PS Vita general advice thread, part 3 | Veni, vidi, Vita

Not open for further replies.
If you live in NYC, you can pick this game up (along with Gravity Rush) right now.

Still not sure what the rules are when it comes to posting the locations. It's one of those mom and pop stores, but one of the well known ones. If anything, feel free to PM me.

Won't have a chance to really get into it since I'm headed back out but I'll see if I can take a few screenshots before leaving.

boo :( Tuesday is so far away

Echoing what a few have mentioned:

Vita needs playlist support in it's music player. On my PS3 I have a playlist for every game I use custom soundtracks with and it's head scratching as to why the Vita didn't launch with such a basic fundamental for MP3 playback.

#1 thing I hate about this thing besides the clunky content management/store is that I always end up deciding to get the physical version. Wish there'd be more sales on the PS Store. Would convince me to go the dd route much faster.

yeah I feel you on that, I like being able to just navigate to the game and play but physical due to building up a library

yep for US.

Gravity Rush out Tuesday I think and yeah sometime in June supposedly.

Aiight, will try to rush the final P3P boss for the nth time. Got my ass smoked last few times.

I don't care. I always shoot for the DD version. Once you have lost 3 cartridges all at once, you'll go DD. 8^/

In Montezuma Blitz, is there any down side to just hitting the hint button over and over again to have it tell you what moves to make?? I didn't know if let you do that as many times as you wanted. That kinda cheapens the game a lot.

I think I just want an overhaul of the store first. It's a mess right now.

The PS Game Store needs a revamp on both PS3 and Vita.

On PS3, Video Unlimited needs to be simplified just a little more to replace PS Video Store. Ideally, Vita should follow the same look.

IMHO, the Vita music player should just be subsumed by Music Unlimited. Both can multitask with games anyway. MU has playlist support, but it's not wired to the "PS Button" control panel.

lol that's what I do and usually get higher scores then if I don't cheat. With the totems though I can usually do pretty good. My highest score is 400k+ some seem to get that without any totems though.

EDIT: As for trophies, they separated the 2 games. 46 trophies each.

Oddly enough, I ended up grabbing the PS3 version of this today. I needed my Peace Walker in the package. The PS3 version is hard to find now. At least in Toronto.

My highest is only 62k or so but that was before finding out that you can just cheat your way through. It's so strange that they let you use the hint button an unlimited number of times. You can seriously just keep pressing it over and over again with one finger while making the moves with your other finger.

How many hours do you have into P3P?

Oh yes, MGS2 and 3 having trophies. I didnt even think about that. Hilarious that even MGS4 doesnt have them.

Are they fun trophies? For sneaking the whole game etc or just story related? No specific spoilers please, just want to know whether they are the fun kind or not.

I thought this little tidbit of information would be appreciated here, particularly for those saying/thinking the Vita is doomed. I downloaded a sample issue of Edge magazine (October 2011) and it appears to be the first issue post 3DS price drop. As of the price drop the 3DS had sold "just 710,000 units...worldwide". This really put it into perspective for me with how the Vita is doing right now, IIRC Kaz announced this month that the Vita has sold 1.8 million units. It is doing far and away better than the 3DS with roughly a month or two less on the market.

I'm not saying that the Vita is selling well but at the very least the situation is nowhere near as dire as people seem to think it is. Perhaps we are just on track for a PSP style life cycle where it sells incredibly well but that success is overlooked because Nintendo does better. I'm not so sure Vita will hit the 10 million that Sony forecasts for this year but with a few price drops for the memory cards and the right games coming out it can do well at the current price.

I just thought that the 3DS comparison had been overlooked with many people (not necessarily in this thread) saying that the Vita is doing worse than the 3DS was.

Side note: Disgaea 3 should arrive tomorrow, any tips for someone new to Disgaea and SRPGs in general?

Any bundles incoming except for the fifa/resistance/ac 3: liberation ones?

What's the minimum size memory card that is recommended? Apparently 4GB is a little small due to the installs/sizes of some games save games, even when only buying carts?

I went 32Gb and am glad I did. I think 16Gb is fine too if you want to go DD. 8Gb is probably bare minimum (requires shuffling).

My 32Gb is filled with 20+ Music Unlimited songs, 9 TV episodes (Heroes), 1 full-length movie, 1 SI swimsuit video, 2800+ photos, 7 apps, 4 demoes, and about 11 Vita and PSP games. And I still have space left for more downloads.

For the trophies..someone posted them up in the MGS HD vita thread and said they were the same as the console versions. To answer your question, yes, there's a trophy for finishing the game without killing anyone :)

I took some screenshots of MGS 2 and posted them on the OT if you want to take a look at them. I would post them here as well but I don't want to continue posting the same thing in 2 threads lol, even though this thread gets bumped up more often.

I did take a video of MGS 2 if you want to see it in motion:

Get ready to put in 100+ hours MINIMUM, lol. That is, if you really do enjoy it. There is a TON of things to do post game. You may be overwhelmed at first because of all the mechanics they teach you but it's easy enough to understand. Get ready to level your characters to 9999 and deal 1 mil + damage! Fun times lol.

I would say 8 gig is minimum. That's what I have and I've downloaded SSD, Mutant Blobs Attack, Motorstorm RC (with 2 DLC packs), DJ Max Portable 3, PvZ and Treasures of Montezuma Blitz and I have 4.7 gigs left. DJ max is taking up the most space with about 1.5 gigs but I'll probably delete that eventually to make room for other games. I will eventually upgrade but I see no reason to do so yet. If you have the money to go higher than 8 gigs (and because you know you'll be purchasing a few PSP/PSN games) by all means, do so. If you have an 8 gig, you'll be deleting things to make room for new things so if you can deal with that, 8 is definitely fine.

3DS got a price cut AND a Dragon Quest game. Certainly helped the system in Japan.

Then it got some heavy hitters with a 3D Mario and a Mario Kart game.

What will move Vitas?

Probably similar formula. Lower price point, and more compelling contents. Plus aggressive marketing.

They will need to watch out for cheap 7" tablet core gaming, and 3DS.

Hustle Kings is a great pool game but it sure is getting annoying. I'm at like 62% in the career mode now. It's basically come to the point where you either make a shot on your break so you have a chance to go on a streak, or you lose.

And it's called Hustle Kings for a reason. You build up money which you have to use to enter tournaments or bet against players. So if you don't make a shot on your break, you basically have to start over and pay another fee. Not to mention the fact that you're just waiting while the computer takes a ton of shots over and over again. Great core gameplay, annoying single player campaign.

I had to get 16GB as the 32 were not available in the UK at launch, I would say that is the minimum if you are thinking of going digital, I have already filled mine so will be getting a 32GB for Vita and the 16 for PSP games.

If you are going for cartridges I would go for 8GB at least as there will always be some downloadable stuff for those games and you might want some space for music and stuff too.

It is a shame that they aren't cheap enough to make the 32GB a no brainer, it would benefit Sony as they might sell more digital copies.

There have to be games on the way for the Vita that will help move it. As far as first party games go Sony is definitely not as strong as Nintendo but who knows what the next game as big as a Monster Hunter is? They could be cooking up a 3rd party exclusive deal or developing a 1st party game that blows up.

It is so incredibly hard to tell what games will do well and which won't. Add to the fact that we only know the line up for the next six months and it becomes almost impossible.

Before Monster Hunter on PSP it was a middling franchise and I'm not sure anybody would have predicted that franchise would sell like it did. Maybe Sony won't get a lifeline like that with the Vita or maybe Sony will get lucky with a blockbuster game that moves Vitas. The point is we don't know what goes on behind closed doors, we can only choose to be optimistic or pessimistic. Heck, maybe the Vita will get an exclusive Monster Hunter game again.

Thanks, it is from LoveFilm so assuming I like it I'll probably keep it for a couple of weeks and then buy it.

Not quite true. The 3DS sold 710,000 units during the first fiscal quarter of 2011 (April-May-June). But it had sold 3,610,000 units during the previous quarter (Jan-Feb-March).

Some MGS HD Vita screens i took:

Sorry for the quality. iPad 2 is my only form of recording lol.

I agree with this. Go big! I have many games and a few apps installed with 22GB remaining. If you can't afford it have no worries. You can backup all software and saves to your PC with the content manager. Sony really made it easy to go pure digital this time around.

Could you guys linke me interviews with Gravity Daze creator (Project Siren) !?
I wanna know if he is gonna do GD 2 or new IPs.
EDIT: Nevermind, I found out through this interview that he doing possibly a new IP, focusing on "fear", I can't wait :0.

According to the save files, around 130 hours now. lol.

Holy jeez.. I'm only on a little over 10. It's the perfect game to have as a dd title though, because it suits itself to well to the "pick up and play for 10 minutes or 10 hours" mentality. Never played a Persona game before this, now I'm pumped for P4G.

If I ever seem to beat this one, that is. :p

Jet Set Radio. Vita. That's all you need to know. Want that game? Get it on the Vita. SOOOOO. HOOOOOT.

Also played Project Diva f and PS1 Classics at E3. I couldn't at all figure out how to change the settings for the PS1 games, so that's a question I still have. Seemed to, you know, work well though. Pretty much like expected.

Does JSR run smooth? I'll go with Vita as long as it's not sub-native res or under 60fps. Not to sound demanding or anything, but it is a Dreamcast game.

I've never played it but always wanted to. What's the ETA?

Is Gravity Rush hitting PSN on Tuesday as well? I'll be in China and would like to download it for my flight home.

I pre-ordered Gravity Rush from Newegg when it was $29.99. Does Newegg get the little pre-order bonuses that you get from Gamestop and what-not?

Best Buy in Canada is currently selling a Vita and Resistance: Burning Skies for $249.99.

Is it a good time to jump on the Vita train now?

Yeah,it's my first Persona game too. I am set to get P4 regardless of whether I complete P3P.

I like the interactions with the NPCs. I played it too conservatively. Should be more promiscuous coz you open up more social links. 8^D

I agree it's a great on-the-go game. Couldn't be happier. There're lotsa grinding/level-up to do, but you can be aggressive and complete as many floors as possible in one session.

So does one romance get mad if you pursue other romances? That's what's "kept me faithful" so far - I don't wanna screw anything up.

Also: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002I0H09Y/?tag=neogaf0e-20

$49.99?! WTF

I think they are only jealous after the relationships hit level 5. I checked the net, there are ways to repair a relationship. I haven't tried yet. Right now, I'm missing out on 2 relationships completely. 8^(

Not a big deal since the later links with new folks seem to be stronger. Unfortunately, I did miss out on an important one. Some of the later social links require you to attain a minimum level for an older link.
