Listened to the Day 1 podcast and meh. I don't understand how Jaffe (I think?) can say that games are all about mechanics and then praise every game that looks so derivative like Splinter Cell and Tomb Raider

The argument made better sense in context as a reaction to Hipster douchebag's moaning about the current state of the games industry, and the martyrdom of indie developers in furthering games as art. Seemed more of an idealogical point than one he would apply to every game.
And what is Jaffe without his contradictions.

Even when the game's have been terrible and things didn't pan out, Tony Hawk has invested himself heavily into that franchise. I have a lot of respect for him for that.
I love Pachter. He says the most ridiculous shit constantly. I certainly couldn't handle him all of the time but the guest appearances are great.
If you think about even the bad games in the terms of the pitch he got for them they probably sounded pretty good and that they would be doing cool things. If RIDE had actually worked it might have been pretty awesome. It's also a series that's still had more hits than misses. Everything up to THUG was solid. THUG2 was garbage, American Wasteland and Project 8 were okay, but suffered from being early generation. The game after that... well, I played skate like everyone else so I don't know. RIDE was mostly a tech failure.
Each ep is like 3 hours 30 min long.

it does seem each day's podcast gets 1 hr longer than the last. i think it's like 4 hrs for the most recent one.
there is like a ~30min long 'day X' summary each day of the show.
Gonna be a lot of cool stuff.

I like Pachter as much as the next guy but him constantly talking about GAF hating on him was embarrassing.
Hahah I thought that was great. He's just out of touch about what's hip in that developer/journalist crowd. It was making everyone cringe so badly, it was awesome.
I would have had the same reaction if I were there but it was really entertaining to listen to.
EDIT: Currently catching up on the Day 1 E3 podcast. I will have them all knocked out after this one. They have been really, really good this year. The guests seem way more comfortable with the idea of opening up on a live podcast this year.

Michael Pachter knew about 38 Studios closing ahead of time but told NO ONE.
Why do people feel sorry for Pachter? He puts himself out there by making "controversial" predictions and having a public persona. I have no sympathy for him. If you can't stand the heat, go back to being a financial analyst and stop being a "personality". Guess what, you're going to get feedback, and some of it will be negative.
