PS Vita general advice thread, part 3 | Veni, vidi, Vita

A few responses to some of the comments I read:

Sly Vita had really sharp, beautiful visuals in gameplay, but the cutscenes looked off, with no cel-shading. I got the impression it was video, and not being rendered in game, because, despite wearing the Robin Hood outfit, it suddenly defaulted to Sly's standard outfit when the cutscene ended.

As for PS One emulation, the guy said that the demo units had some features lcked, such as adjusting the aspect ratio, and button/stick mapping, but when it's finally released we'll be able to adjust that stuff. Tomb Raider felt stiff, but FFVII looked and played great.

i think they know. wasn't last E3 it was just videos. they tried this year with demos and look how that turned out.

In terms of live demos last year, we had:

PS3:
Uncharted 3
Resistance 3
NBA 2K12
Deadmund's Quest

Vita:
Uncharted: Golden Abyss
Ruin
Modnation: Racers
Street Fighter x Tekken

This year, we had

PS3:
Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale
Assassin's Creed III
Far Cry 3
Wonderbook
God of War 3
The Last of Us

Were we thinking this wouldn't be the case? I assumed from the beginning that we wouldn't have to re-purchase, just like PSP.

Some people had taken Sony not explicitly saying "you won't have to pay again" to mean "lol suckers are paying again".

Not sure why as you didn't with PSP or Minis. I think it might stem from people who bought stuff for a tablet or something needing to buy it again.

someone mentioned it around here, or one of the other vita threads... just thought id post it to kill the fud

Hmm... Joystiq said Sony confirmed the opposite of this:

ign said:
Every game currently available in the PSone Classics catalog will be available for play on Vita with no exceptions.

Unless they just mean "someday" 'cause joystiq said they were going to be released in waves, not all at once like that suggests.

I think he was mentioning it for the fact that all the games will be available for DL to the Vita. It was speculated earlier that Vita PSone Classics would have their own release schedule, kind of like they've done with PSP games so far. Hopefully this is true rather than the Joystiq article. I mean, PSone emulation has been done time and time again by Sony now. You think they'd have that stuff locked down. I doubt they'll need to "release them in waves" to quality check them.

Ahh okay.

So, last night I placed an order for Gravity Rush on Sony's online store with express shipping.

https://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/StoreSearch?storeId=10151&langId=-1&catalogId=&in_dim_search=&Ntk=&Ntx=&Nrt=&Nrr=&Nrk=&Nrm=&keyword=gravity+rush

When going through the checkout process, the order claimed the game would ship 6/7.

I called customer service and asked them if this was true, and they said yes. It would ship 6/7 and arrive with express shipping 6/9.

Ultimately, the idea of spending an additional $15 just for shipping made me cancel the order (total was $59.74).

Also, I work near a Sony Store, so I figured if Sony was selling it online, then their store's surely would too. If anyone was going to break street date, they might as well.

Well, I went down to the store during my lunch break and explained the situation to about four employees who were listening. One of them went to speak with a manager somewhere, came back once and said he was looking into it. I said I'd stick around and see what he says. At this point, I'm thinking, sure bet. A few minute later he comes back and said "no" again.

So, basically, you have Sony's online store selling Gravity Rush today, and from a Twitter search last night I found someone who bought the game at Sony's flagship store in Manhattan.

No Gravity Rush for me today :(

dude Gravity Rush R1 has been out here in our area since a few days ago

You're outside the U.S., right?

Seems to be available outside the U.S. in a lot of places right now.

In hindsight, I wish I kept the order from last night. The extra $ would have been an acceptable extra price to have the game early.

No matter how they release the individual PSOne Classic titles, they'll each have to go through a QA check - that's almost certain. Even if you have the hardware abstraction layer nailed down in the common emulation code, you'll still be faced with doing an actual implementation on the particular Vita hardware underneath opening up for all kinds of bugs, timing issues, strange behaviours only occuring in some games and not others.

That said, it can only get easier for Sony over time.

For the Canadians about: Gamestop still doesn't have any of the fall titles up for preorder except for Assassin's Creed: Liberation. My friend says they might be added this Saturday.

No. And it's called Warriors Lair now. Don't ask us why.

I've been rather annoyed at not hearing anything else regarding this game as it was one of the titles I was hoping to pick up at launch when news of the Vita was first announced.

Has anyone heard anything about it at all recently?

I hope the next thing we hear is not "Sorry, it was canned"

So according to the PS Blogcast:

Gravity Rush,
MGS Collection
Pulsar (AR Game)

:)

Grrrrrrrreat, PulzAR coming out next tuesday too!

Looking forward to and getting all of those!

I went ahead and picked up a PS Vita this afternoon. I knew I wanted one, but I couldn't decide on when I should pick it up. I decided to wait until E3, hoping much like the Nintendo 3DS, that Sony would have a bunch of game announcements or maybe even a price cut. However, it didn't really end up like that. But after reading some impressions about the games on the show floor and reading up on the upcoming games, I couldn't help but feel excited about getting one.

So I went ahead and bought the System, a 16GB memory card, and MLB The Show. While The Show may not seem as exciting as some of the other games out for the system, I really love the thought of being able to play my Franchise mode on the go by uploading my save to the cloud. It also helps that the game looks almost identical to the PS3 version.

I've also been following Gravity Rush for some time and it was a main reason for me wanting to pick up a Vita this week. I downloaded the demo and the game played just like how I'd hope. So I put money down on a pre-order (wanted the dlc) and I can't wait until Tuesday to pick it up.

Hey Gaf I've got a "Near" question for you
Anyone use the "Like" button and the comments on the Friends Activity Log? Sometimes I leave a Like and a comment but I don't recieve back any comment. Does the system advice you when you recieve a comment? Have you ever experienced or recieved a like?

Near is a great idea but it has been promoted so badly... (why this thing doesn't surprise me at all???)

It doesn't alert you, which is a bad thing because they'll never know unless they check.

Yeah I've left a couple of likes and comments. It should at least alert you if somebody does that. Maybe not a notification on the main vita bubble but maybe in near or something? I dont know somewhere.
