Golden Abyss is an amazing game. I'm on Ch. 30 on my hard run. I've been using the $0.99 DLC treasure map to get all the treasures and I love how you actually feel like an explorer.

Probably my third favorite game this year behind ME3 and Kid Icarus.

Isn't that killing the feeling of being an explorer?

I liked Golden Abyss a lot until I started going for the platinum. The first time I played through it was on Hard, and it felt like the right difficulty for me. I tried it on Crushing and it was way more frustrating than fun. This was all pre-patch.

The bug where it reset your stats over and over again made me furious while I tried to get some of the trophies. I just got to a point where I realized it was pointless to keep trophy hunting and sold it. Good game, though.

Yeah, the rubbing parts are atrocious, made worse by how OCD Nathan Drake apparently is about getting every speck of dirt off or a 100% complete rubbing. Some bits of melee also force the touchscreen stuff. I'm not sure if the log balancing/bamboo slicing/etc. are doable with buttons, but they're almost as tiresome. It's all just distracting Nintendo DS launch game crap that's really unnecessary.

I never liked the treasure hunting/collectibles in Uncharted games, either, so the new emphasis on them is a definite turnoff for me, as well. =\

GA was such a total disappointment. Even putting aside the touch screen gimmicks, motion control balancing, treasure collecting and touch QTEs, it started so amazingly slow and only really got good about halfway through. Then once you've finished and changed your mind about it, you play the crushing run and hate it because it's so incredibly unbalanced (though I guess they've patched that?). Just bleh.

I'd probably rate the series:
U2 > U1 > U3 > U:GA

Log balancing does not use touch screen. ^_^ It's motion sensing. I dislike it. At first, I couldn't get motion aiming too, mainly because I was lying down. Had to sit up to learn motion aiming and log balancing before I lie down again. I like the photo mini-quest too.

I agree touch screen melee and bamboo slicing weren't great. I like touchscreen jigsaw puzzles. It's intuitive. The charcoal rubbing is pretty straightforward, so I don't really hate it since it gives me more background about the settings.

I don't mind touch screen traversing/platforming because it's more convenient to control Nate that way, while lying sideways. 8^P

Treasure collection in Golden Abyss is more refined than U1 - U3. Like someone said above, there is an explore, collect and trade feel to it. I didn't bother with treasure collection in the PS3 versions at all.

IMHO, U:GA focuses less on shooting, but more on story development and the side activities. I took my time to go through it slowly, and enjoyed it. If one expects "explosive action" from the get go, then he or she will likely be disappointed. The shooting only gets more intense later in the game.

The only thing I really hate about the game is the final boss. ^_^

any news what PSN games are coming out this week? i canceled gravity rush because i have too many other games to play but PSN game are always welcomed lol

Generally yes, but in this case it seems several retailers are offering the Gravity Rush content (Gamestop and Amazon for sure). But if SCEE is giving it to PSN buyers, I'm sure we'll get it here too so no worries.
Ah ok, i thought that the DLC was only for pre-ordering the physical copy :)

There are minimal of log balancing and bamboo slicing throughout the game from what i can remember. Most of the bamboo slicing stuff is to find treasures, but that is optional. If you do melee attacks, touch screen is usually required indeed. You also have some events like opening a door or lifiting someone up that requires a few sweeps over the screen (for this i prefer the touch screen actually instead of mashing a button). So there are some touch elements in the whole game, but overall i'd say that you can play much more with the standard controlers in comparison. At least the rubbing parts make sense and doesnt just feel tacked on (since in real life you would have to do rubbing too in those situations). But if one prefer it is another question of course :)

I actually loved Golden Abyss. The only annoying parts to me were the log balancing and the mandatory touchscreen melee stuff. Those were very dumb and shouldn't have been in there. I like all of the other touchscreen stuff though, like the charcoal rubbings, cleaning artifacts, and putting together pieces of a torn document. Story was very fun, voice acting was great, graphics were incredible (brought down only by the sub-native res and less production values in the cutscenes). I think I may end up playing it again soon, actually.

In terms of where I'd rank them, it would be U2>U3>>U1=GA. Yes, it's tied for last place, but I love the series so it's by no means bad.

The only thing I dislike about the Golden Abyss is the aiming and the stupid log balancing

I like the rubbings. Feels like I'm the only one that did

Is it just me or is it kind of lame that we miss out on this stuff by buying the game directly from Sony on PSN? If anything we should be getting the free DLC...

PSN buyers will get the DLC if they purchase it 1 week after launch.

My screen gets super smudged after the rubbings so I hate that, but for the most part I think they're fine. Much worse things in the game(but it's still fun.)

I played through Golden Abyss last week and thought it was as good as the console games. I'd go as far and say GA had the best combat scenarios in all the games, but the final boss was way to easy.

and he has been since March :(

Question: I tried using Remote Play using an internet connection but it asked me to turn on ps3 first and choose Remote Play there. Is there no way to Play my PSone games on my vita without first turning on my ps3 or am I missing something?

Have you ever done it before? Perhaps you have to link them first? It's been a while since I tried mine.

I definitely feel that GA was at the very least on par with the console Uncharted games (Though, I have only played UC1 and UC2). I liked the characters, the story developed nicely, it had good voice acting, ect. I don't agree about it having the best combat scenarios, though.

"Update: As many people asked in the comments, we’d like to clarify that this DLC will be available, at no extra cost, to those people who purchase the game from PlayStation Store for a limited time after launch."

PS Euro Blog

Ok thanks. I won't say good for them because thats what they should be doing. In fact to entice DD purchases it should always be included.

Even better than UC2?

I was playng through UC2 all weekend long, start to finish... and I realize how much GA feels like a simple demo with touch controls by comparison. Needed more set pieces like Among Thieve's the train top fight, chopper rooftop battle, and Shambala chaos. The only original thing about GA I remember was the canoe.

Anyways, a month later and my Vita will still not let me activate video / music under "system activation" (keep getting error E-80104207) despite using my PS3 PSN log in. Not sure what to do at this point, Sony's customer service is no help.

Agreed. I should have had to spend 25 minutes pouring over blog posts to determine this. It should be standard boilerplate for their P.R. from now on. It's still early in the system's lifespan, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now. :)

I'd say not as good as UC2 but combat was far better in GA than I experienced in UC3. It does stand up there with the console experiences for me as well.

I've yet to play UC3, but if combat in GA is better, I think I'll permanently pass that title. Looking forward to a sequel to GA, I hope they add competent online multiplayer.

U3 combat can be harsh. In some places, it is more impressive than U2. In other places, the rough edges show.

IMHO, GA combat is more tame compared to the home console series.

Did you try hard reset ? My friend had a lot of problem signing in to PS Store until he reset his unit.

I hope they add competent online multiplayer.

They could easily patch that and release as DLC (would probably paid DLC to be honest), just a couple of modes would suffice (deathmatch, CTF, co op horde mode). IIRC, Killzone Liberation and one of the Syphon Filters got multiplayer DLC on the PSP.

Honestly don't get the Resistance hate maybe it's because the last FPS I played all the way through was Modern Warfare 2? I'm just impressed it runs this well on a portable and has solid multiplayer.

dat gr spoiler

It's not really a spoiler if you've paid attention to the media released. But yeah, the OT has a bunch of info that maybe many who'd rather not be spoiled shouldn't read.

Bought a Vita this weekend, finally!

It really is an amazing little thing, Much better then I anticipated!

Playing Resistance right now. The game is way better then everyone gives it credit for.

Add me on PSN. neoJABES
