or not. Nintendoland will be proving grounds whether the audience will take up to these new controls.

2.- These are gamers out of convenience(their FB and Smartphones were already there) and Nintendo has never really captured this audience before. On top of that their online and digital approach has yet to be fully explained. They really need a strong focus on exclusive digital titles to go after this audience and encourage iOS/Android/Facebook developers to port where they can or better develop exclusive content.

3.- This crowd is obviously the least to worry about simply because they have stood by Nintendo so long. However, with the lack of major Nintendo games such as Metroid, 3D Mario, Retro game, Zelda, SSB, etc. shown could wane interest and discourage those to jump in at launch. Not too mention many felt burned by the Wii and Nintendo's change of focus.

4.- The fact that not many major 3rd party developers have offered serious support outside of Ubisoft is troublesome. Once again online system hasn't been fully detailed and there is a large possibility that Nintendo will once again be underpowered to handle PS4/Xbox 720 titles. Nintendo essentially has the first year to prove that hardcore 3rd party titles are worth investing on Wii U before the other next gen consoles hit or they will land themselves right back where they were with the Wii.

I'll admit that I was slightly disappointed that the conference did match a dream I had, but seeing as that dream involved Reggie and Iwata coming on stage in tribal dress with giant Mii mask and WiiU Gamepads covering their groins, chanting "Games for the Game God" while Matt Casablanca was dragged on to the stage for a sacrifice screaming with the stream cutting out as he is being lowered into a pit, I'm not surprised.

feels almost like Nintendo deliberately downplayed their first party stuff to give 3rd parties more space. When they bring heads of 3rd party companies up and basically give their stage away for 5 minutes, it always feels odd.

Is anyone else expecting a Wii U reveal to be tacked on to the end of the 3DS conference later, perhaps as a response to the wave of negativity their press conference received or perhaps planned.

Did anyone else feel the 3DS bit during the conference was tacked on and seemed very last minute or was it just me?
